Called in to the Royal following a recommendation by a recently satisfied customer. Nice well spacious lounge. Friendly staff. Clean toilets. Ordered a steak meal. Which was promptly served and which I was very pleased with. I had a pint of Guinness to wash it down and left a happy customer. Well worth a visit.

The Royal in BJD was a great place for a pint and to meet friends and family. I'm from the US and every time we're in town we meet friends and family there. Good craic.

Myself and my two adult sons called here on Sunday May 8. The place was not overly busy and after perusing the menu we placed our orders at around 5pm. We were served our food at approx 5.40, a wait of some forty minutes. This was really unacceptable and at one point I did ask the waitress when we could expect to be served our food. Indeed, just prior to asking this lady, we had discussed cancelling altogether and going elsewhere.
One of the orders was served in a very amateur haphazard fashion with bread slices first then a pot of tea 10-15 mins later! There was no explanation or apology from the host during or after our meal for the inordinate time we were made to wait. The man was present and on duty. However the two after dinner coffees myself and one of my sons had were given gratis by one of the waitresses because, she said,of the wait we had endured. That tells me that they were indeed aware of our situation. The main man, Pat I believe, should've at least come to our table to speak to me. He chose not to.
I accepted the "free" coffees but in hindsight a 25% discount at least would've been more in order for the unnecessary inconvenience caused. The food was ok but any good in the experience was surely dampened by the overlong wait and subsequent lack of an explanation or any engagement from the management.
Overall this was not a very pleasant dining experience, and apart from the waitress asking if all was ok, the staff were not especially friendly.
On the day this place was not up to scratch, definitely not at the prices charged. Will not be dining at this establishment again.

My family and I spent the evening in The Royal bar recently and enjoyed the warmth, comfort, friendly staff and excellent food. Service was great too. I highly recommend this hidden gem.

I enjoyed my Lamb but my partner was not really impressed with the fish and chips. The beer and the staff was great.

Had a lovely meal here with the family for my birthday. We were seated in the small but very cosy dining room.
The menu has a great choice of dishes. Everything is cooked to order so expect a bit of a wait but it is well worth it.
There were ten of us and all the food was bought out together.
Everyone was very happy with their food which was plentiful.
Some of us did manage a dessert.
The service was excellent and very friendly.
Will be back again soon.

Came here with all my family to celebrate our birthday and when we arrived found our table all laid out and ready for us. Seated and our drinks ordered we were given plenty of time to choose our food. When it came we were impressed with the friendly service and that all our orders came at the same time. Food
was delicious and plentiful, so much most of us could not finish ! High praise for this place ! We will be back!

We had a nice lunch. It was meant to be boiled bacon and cabbage as per the menu. The cabbage was missing and other veg was substituted without explanation. Nevertheless quite tasty

After a nice day at Florence Court, my wife and I stopped in the Royal Bar for a bite to eat. We found the staff really friendly. My wife was pleased with her Chicken Paschal and I ordered lamb cutlets (pink). My lamb came just as I ordered... Nicely browned on the outside and definitely pink on the inside... succulent and packed with flavour. We were staying at nearby 4 star Cover House Hotel and I have to say the meal I had in the Royal Bar was better than the hotel dinner I had the previous night. I would have no hesitation in recommending the Royal Bar for quality, value and friendliness.

This is the only place in BJD where you can have a pint and some food. So, The Royal provide what I consider to be a vital service! The food isn't bad at all and the service is warm and friendly!
I intend to be a customer here for a long time to come!

Great pub to have a few pints, beautiful Guinness & very clean with a nice beer garden. Food is excellent but there's too many choices on the menu, too confusing! Lunch is great value. Staff are always really friendly & fun. A proper pub.
