    Great free museum
Wow! You can’t beat being able to go to a museum in the heart of the city for free! We started on the top floor and thought the museum was just ok, nothing very special (sports memorabilia, small kids section, etc). But then we did the exhibits on the bottom floor and loved it. Learning about NC history was interesting and the bottom floor of the museum was very well done. We enjoyed looking at old artifacts and they even had a couple of old buildings inside (not just replicas). There is also a nice gift shop on the bottom floor. There is parking on the street or in lots nearby. A great way to spend some time in the city.

    Free admission
Free admission! We stopped in on a Sunday at around 1 and spent probably about 40 minutes here. If you're interested in learning about North Carolina's history (including development, trades, slavery), then this is a good museum to go to. It wasn't too crowded when we went, so that was nice. I have a feeling it probably gets crowded on weekdays with school trips. I do wish there were more benches around though. The museum is set up in a way that you kind of just follow one path, so if you needed to take a break, there's really nowhere to sit. It's a quick visit though, but just something to keep in mind.

    North Carolina Museum of history
Free to enter and really interesting. Gives you the history of North Carolina. Give yourself at least 2 to 3 hours to get through it. They have some old houses in there too from the past which were really cool. Go before October of this year because they are about to shut down for renovation.

    Excellent Experience
First of all, IT’S FREE - even to non-residents. It is so nice of the people of North Carolina to provide this attraction to everyone. Upon entry, the interior was welcoming, spacious, and clean. The exhibits were well-done and easy to follow, chronologically. The museum is a well-organized walk-through story unlike other state history museums I have visited.
