We chose CDA to celebrate the first birthday of twin grandchildren who sadly were in frozen Canada while we roughed it out in PV. From entry to exit, we were treated very special. We started in P’yote lounge for a cocktail while we waited for our table. Before our drinks arrived, the garden table was ready. Cocktails, amuse bouche, appies, entre, dessert and coffee, the garden space was beautiful. We couldn’t have asked for more from waiters Jorge and Oscar. Great English and all questions answered with a smile. Value for our lousy Canadian dollar? Yes. Did we need the pre and post dinner Don Julio 1942? Did we need the bottle of Valle de Guadalupe vino? Don’t let the prices scare you away from CDA. Three great entres were just under 400 pesos each served with elegance in a beautiful tropical garden under the stars. Great food, great service in the most beautiful setting in Vallarta. Go.

Beautiful garden. Wonderful service. Great food. We’ve been visiting and dining here for at least 20 years. As I write this I was very disappointed that they charged $5 (US) for a glass of water and $13 (US) for a maragarita. My husband asked for a glass of water (no bottle, nothing special, just a glass). I asked for a Cadillac margarita....which I know is more....but $13 dollars US! Just very disappointed that they feel the need to charge those kinds of prices for drinks but I just wanted to warn and let people know. Otherwise like I said, very beautiful garden, wonderful service and great food. Just very disappointed. Probably will not return. There are so many places that are beautiful here.

This was a total dining experience from the setting through food through service. First a perusal of the cocktail menu, the jalapeño martini is a winner. Then the decision, the multi course tasting menu or individual selections from the menu? Adventure wins out - the sampler it is. In addition to entre items included on the main menu like the grilled pulpo, tuna encrusted in nuts, suckling lamb and beef cheeks in red wine sauce there is an array of unique entries like cauliflower in wine sauce and a Kampachi appy, all beautifully presented. This turns out to be the most elegant tapas night ever. Small servings but in total more than enough to satisfy. Our waiters Manny and Alexis set the pace. Initial dishes came out quickly and along with the cheese stuffed buns, dark bread and breadsticks took the edge off hunger and gave us a chance to enjoy the harpist who circulated among the tables and sang Spanish songs. He was a true delight. The music here is a highlight and a talented violinist followed while a pianist contributed from the foyer. Food service slowed although our waiters remained alert to our needs while we enjoyed the music and conversation. Finished with the birthday dessert presentation, which, as others have reported, is spectacular. We will return to experience the garden and try the regular menu. Plan to have the lamb entree and the cauliflower in our choices since both were exceptional dishes.

I had dinner here last night with two dear friends celebrating a birthday in their family. The garden area where we were seated was beautiful with tropical foliage and twinkling lights. The service was attentive without being obnoxious. The wine and tequila selections were extensive. What I ate was very good but unfounately CDA is making even less effort now compared to two years ago to welcome vegan diners. Two years ago when I dined here there was a three-course vegan meal (although they had no bread that was vegan that they could give us). This year there were no marked vegan items and the only item that they could provide was a cauliflower dish that didn't require extensive modification to be vegan. And the only dessert was sorbet. I know that most people who eat here are not vegan but more and more people are interested in a plant-based diet for their health and the health of the planet. I hope CDA gets with the times and offers a vegan item or two. Until they do, I'll eat at River Cafe or La Palapa, both of which recognize the value of serving vegan customers.

Beautiful setting in the garden - recommend you get there at 5.15pm to be assured a table in the garden - there was already a big queue when we got there at 5.20. Unfortunately after ordering drinks, we were given a pricey set menu with food we would not have chosen. We were told there was no other option. Totally understandable for Valentine’s Day but we felt cheated as this was not advertised on the website nor at the restaurant, as other restaurants do (we specifically picked here as it appeared we would not be stuck with a set menu). Paid too much for food we did not enjoy... aside from dessert which was very special. We did really love the location but would recommend you check out what you are getting in advance!

We’ve been to Cafe de Artistes in Puerto Vallarta many times and have had great food and good service. Last night was not one of those times. We arrived early and had great service until 5 or 6 other tables were seated in our waiters section. My salad consisted of a dozen dry spinach leaves, three “curls” of pear and three purple crackers. I like salad but would have loved some dressing or anything with some flavor. Spinach leaves are healthy but fairly tasteless. My dining partners loved the pumpkin soup. After a 45 minute wait, during which time we tried to order drinks but never received them, we finally were served dinner. Or rather the hot plates of meat were tossed on the table. My cauliflower was beautiful, I don’t eat meat so there was only one option, a cauliflower appetizer. It was covered in a thick red sauce that was so hot that after one bite I was in great need of water. Of course my glass was empty and it took three requests to three different waiters to get a refill. I drank my husbands. I was never asked if my food was good, nor if I’d like anything else even though my plate was barely touched. My dining partners liked their meat but the servings were tiny and there was only one small piece of potato on the plate for vegetable and it was so hard my mother couldn’t bite it. I left three hours later hungry and angry and $100 poorer. It’s too bad. We really used to like this place and dinner for 4 with drinks and dessert typically runs over $400 plus a 20% tip.

My friend and I visited Cafe des Artistes for dinner. We chose to be seated in the garden, which is absolutely gorgeous. I would definitely recommend a table here if the weather is cooperating. We ordered the vegetarian tasting menu with wine pairings. The food was beautifully presented and tasty overall. The mushroom risotto and soup amuse bouche were particularly good. Not a slam dunk with the food but definitely above average. My biggest gripe is the service. It was so disjointed and chaotic. Although we had two servers purportedly assigned to our table, so many people were running around. I asked to enjoy our champagne first before the food courses arrived, and one of the waiters was loudly informing another to stop bringing food until we finished. No need to be so loud about this in a fine dining restaurant. Also, when my friend was in the bathroom, they brought out another food course. I asked them to remove it until she came back, and they said yes and walked away (without removing the food). Service should be slick, not chaotic, in a restaurant like this, especially given the price. Also, I always enjoy learning about the wines pairings served with each course. Instead, the waiters mumbled the grape varietal and where the wine was produced and then ran off. No one showed any interest in the wine. In sum, beautiful place, relatively nice food, but very disappointing service.

We shared a table for 8 with friends in early February. We were shown to a nice table in their beautiful outdoor garden, and were served by a very solicitous wait staff. The food was terrific, the wine selection was exensive, and we were able to visit with all of our friends in the peaceful garden setting. This is a can't-miss destination for visitors to PV.

This is my first trip to Puerto Vallarta and having the opportunity to dine at Artistes is already a highlight. First, you should be sure to make a reservation using OpenTable. Second, if offered a choice in seating, you should definitely select the courtyard versus inside, as the ambiance is elegant and tropical jungle like without the bugs. We kicked off our meal with my all-time fave Maestro Dobel Diamante. After several rounds, moved into our appetizers: cauliflower explosion in textures, tuna and avocado over salt block, and inverted kampachi tostada. All three were excellent, especially the cauliflower as evidenced by the fact that my kids (they hate vegetables) even ate and enjoyed it. For entrees, we indulged in the short rib and charcoal beef filet, roasted Rock Cornish, and veal cheek au red wine. All three were hits. We skipped dessert because we had rich chocolate that my kids made earlier in the day at the Chocomuseo. Total damage including gratuity for the three of us was under $200 usd at the current exchange rate, which is simply incredible for a restaurant of this caliber and less than half what I would have paid in the States for an equivalent level establishment. Be sure to ask for Daniel and Leo because their service was super and it takes a lot to impress me on that front because I waited tables back in the day.

My husband treated me to a wonderful upscale dining experience for my birthday and the restaurant did not disappoint. The table was decorated with little birthday confetti and for dessert I was presented with an elaborate tray with a sparkler and 2 cookie/cupcakes. We were seated in the upstairs outside garden and the whole experience was outstanding.

First try to time your reservation to get seating in the outdoor area which is just so so charming. The wait staff are just wonderfully helpful and attentive, they make you feel special. The food is just exquisite. We four shared the tuna and avocado tartar on a salt block. Beautiful presentation, bursting with fresh tuna flavor. The menu suggests it is for two to share, but plenty for four. Three of us shared 2 inverted kampachi tostadas, again just perfect tuna an complex flavors. Another had the cream of prawn and pumpkin soup, which we of course all had to try - wonderful. The dinners rose to the occasion. Two had the special mahi mahi , done to perfection. I had the veal cheeks which were perfect, but then add in a rich mole sauce and it was special. Our fourth had the lobster, her favorite, and she loved it. The portions, while not being excessive are generous. We were all so satisfied that unfortunately we didn’t have any desserts. This is a special dining destination and my wife and I make a point of coming at least once every year on our Puerto Vallarta vacation.

This is a gorgeous place. The decor is beautiful and there is a live duo to play soft music while you dine. The service is first class, as is the expensive menu. This was the most we paid, including one appetizer, two main dishes, a glass of wine and dessert and coffee. I would recommend Cafe des Artistes for a special occasion or for a splurge. The food was very good, but not exceptional.

I took my partner to Cafe De Artiste to celebrate his birthday. It was a meal we won’t soon forget. We were seated in the garden, which was spectacular; and were provided with expert service from Marcos and Manuel. Standouts from the menu that included the cheese platter, lamb chops and the cauliflower appetizer. The bread and butter service ( don’t miss the cheese rolls) was delicious. The birthday dessert (a baked to order caramel lava cake with homemade banana ice cream) was spectacular as the violinist played Happy Birthday. We enjoyed the live music duo in the lounge after dinner while we sipped on a perfect espresso martini. All in all , “PERFECTO”!!

Cafe des Artistes was a magical experience, all around excellent food, service, and incredible ambience in the enchanted garden. We have eaten at dozens of Michelin-starred places around the US and Europe, and this place seems comparable in quality of experience to many of the 1-star places we've had the pleasure of dining at. I am a "pescatarian" while my husband eats everything, and they were happy to make slight modifications to the regular tasting menu for me, but they also offer a vegetarian tasting menu. The wine pairing was the only thing maybe not comparable to fine dining experiences elsewhere, but I know from extensive experience in Mexico that good wine is just not as widely available at anything near reasonable prices, and astonishingly, good Mexican wines are always more expensive than decent imports. That said, the wine offered was well matched to the food, completely acceptable, and a good value for the price.

Although my husband and I travel extensively, we have never been in a more beautiful setting for dinner than the garden of Cafe des Artistes. It is a true paradise with towering trees lit with tiny fairy lights and the chirping of crickets to accompany your meal. And then there is the food. Our marvelous wait staff, Manny and Arturo, started us out with a delicious sushi Amuse Bouche and a bread basket with some addictively good bread sticks. The menu is wide reaching with something for every palate, making it really hard to decide! Every dish was beautifully presented and delicious. Manny suggested a great wine to enjoy with the dinner and we couldn’t have had a more wonderful meal. We will be back next year and Cafe des Artistes will be one of our first stops!
