Me and my partner went for Sunday dinner. Not very busy but service was slow. When we did come to order they had ran out of beef dinners and cauliflower cheese (gutted!) When we did get our dinner my partner was missing items from his roast however after waiting he decided he wasn’t bothered about me pointing it out (typical). And I must say my steak wasn’t up to much either! Overall it’s a bit over rated and land Lord seemed to just want to talk to his friends while the manager (I assume she was as she didn’t have a uniform on) tried to run the floor, deal with staff and finish her shift ( you can tell I was facing the bar). When she left the staff seemed to just do as they pleased complaining about their shift and swearing to one another, and ignoring the few customers left. Now I’m no stranger to a few swear words but it all seemed, rushed, poorly ran and no one seemed to care. Hoping for a better experience next time, but just feels like £80 down the drain.

Hi Amy, Thank you for your feedback it is very much appreciated. Unfortunately as this is only our second weekend with restricted staff and measures we are unsure how many joints of beef to prepare for the later bookings from 7:30 pm onward as there were only 2 couples booked in for dining and 1 couple for drinking on our system. As you can appreciate some of these are drinkers and some are diners, we do our best with our stock but we are still finding our feet on numbers as I say we have only had one shot at the Sunday service the week before. However, that said the quality of steak, the missing items, and the lack of enthusiasm shown by the team towards yourselves is something which will be communicated with the Sunday team as we should be providing a more enthusiastic approach to our guests and we usually do, therefore we are very appreciative that you have given us an insight into your evening. We hope you both visit in the future so you can receive a more positive experience again next time and please do not hesitate to contact the pub if you need anything else we will be glad to be more assistance. Keep safe, The River Wyre Management.

This Vintage Inn is always welcoming and warm - but all the more so on a start of the week, wet and windy evening. We were far from the only ones who braved the elements on a bad weather Monday night but it's a big place so there was still a good choice of tables near the blazing fire. With dim lights and full walls it's a homely place - helped by a landlord who has been here years and is refreshingly old school. The menu is extensive and there are meal deals to be had but the portions are large so think twice before ordering too many courses in advance. We stuck with just mains (well, it was only Monday after all!) - for me a tasty beef bourguignon and for my wife an equally impressive chicken and mushroom pie. To accompany we opted for a nicely chilled pinot grigio rose and a pint of Mad Goose pale ale. Both were very welcoming and it was a shame I was driving or we would have stayed longer! Service was friendly and attentive and the atmosphere was excellent.

Food was mediocre, portions pretty small but highly priced. I had the luxury fish pie which had 2 prawns and 3 tiny pieces of white fish in a nice sauce and topped with mash potatoes and for desert apricot crem brûlée, again this was tiny, 2 spoons and it was gone !!! The biggest disappointment was the bad tempered man who directed us to our table, no welcoming smile or greeting and no eye contact, who made us feel an absolute nuisance to him, thank goodness we had a lovely waitress who looked after us well. Would I rush back ? No.

With Sunday Roasts so available in so many places I find it really difficult to understand how an establishment can get it so wrong. Went on the 23rd of Feb, 4 adults and one child. We ordered the platter starter to share and at virtually £16 a pop it isn’t exactly cheap. However it was dreadful and consisted of very little food plus a garlic flatbread that was raw. There could not have been more than £3 worth of food in total. The Sunday Roasts were in a different league of poor. Frozen Roast Potatoes, soggy vege, including the cauliflower cheese which we ordered as an extra. The carrots were roasted and raw but king of all the mistakes was the meat. Two of our party ordered the three meat roast, turkey, beef and belly pork with crackling 🤣🤣. Crackling ! It was a slab of pure mushy fat that had never seen crackling and didn’t resemble any edible form of meat at all. It was taken away to be returned with an identical s,ab if fat on the second plate. The gravy was thick and gloopy and all in all this was just about the worst Sunday lunch I have ever tasted in a restaurant. The whole party left more than they ate but there were no questions asked by the staff and when feedback was offered it was ignored. To top it all the service was appallingly slow and we actually had to ask the staff to remove the starter plates etc so we had room for our main meals. This is not a cheap venue and therefore it is reasonable to expect quality food and service but they are a million miles off on both counts. Will not be returng.

Where doni start . I hate leaving bad reviews but this my husbands and mine first valentines date we had in couple of years due to work commitments . Sonwe ordered the share platter for starter . The prawns in chorizo in garlic butter tasted like the sauce had chemicals in or maybe the coating off the pan . As soon as we tasted it we had tons put it out. (Discretly of course) but it really did taste like somthing was dropped in it . Strange and awful. Inalsonfound a srip of stretchy plastic in my starter. So for the main my husband had sea bass which the skin was soggy and the fish tasted old . And smelled old . Surely they could have at least made the skin crispy but it was not at all . The mash he had with it tasted like powdered mach too. I had the ribeye which was 60% fat. Decent chips but defo not triple cooked. I ordered beef dripping sauce that tasted like watery bisto. For puddings I had the cheesecake in berry sauce. The filling was ok but the crust tasted stale as hell, and was soggy. Husband had lemon meringue which was tasteless and gelatinous. I know lemon meringue is supposed to be firm ish but this was gakky if that makes sense and the crust again tasted wierd and stale. . We couldn't wait to get out and go home. I am not exaggerating. We come away feeling really underwhelmed and not once did anyone ask how our meal was because if they had we would have told them . As I said not one for complaining and never leave bad reviews, this is my first one bad review. Come on river wyre , u can do better than this. Maybe you need to consider changing chefs. Such a waste of money . Not to mention the face is was supposed to be 21.95 for 3 course meal and we spent £60 we only had 1 pint of stell each and the rest were supplements you have to pay on top , even tho they were supposed to be set menu. Utterly dissapointed . If your going to do a set menu. Make it a set menu.

Been for lunch, it was just about average, lobster fish cake and all I could taste was potato. Potatoes that looked like they had been warmed up in the microwave. Staff that ask “any sauces” not “ would you like any sauces”. No one that comes to ask if the meal is ok. Order drinks at the bar , they don’t even bother to say , I’ll bring them over, only say it when you have stood waiting. Fish and chips not fish goujons as on the menu and was quite greasy.

My husband and I went for Sunday lunch today. He ordered beef roast dinner and I ordered beef bourginion. The room we sat in was chilly even although the fire was lit. The staff were really pleasant but when my husband asked for some tap water for the table he was asked if it was for a dog!! He was then given the water in a bottle but no glasses! When our food came mine was piping hot but my husbands was cold. He asked for some warm gravy which was promptly brought to him but all the veg meat etc were cold. When we told the girl she apologised and said she’d tell the kitchen. When he paid for the meal nothing was said to him. Very disappointing!

I am sorry to hear that your experience with us what not a positive one, I shall pass this on to the Sunday team to ensure better phrasing when it comes to water as we do provide water for both humans and companions, I shall ensure that the service is more finely tuned, i.e forgetting glasses. The kitchen team will be reported back to again regarding the food quality. This feedback helps us to move forward and improve. Kind Regards, Steph

No positives to note in this experience. We were left standing at the door for 10 minutes on arrival with my elderly grandad. The service from wait staff was terrible, after half an hour of being seated our order hadn’t been taken, and after 1 hour we still hadn’t eaten. There was no turkey roast dinner left but no one told us this until we tried to order 3 of this dish. We then had to quickly find something else to order, we visited specifically for the roast. The food that did eventually come (I had the lamb rump) was not worth even half of what we paid. The potatoes were old, cold and dried up, the lamb was chewy and full of fat. The vegetables were boiled and thrown on the plate, pigs in blankets, or “sausage in duvet” were dried up and burnt. We ordered dessert, only 3 of the 4 desserts arrived. Time between courses waiting for the wait staff was very long and we often had to call the waitress over as we had waited so long. The meal was terrible. The service was worse. We will not be returning and we will be telling our friends to avoid this restaurant.

Really good food and amazing service. We asked a local for somewhere nice to eat pub grub and he recommended here. He was dead right! We booked a table but was almost half and hour late. I called ahead to advise and there was no problem at all. Service is excellent here and nothing is a problem. The kids had a pizza, chips and garlic bread meal with a desert and fruit shoot for around £8 -£9 they were good portions too. Partner had soup which was lovely and then a burger for his main, then he had creme brûlée. He was pleased with it all. I had pizza which I really enjoyed. Food was so good my son wanted to go back the next day (he’s a fussy eater) so we did. Kids had the same again, I had a kids meal myself (was plenty for me) and my partner had the duo of lamb. The veg served with it was gorgeous. He had banoffee pie for desert, you have to try it!! It’s a vintage in chain if you subscribe the day before you go you can get a free desert (your welcome )

Been visiting this pub for over 20 years, staff and team WERE fantastic but sadly they have all left, new management attitude shocking, sad for the staff as it is not there fault-Cameron who served us was excellent - but it is hard to be your best when your back up/management are poor, doubt if he will be there for long he was too good. Everything gone downhill, evidently they have a 'new management team and 7 new staff' where are the old ones? bring them back as the 'new management team' are pretty hopeless, manageress spent 15 mins arguing with 4 of us about the service and blaming the staff! won't be returning for a long time if ever we will be going to Miller & Carter in future. We visited a couple of months ago and the service and food were so bad they gave us (3 couples ) a £30 voucher each that's £90! only 2 couples returned and it was the same... if I could give a bit of advice to the manageress it would be ...visit the Miller & Carter pubs and see how you should be doing things or better still ask the last manager! but as our last 2 visits showed she won't be listening.

We went out of our way to find a Sunday Roast that wasn't all out of the freezer, and The River Wyre had good reviews. Sadly it was very ordinary, the Beef and Turkey were very tasty, but the stuffing was very small virtually non existent. The greatest disapointment were the barely warm vegetables. The beef dripping roast potatoes, reminded me of something over boiled from a school dinner. The strange mix of thyme-roasted carrots, broccoli, honey-roasted parsnips and roasted courgettes, red onions & peppers all arrived piled into a small bowl, making it impossible to select any items. All in all, it was dull and I'd recommend trying the nearest carvery where you know what you're getting.

Thank you for your feedback, Mike we will pass this on to the kitchen team as this is the team that can iron out these problems. Unfortunately our specifications are that the vegetables are served in a bowl this is to help you as the guest pick and choose what you would like from the selection of vegetables we serve. As for the rest it is something we can improve on for you next time. Thanks again

Lunch time visit, very limited selection for lunch, lamb koftas £12.95 !!! Had a brisket sandwich which was fine, followed by a cappuccino which was not a cappuccino but a large milky drink that had not seen any coffee, I would like to express the service was extremely good and did not get charged for coffee. Maybe this is the wrong choice of venue for lunch but having visited many times over the years I feel that this “pub” is offering reasonable pub food at nice restaurant prices. The exterior is looking shabby but retains a cosy interior. Me and my fellow diners agreed we would avoid in the future. 😐

We came in for our first proper date night after lockdown. The staff were very informative on the social distancing rules and were conscientious of making sure we were aware and happy with the new normal. Our food was excellent - I had a steak which was cooked perfectly, just as I had asked and my boyfriend had the beef bourguignon which was succulent and tasty! The service was excellent but a special thanks to Steph who was a great host and was clearly working very hard to ensure everyone was well looked after - we couldn’t have asked for more!! We will definitely be returning for another date night.

Nice greeting, sat to our table promptly, overall look of referb was inviting. The menu was not explained and no kids menu given. The food was satisfactory but slightly over priced for what it was, the fries were mouth-wateringly described but the reality was £3.50 for literally a handful of standard fries with a spring of rosemary..... really! To be fair I could cope with that but unfortunately that was not what ruined the experience. Myself & my daughter finished our meal and were set on ordering dessert, we waited 20-25 minutes to get the waiters attention at which point we had to resort to giving up on dessert and paying at the bar as we'd had enough of waiting around and just left feeling a little disgruntled. Not the experience you set out for when going out for a meal. I was excited to try the "new" River Wyre but from my experience it was better before.

We do try to strive to give 5* service to all our guests that come through the door and at all costs not to disappoint any guest that comes to dine with us. I can only apologize for the poor service that you received and will be bringing this matter up with my team as they all know we believe that any guest that walks into our restaurant deserves the best dining experience possible and again I apologize that you did not receive this. I hope that you may come back to us again soon and we can show you what we can do. Regards The River Wyre

Booked a table for two for Sat night. It was quiet but the person greeting did not seem to be able to work the tablet and took ages to book us in and find us a table. The menu is limited and basic. We both chose the chicken & mushroom pie which is described on the menu as follows. Chicken in a Chardonnay woodland mushroom & leek sauce topped with puff pastry. What turned up was a dolop of grey chicken in the bottom a dish with one slice of mushroom and not a hint of Chardonnay or leek as it was so dried up. There was a gap of aprox 4” from the filling to the pastry topper. I had to ask for gravy to moisten before I had even tasted it and was given beef gravy! This came with oven chips and fresh veg which was the best bit. They do not need a chef to cook this food, it looked like it was mass produced, straight from a container, microwaved and served. Absolute robbery and won’t be going back.
