This restaurant has, what I call the Genius factor. It is NOT for the occasional or regular traveler seeking for some old fancy tacos walking thru some streets of Mexico, or the self proclaimed foodie that sips champagne wanting to pay less than a glass of beer in the UK. This one holds something very valuable, the improvisation, the fearless effort to go beyond what we expect to find in a fancy restaurant. No table cloths but instead some good heavy wood tables from local carpentiers. No French or Italian wines in the wine pairing, but instead you will have a mezcal cocktail made by their bartender, a young local guy that just won a worldwide famous brand rum competition , artisan beer, Baja wine and some ancient mayan cacao beverage. For dinner: Corn, the pillar of the Mexican food, of the Mexican culture. I saw some reviews talking about how repetitive or lack of flavor the courses were? Please, if you do not get into the culture of the place you are visiting, Do not eat at their famous places, they will give you local ingredients, maybe the best they could find. It is like going to Morocco hating olives and expecting not to find them in their dishes. Well, Kuuks menu was incredible, spotless, inventive, creative but without loosing their essence and ancient Mexican roots. First we had the thin slices of tomato wafers, then the spinach tree courses, incredible. Then the soil cooked corn and the lobster ceviche inside a coconut bubble, My God, this one blowed our mind completley. After all this we had the venison with pepper, very good one considering this venison grows in the mayan jungle in a controlled environment. Then the desserts, presented by their lovely and young pastry chef. A corn bread mixed with chocolate milk and cocoa with a ginger ice cream and a basket of sweets. Let me finish telling that every single dish was presented in perfect English, plus we heard two near tables being explained in French, with the compete mayan translations of the ingredient names. With very trained staff, manager, sommelier, and chefs getting in and out to tables in need. Maybe more than 20 in total for serving just 10 to 12 tables. Great service, great experience. Plus, the total check for 2 tasting menus with wine pairing: US$260 inclusion taxes and service. This dinner with this level, at any other place will cost at least $400 . No kidding this place its worth, not only the visit, but a whole trip to Yucatan just to dine there.

Easily one of the best meals we've ever experienced and far superior to any high end restaurant we've been to in Mexico City. You could literally fly down to Merida, stay the night and eat here for the price you pay for dinner for two in Pujol - and you would be far happier for it! We had the tasting menu and were treated to such an incredible experience. Beautiful food, expertly crafted with flavours that just have to be experienced to be believed. The waiter was just perfect - really helped us set up the meal with the wine guide and even treated us at the end by introducing us to the kitchen team and showing us around. Made the meal even more special.

first time visiting yucatan and this place was our best part of the trip (plus the mayan ruins of course and diving in cenote samula). We took the tasting menu with wine pairing and it was fabulous, beautifully presented and with perfectly balanced flavors. The staff was very friendly and explained all the dishes to us, gave us a little tour of the restaurant, wine cellar and laboratory (WOW). We paid $160 for the menu, wines and gratuity, that i think it is a very low and fair price for the experience considering that this is one of the best restaurants we have been too. Will recommend for sure.

My wife and I were treated to the tasting menu in this lovely old building. The atmosphere on arrival was sterile and it didn’t improve with empty echoing rooms and bright lights The food gets high scores for presentation (though I have seen better) but was bland, dull and repetitive. Sadly this restaurant has fallen foul of the fashion of putting style above content. There is no way that I would say...” I’m hungry do you fancy going to Kuuk” It only gets high ratings because it is trendy to serve arty food, not because eating there is enjoyable Add to that waiters who need to loosen up a lot. (I refrain from saying rude but......) Pretentious is the word that sums it up, It certainly is not relaxed, fun or worth the money

This place recommended by Rick Bayless was disappointing. Largely being isolated in a side room and having a waiter who was depressed, negative and should be doing something else was the reason for the poor review. The food was really good as was the presentation but the whole place was very pretentious. It was not worth wasting our limited food opportunity for this overrated establishment.

Let me start with - It is True - this is the best restaurant in Mexico. Not for the pseudo foodies that are only searching for a cheap meal with some highlights. If you are familiar with the real deal, kuuk equals mugaritz, celler de canroca, arzak, quintonil, EMP. Yes, the service lacks from gentle attention, but you must keep in mind that it is located in Merida and not a big city like the others and you can feel that the servers are delivering 130% . The quality of the menu, presentations and flavours are very unique and innovative. It is not a hidden gem because it is well known in the city, iI think it just need some huge celebrity to post a picture online. I hope i'll have enough time live to come back again.

Kuuk is extraordinary along every dimension: gracious service, beautiful space, gorgeous presentation, and superb cuisine. The menu is unbelievably imaginative -- each dish is more creative than the next. They are immensely flexible and accommodating, ready to switch the tasting menu to pescetarian or even vegetarian with little warning. Appetizers are world-class; main dishes are generous and subtle; desserts are extraordinary. Truly one of the most exceptional restaurants we have ever eaten at. Outstanding in every way!

We were able to safely and comfortably walk from our hotel (Fiesta Americana) to Ku'uk. It's a beautiful walk btw! We did make a reservation well ahead of time, which I recommend doing. It wasn't packed when we arrived, but we're early eaters. The courses were all appropriately sized for a tasting menu and there were a ton of them! You won't leave hungry. Our drinks were also top notch. While I didn't love every single course in flavor, the presentation was consistently gorgeous and our server was wonderful. The building has a unique history and you can look around at the photos and descriptions on the walls. We also asked the host for some more information and they were kind enough to take us on a tour! I would highly recommend this restaurant for the traveling foodie who loves an upscale epicurean experience!

Unique flavor sensations! We had both shrimp starters, each fabulous and totally different. Huge for starters-easily shared as the menu suggests. Fish of the day- grouper- also completely unique and wonderful. They offered us a tour of the kitchen and their laboratory where Chef comes up with locally sourced taste treats. They’ve even invented an oven to replicate the old local custom of cooking in the ground. Wonderful experience.

We traveled to MĂ©rida to eat at Kuuk. This restaurant has been on my culinary bucket list for years and it was amazing. It was a nine course Mayan culinary extravaganza with wine pairings. Presentation, taste, service was all perfection. So many things I never would have ordered myself and boy would I have been missing out! Take the chance people! They were also kind enough to give us a tour of the kitchen and their culinary lab after. Absolutely best meal we have had in years!

Honestly, one of the best meals I have ever had anywhere. The attention to detail was simply amazing. The restaurant, in a colonial-era home, is stunning. And being greeted by having the staff open the door makes you feel like you've been invited for dinner at someone's home, rather than a restaurant. Their signature cocktails are very inventive. I had a mezcal cocktail flavoured with jalapeno that gave it some spiciness along with the sweet. We shared the duck pibil and the esquites made with corn cooked underground for 36 hours and fresh cheese from Oaxaca. Great starters! The roast suckling pig topped with longaniza on a bed of lentil stew was simply outstanding. And the fish of the day (in our case mahi mahi) with a chaya rub served in a "cenote" of chlorophyl broth with apples, cucumber, green tomato, lime cream and edible flowers was probably the most artful presentation I've ever seen. And it tasted every bit as good. And, as if that weren't enough, the desserts were unlike any I've ever had: mango sorbet in a parsley soup and banana, milk skin and caramel was rich, complex dish well worth exploring. Kuuk is really a wonderful experience from the setting, the service, the cuisine and its presentation. Everything just so well considered and executed. Bravo!

The experience we encountered at kuuk defines the unexpected, modern and refined restaurant that you always seek (if you like to find amazing places worldwide) when traveling to a new city. The menu offers latin flavours, some of them unique, with elegance. Maybe I can compare K’u’uk with our first time at Central in Lima.

Perfection defines our experience at K’u’uk. We love this place and, even with all the pandemic complication they deliver a unique menu. The edible bubble that holds the smoked cebiche, the chocolate maskech dessert, the amazing cada madero wine pairing. PERFECT !

We were excited about trying this restaurant based on the reviews here and in other places, and were here this past Saturday night. The building itself was beautiful. That said, it felt a little cold and impersonal and museum like. Service was pretty solicitous - in short order we had some good cocktails that were excellent and then the starters. We had a shrimp/pork appetizer which was tasty as well as a unique pumpkin appetizer and one others. Appetizers were the highlight. Later our mains just werent great. I had a steak which was fine if unremarkable, and my friends didnt like theirs either. They made extensive use of dry ice in the presentation of various dishes but it didnt really make sense as to why. They just came out and dumped various things onto the plates. dessert was some sort of banana thing with popcorn that had dry ice, and it was not good. There is a tasting option but we were warned that it could last up to 3 hours. So we didnt do that. Overall, didnt love it, though I thought the appetizers were good.

We wanted to do the tasting menu with a wine pairing but because of a couple of food allergies we have, we had to order à la cart. The highlight of our meal was the pib pumpkin appetizer. The presentation was extraordinary and the flavors were incredible. I could have had another one. This may have been my favorite item of our entire trip, let alone this meal. We ordered two entrees to share - the suckling pig with lentils was very very good and my husband’s favorite. The second entree was the rabbit - which was interesting and earthy but didn’t knock our socks off. We had the mango sorbet for dessert and that was incredibly unique and refreshing. And gorgeous. Absolutely loved it. (Pic included) Overall 4 stars.
