We had an absolutely amazing time at Casa Mercedes. The staff is clearly knowledgeable and passionate about their food and menu; it was the best decision to ask for their guidance on what to order and what they recommend. We shared several appetizers, entrees, and desserts over a couple bottles of wine. It was delightful from start to finish. Excellent attention to detail. Beautiful view of Guanajuato. Small capacity so make reservations in advance.

The food, the atmosphere and excellent service make this place a must-go in the city. The waiter had a deep knowledge of all dishes and really made a different creating a cultural experience. The food was delicious. It really has a local taste.

My family had a wonderful lunch at Casa Mercedes, well worth the ten minute cab ride from the city center. We have been to Guanajuato many times in recent years, and have eaten at many of the top restaurants, but none equal the food and service at Casa Mercedes. The service was very professional and attentive, several steps above any other we have experienced in the city. The food was outstanding, the chile en nogada the equal of any served in Puebla. Our daughter has a food allergy and they were very responsive and attentive in explaining any dishes that might present a problem. Highly recommended!

We visited this restaurant based on the reviews the restaurant had, however we were very disappointed. The restaurant on Saturday night was empty, only 2 other tables, which should have been a sign of a subpart restaurant.
The food was average, not good and in my opinion overpriced for what you can get elsewhere in Guanajuato. I would not consider this fine dinning.
I'm giving this place a Poor Rating for the overall experience. Service was awful. If they consider themselves fine dinning, then they should train their staff as such. The entire staff but in particular our waiter was rude and bother with helping us thought-out the dinner service.
Consider dinning at one of the other restaurants in Guanajuato, this place is not worth your money or time.

My partner and I ate dinner at Casa Mercedes on a Saturday night, and it was one of the best meals we’ve ever had!
The staff and Ricardo, the GM, were incredibly attentive and warm, and answered all of our questions with clarity and patience (given that we are not Spanish speakers).
The food and drinks were superb — in particular, the mushroom soup and seasonal stuffed Chile pepper in a rich, creamy cheese sauce. Plus, as a non meat-eater, the menu was very vegetarian-friendly!
We could not recommend this restaurant more highly — if you’re in Guanajuato, this is a must-try! Thank you, Casa Mercedes!

This is a special experience kind of place. I arrived a half an hour early and the restaurant was jampacked. The owner found a place for me to sit in the entryway and continued to serve me drinks and appetizers while I was waiting for my table.
The food is clearly Mexican but it is done in an artistic way. Started with a delicious appetizer of cactus leafs with goat cheese and smoked salmon. Then I had the roasted chicken with rice, green Mole sauce and again it was absolutely delicious. The presentation was artistic and impeccable.
I finished my dinner off with a yummy and wicked chocolate tamale and maple pecan ice cream . The entire meal was absolutely delicious and a work of art visually. The owner Riccardo and his wife have done a magnificent job here. It is a private home and the feeling is one of eating in a lovely neighborhood home sitting high on the hill overlooking this beautiful city. Don’t come to Guanajuato without coming to this magnificent restaurant.

We visited this restaurant based on glowing recommendations from locals and were eager to enjoy a nice dinner with great food and wine. However, our experience was far from what we expected.
When we arrived, the restaurant only had two other occupied tables, yet it took quite some time for our server, who wasn’t busy, to greet us—and that only happened after my son waved him down. We asked for the wine list, but they were out of almost every wine we requested, so we settled for some mediocre cocktails.
When our food arrived, three of us had ordered the tongue dish, but it was tough and inedible. The server never came back to check if everything was okay. Instead, he returned, noticed our full plates, and simply asked if we were done. When we said yes, he didn't even bother to ask why we hadn’t eaten our food—he just took the plates and brought us the bill.
We ended up paying $370 for five people, and the entire experience was a major disappointment. I was especially disheartened because I had high expectations after so many recommendations. The owner was also present but didn’t seem to care enough to check on any of the tables.
Overall, the food was terrible, and the service was just as bad.

It's hard to overstate just how wonderful my experience at Casa Mercedes was. I arrived at around 3pm on Wednesday and the place was empty. I had both mescal cocktails (AlmĂbar de Xoconostle and the InfusiĂłn de Jamaica) and enjoyed them both. If I had to choose one, I'd go for the former as the flavor was unique, unfamiliar to me, and tasty. I went by myself and had a hell of a time narrowing down my options as everything on the menu seemed appetizing. I went with the chiles caloro (Stuffed banana peppers with lamb meat and a cheese mole sauce), followed up with the sopa negra de huitlacoche (mushroom, corn and epazote soup), and then had the lengua de res al alto vacio (sous vide beef tounge with a pecan mole sauce and white rice). I also had the pan de elote (corn cake with pecan ice cream) for desert. I found the quality of service to match the high quality of the food that I enjoyed. I highly recommend this place and look forward to returning.

We went to Guanajuato for a day trip from San Miguel and had read online that this was the best restaurant. We decided to check it our for lunch. Wow, what an amazing experience. Lovely staff and very helpful. The menu was very innovative, modern presentations, local ingredients and the flavors were spot on. Absolutely scrumptuous meal. Price - shockingly inexpensive for the food and service we received. Tremendous value for money. Worth visiting for sure!

This treasure is located in a lovely residential area. The decor is elegant and cozy and the views are breathtaking. The food is world class and rivals the best in NYC and SF. An incredible dining experience. Make a reservation since it is very small and very popular

The restaurant was located in a little street within a residential neighborhood and I didn’t know what to expect. Well, it blew my mind. The house turned restaurant was tastefully decorated and had a great view. The service, cuisine and wine selection were exceptional. The sous vide beef tongue with nut mole was exquisite; one of the best mole dishes I had in Mexico. I will definitely return when I visit Guanajuato.

I’ve eaten at some of the finest restaurants in the world and am delighted to include this absolutely fabulous restaurant as among the very best. Everything was perfect. Could not recommend more highly. We were there for a wedding rehearsal dinner. They reserved the entire facility for our group. Service was outstanding and the food was nothing short than spectacular

On this trip to Guanajuato, I was fortunate to eat at Casa Mercedes, a family restaurant, with a cozy atmosphere, great service and a well-thought-out menu, carefully curated from appetizers to dessert. On its menu you will find dishes with history, made with ingredients from the region and with all the love of a home-cooked meal. If you visit Guanajuato you should not miss this great experience.

What can be said about Casa Mercedes? It's a small restaurant with excellent food that perfectly combines flavors, as well as excellent service. Menu appeared extremely nice as we were reading it so we couldn’t decide,we ask our waiter (Said) for his recommendations, and every dish he recommended was great.
Said is quite knowledgeable about wine as well, so feel free to tell him what taste characteristics you're looking for in a wine if you're not familiar with the selection. You won't be let down by his suggestion.
Thank you to the chef and the staff for making this evening so wonderful.

I chose Casa Mercedes because of the opinions here on Trip Advisor. And I don't mind paying for a good meal, but yes, I don't like paying so much money for a chicken breast that, underneath its pipian sauce, was so dry that it was difficult to chew. The appetizer, salad, and dessert were worth what they charge, but paying $350 for a dry, tough brisket isn't fair.
I hope that this opinion that I offer serves to improve the quality of the dish, because yes, the place was very nice and the service was impeccable.
