Tried the soba noodles with pork and were pleased. The piece of pork was quite thin, and quite tender. Didn't have problems breaking it into smaller pieces with chopsticks. Definitely enjoyed these "local delicacies." Seemed a bit pricey for noodles, but the restaurant did not have a problem keeping the tables full, so no reason for them to reduce prices.

Great food (soba) but rather pricey. The soba was wonderful on a wet cold day. We tried the beef as well as the tempura. The batter on the tempura was a little thick, otherwise the food was good. We found the place rather pricey but admittedly it was in the middle of the hills.

The yam grated soba was great. Special for me as never heard of this before. Much better than expected, sorry we came on a full stomach otherwise we would have ordered more! We were also stopped by a friendly man that offered free parking if we dined in. Felt like it was a bit of a “trap” but it was not! Had a nice toilet and meal break before long drive back to Nagoya.

We came on purpose to eat soba (per previous comments). Unfortunately they didn't have any of the soba dishes with vegetables and ham left, so we chose the basic dish in the photo (soba without anything and rice bowl with beef). The fantastic beef rice, the soba, didn't taste like anything. Not recommendable. The atmosphere is nice. Very local, we were the only tourists.

We were driving towards the unesco site and stopped right in front of the restaurant as we thought we could park there. The person standing there told us that we can park there for free but would need to dine at the restaurant. I was told that the parking fees will be 1000 yen inside the main carpark. As such, we thought why not since we need to have lunch anyway. We walked to the village before coming back for lunch which they were agreeable. We were skeptical and thought that it may just be a tourist trap. But we were wrong, the experience itself was amazing. This restaurant is similar to those traditional houses found at the village. Thus, it seems to be like dining inside one of the old traditional Japanese houses which was an eye opener. The food was amazing too. They served soba, both hot and cold. But do take note that they do not have an English menu but they do have a picture menu and you can simply tell the server which one you want, got or cold. I ordered the cold soba for a change. The texture of the soba cold was interesting and totally different from the hot soba. Not only that, the soba have a BBQ taste to it (or it's just me) and I found it rather different from the other soba and I loved it! It's like eating BBQ soba in soup. I tried the hot soba and the broth was also amazing. Not the usual taste but in a good way.

You have to know some Japanese to get your order correctly. No English menu. One person did speak English but the restaurant was too busy to help us. Instead of hot noodles, we got cold soba noodles which surprisingly was tasty. Later in the evening I got an upset stomach and passed out whatever was bothering me. I didn't eat anything else for lunch. So most likely someone or some utensil was not clean. Not going back.
