- Pchan3,188 contributionsIt takes your breath awayNo big introductions are needed for this amazing archaeological site. After the long walk before and during the Siq, seeing the Treasury appear in front of you literally takes your breath away. I recommend arriving at the Treasury no later than 8:00 in the morning, to avoid the crowds of tourists and Bedouins looking for customers who pour into the space as early as 9:00/10:00. So it's best to leave no later than 7:00 from the ticket office. At this time the temperature is still excellent even in August, and the silence is total. To take perfect photos, however, you have to wait until at least 9:00. In August between 9:00 and 11:00 the light on the Treasury is at its best. Before 9:00 the facade is not yet illuminated, but around this time the sun begins to bathe the facade in gold and the show is truly incredible. However, I advise against arriving in the afternoon because the sun turns behind the Treasury and you end up taking photos against the light. Also recommended is Petra by Night, a very fascinating and unusual experience, with a fascinating archaeological site illuminated by torches and the colored lights of the musical show. Really nice!Visited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 January 2024
- Phillip DettleffSantiago, Chile3,768 contributionsWonder of the World!!!This façade, known as the treasury, is the most iconic postcard of the city of Petra. It is unmissable to know this wonder of the world. 100% recommendable. Tips: -There are many street vendors in this area. Just tell them no. -You have to walk a long way from the entrance to get here (partly slightly uphill). But it is unmissable. You can't visit Petra without seeing the treasure. -You can take the day tour to Petra from Jerusalem. Although you leave very early in the evening and return at night. You cannot take drones to Jordan, you will probably have problems at the border.Visited February 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 28 January 2024
- adv1977Turin, Italy749 contributionsDream glimpseGetting to the Treasury through the souk (canyon carved into the rock and the only possible route) is one of those experiences that remain forever imprinted in the eyes and minds of those who visit the archaeological site of Petra, rightly considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The emotion you feel when you begin to glimpse the shapes of the structure between the narrows of the souk is something indescribable. It's just a shame that the route to get there (about half an hour's walk from the entrance) is quite tiring on the hottest days. Absolutely worth seeing!Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 March 2024
- Nicolas_CdX66Saint-Jean-Pla-de-Corts, France2,119 contributionsUnavoidableMagnificent site. Starting from the museum esplanade, a 4km walk on a track allows you to cross the Siq (dry canyon) and reach this iconic place: few people during the visit, due to nearby military events. The passage of the Siq shows the path of the water in the gorges and we emerge in front of the Treasury. Spectacular view.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 June 2024
- kekejlbBouchain, France438 contributionsWonder of PetraOne of the 7 wonders…… which bears this reference well……. You wander through the canyon to find yourself in front of a Monument……preferably it is better to take a guide……currently in June there are no security problems (few visitors)!!! You must see this magnificent construction in the Roche.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 June 2024
- Haytham Abu FirasQatar21,302 contributionsThe TreasuryAl-Khazneh, The Treasury, it means a place to keep your treasure and valuable belongings. It is one of the most elaborate rock-cut tombs in Petra, a city of the Nabatean Kingdom inhabited by the Arabs in ancient times. The most visited place in Wadi Musa. You need to walk 600 meters on sand followed by 1200 meters on carved stones to reach to Al Khazneh through Al Siq. You can take a camel ride there for JD 5 for one round and photos. Many cafes and souvenir stores.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 4 August 2024
- JasminBengaluru, India223 contributionsThe view is amazing! The best place to visit in Jordan, it’s definitely the highlight of Petra! The colour of the stone is distinct from the entire Petra, as it is more reddish and looks beautiful during sunset. You can either walk your way through canyons or take the buggy ride. We walked through the canyons/ mountains and felt very excited to see the Treasury.Visited October 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 November 2024
- Geoff HSissinghurst, United Kingdom18,067 contributionsAn amazing structureI dare anyone not to be amazed by the first sight they have of the Treasury Al-Khazneh as they emerge from the Siq. It truly is an amazing structure, especially when you consider that it was built by the Nabataeans some 2,000 years ago. It is misnamed the Treasury because, actually, it is the tomb of the Nabataean King Aretas IV. You will, no doubt, take your own photo of this, the most 'snapped' structure of all the ruins in Petra.Visited November 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 30 November 2024
- Geoff HSissinghurst, United Kingdom18,067 contributionsMagnificentLeaving the tomb of Uneishu and the rest of the Petra archaeological city behind us we continued on our visit through the Outer Siq to the magnificent Al-Khazneh; which is probably the most photographed of all the buildings/ruins/tombs in Petra. Carved out of the sandstone in the first century AD, it is thought that Al-Khazneh was the tomb of the Nabataean King Aretas III and,as ornate as it is on the exterior, like all the other monuments carved out of the rock n Petra, the interior is exactly the opposite and is very plain and unadorned. Although it is a tomb, it is also known as "The Treasury" becvause a legend grew up that the urn on the facade contained the treasure of an Egyptian pharaoh who hid it in there while he was chasing Moses and the Israelites.Visited November 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 3 December 2024
- EmaRoroOnTheRoadParis, France2,010 contributionsWonder of the worldPetra's treasure. Once you cross the Siq you will be largely rewarded for your short walk. The place is majestic and commands respect. Its colors change with light, it's just beautiful. We are facing one of the wonders of the world without a doubt. When he arrives at the end of the morning, he sees him pairing up and shining at the end of the Siq, it's magic. You will have enough to settle down, drink a cold drink or a hot one and for the tired a solution to return to the entrance without having to walk.Visited December 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 January 2025
