Hotels near Museu Cerro Da Vila

A visit to Cerro da Vila Museum and Archaeological Site is a 5000-year journey through the history of humankind. The route through the ruins provides an immersive experience of a typical Roman maritime villa (c. 1st – 5th AD). Inside the villa are mosaics, luxurious fountains (domus), public and private baths, fish sauces factories, funerary monuments (columbaria, inhumation graves) and highlights the existence of a fluvial port serving as a trading post. In the museum, the temporal incursion begins with an on-site appreciation of the graves unearthed in Vinha do Casão cemetery, Vilamoura, Algarve (c. 12th – 10th BC), in a period that the south of the Iberian Peninsula focused their economy on the exploration and production of bronze metal. In this time travel, demand goes through the Roman (c. 1st – 5th AD), and Islamic (c. 8th – 12th AD) period. Archaeological artifacts related to architecture, sculpture, commerce and death are shown, with many of them being unique in Portugal.

Informative museum with Roman ruins. The museum offers a pamphlet with a suggested route that takes you through the area that would have been the baths, the entrance, the necropolis and other highlights of a Roman villa. All is outside in a beautiful green area, clearly marked. Inside, archaeological artifacts from the Bronze Age, the Roman era and the Islamic era, all with informative experts about origin, historical era and uses. It costs 4€ for entry. Be aware that the museum is open only on weekdays (Monday- Friday) and that it opens at 09:30 (Google currently says 09:00)

We had read out the Roman ruins before arriving and as it was a dull morning decided to walk around to the museum. We were not disappointed. We were warmly welcomed by the receptionist, who took the time to walk to the entrance with us explaining the route around the site and giving us a leaflet to explain further. There were more ruins than we expected and they were well displayed with clear signage explaining things. We then walked around the small museum which had many examples of items found. At €2 entrance each as seniors it was great value for money.

A small museum just a short walk from vilamoura marina. Very good value on admission, approx 2euros per adult - we went about an hour before it closed and the lady said we could come again the next day for free if we wanted longer to look around. Nicely preserved Roman site to wander around and small museum of artefacts. Lovely little museum

We spend around 90 minutes at the archaeology site and museum. It was interesting and definitely worth the visit. Its a cheap activity and I don't think we had to pay for our 11 year old son. He enjoyed trying to work out what things were before we read the descriptions.

A great find just behind the marina in Vilamoura. A fairly large excavation of a a Roman villa and fish processing area. Small museum inside contains artefacts and human remains from the site . Such a contrast to the marina just a few hundred yards away.

If in Villamora this museum is well worth a visit. It costs just €2 to enter. The ruins give a good idea of life in Roman times. Each room has informative clear signage. The museum is small contains many interesting artefacts.

At last somewhere decent to visit in a very commercialised Vilamoura which was extremely interesting with the remains/ruins of a villa. Also a lovely mueum on the site. Very reasonable admission fee especially for senior citizens. Stayed for an hour or more.
