All reviews steak scallops chateaubriand belly pork bread potatoes pudding fish and chips lunchtime menu cooked to perfection two courses sunday lunch special occasion birthday meal lovely atmosphere be visiting again ben
Firstly, the portions are huge!!
I had goats cheese and my partner lobster cocktail for starters and they were beautiful. They werent tight with the lobster and it was well presented.
The mains!!! We had Dover sole and salmon and we both struggled to finish...them. They de boned the dover sole at the table which was really impressive and you literally got the whole fish. The salmon was so so big too!
I got a sundae dessert and again couldn’t finish it as it was huge! Over all it was good value for money and very tasty! We also bought from the fish counter too. The scallops were huge and the lobster tail was £10 and cooked the next day at home tasted beautiful.
The gate just had it all. Good food, good atmosphere, attentive service and value for money is a definite!More
First time here and had a great time.
We visited with another couple and everything with the Gate was perfect. Great food, service, ambiance and Covid precautions were high.
I am usually reticent to order steak in restaurants as most don’t do them properly but...the Gate cooked it perfectly and clearly used good quality ingredients. Superb. This was also was the same for the starters and other main courses (and sides) had by the group. Puddings also great.
Wine menu reasonably price.
We will for sure be back as soon as possible.More
Had a family get together today and couldn't fault anything. The food was perfectly cooked and presented with ample portion sizes. The staff were extremely courteous and helpful. Completely covid compliant. Have visited previously and enjoyed but this is my first visit since they've changed...things around a bit during lockdown. Can't fault them in anyway, a 100% enjoyable time was had by all. Can't wait to return.More
What a lovely little gem. 6* if it were allowed.
Friendly helpful curtious staff. Most places that say chargrilled spend about 10 seconds on a grill but you could tell these were Origonal chargrilled chicken. Plenty of choice and excellent value for money. I'm very...veeeery fussy when it comes to eating out but couldnt fault it. Spotlessly clean & .covid compliant. Such a lovely relaxed evening and would highly recommend.More
A lovely restaurant and shop. We found this place during lockdown and used the shop frequently. Since reopening we’ve visited the restaurant a few times and have never been disappointed. The food is amazing, the staff are great and the shop is incredible with plenty...to choose from!More
Attended the much talked about Steak house.
Reserved a table due to limited space because of Covid & it didn’t disappoint at all.
Greeted by friendly & professional Staff who’m sat us at our Table.
I recommend the Octopus, potato & Chorizo Starter along with...a Tomahawk Steak medium to rare if you have a big appetite.
Two bottles of Red wine
Came to a Total of £140.
£70 a head which I thought was quite reasonable.
The quality of food was really good & I already can’t wait to go back to try other items on the fantastic menu.
Brilliant Steak House with a lot to choose from. Meat lovers will be in Heaven.More
Our visit got off to a bad start when the host was incredibly rude about the fact that I had reserved a table for 3 and arrived as a party of four.
Immediately I arrived I apologised and said I had assumed it wouldn’t be...a problem as most tables are made to seat four (thinking after the pandemic they would be grateful for the extra cover)
He explained that it was fine for us to ‘slope in on this occasion, but had he only a table for 3 available he would be sending us home with our tale between our legs’. Charming, we laughed it off so as not to spoil the occasion but there was absolutely no evidence of any tables for 3 set up in the restaurant!
I was scolded like a child by an ignorant and over familiar young man.
Having worked as both a waitress and host during my youth I would never have dreamt of being so rude to a customer.
Anyway, a not fantastic start was followed by very average food, mediocre service and over all a pretty lacklustre experience.
I suspect they grovel at the feet of their regulars. In future we will stick with our own frequently frequented and far superior restaurants, there are much better steaks to be had in South Wales, that don’t require a sauce to give them flavour- very much doubt they are actually 30 day aged, with property cooked chips rather than the soft ones we were served.
Not worth the drive!More
