    Abra road
A fairly wide channel, crossed by a lot of boats of all kinds, zigzagging between the banks like aquatic insects. In the Bur-Dubai area, the shore is full of restaurants with terraces right on the water's edge. Also, here is the bazaar area, very lively and crowded. I think it is an experience that must be tried.

    Enjoyed my visit here!
After checking it at my hotel in Deira, this was the first attraction I visited i the area. I noted shops and stores as I walked towards the Abra Station where I rode the local boat for 1 AED. The boat ride was short, about 5-7 minutes. There is a Souq or a small market area where one can shop for clothings, spices, nuts, bags & luggages, jewelries, etc. Of course there are small restaurants along the creek and near the Souq. I enjoyed my visit here. Highly recommended to visit here, when you get bored visiting high rise buildings.

Where Dubai got started in the 1830s
This saltwater creek that leads from the Persian Gulf towards the south landinward is where first human settlement took place in this part of the Arabia. Originally the creek was not very deep and it ended in a swamp (Ras al Khor). Gradually it was deepened and quays were developed along its shores enabling dhows (cargo ships) to dock. Nowadays it is much more "developed". A canal was built in 2016 connecting the once dead-end creek to the sea south of Dubai. Along its shores particularly southwest is the modern city with sky scrapers, but towards the north where it is dividing Bur Dubai and Deira still more traditional harbour activities can be observed. This is definitely the most interesting part of the creek, though few Emiratis still tend to live there. Deira and Bur Dubai feel more like cities on the Indian subcontinent.

Great to see but pestered non stop !
So pleased we visited here to experience a bit of old town Dubai in the Gold & Spice Souks. We were ready to be pestered by the vendors but our experience took things to a whole new level. We were always polite with ‘no Thank you’ but for some that’s not enough, they physically grab you or even block you leaving their store if you enter so my advice is to visit if you are confident & know what you want but if you are timid do not go, you will be taken advantage of. Do not shake hands (they don’t let go & pull you in), do not try on head scarves “for a photo” as it is taken as a gesture to but, etc etc… Always haggle on price as first price is never best & even “best price” is not lowest ! Again, we wanted to come here & really pleased we did, also make sure you experience the boats across the creek, you pay the driver 1 EAD pp/per trip - !!! We found a nice coffee shop for a break @ also a nice place for ice tea by the creek, quite reasonable prices too

    Picturesque
The one dirham boat ride across was an experience, ensure you don’t end up on a private crossing as they are much more expensive and unnecessary in my opinion. The guys running the boats are very keen to lead you to a private option. We were not comfortable walking round the vendors on the other side as they were so persistent and determined. So a very short half hour and we went back. The stalls on the main side had a couple selling fresh squeezed juice. Absolutely delicious and very cheap, orange or pomegranate.

    A must do in Dubai!
Love Love Love Dubai! The creek is a must! Like being in the Aladdin film! See the original part though, do a tour with a guide you learn so much! Definitely take an Abra over to the souk. What an experience. Would 100 % return.
