We visited Gibraltar and took the Cable Car up to the top last Sunday. We bought the tickets in advance online and waited less than 10 minutes to board the cable car. We bought the two way trip with nature park ticket as we wanted to see everything and wanted the option to ride the cable car down if we decided to. We walked over a lot of the mountain and saw the macaques up close. There are tons of instructions and warnings about being in close proximity with the macaques. We did not bring backpacks and didn’t have food nor bags and the macaques did not touch us. We saw many of them including several babies. There is more than enough to see and experience on the mountain yo last a full day. We experienced the clear platform, and a very small portion of St Michael’s Cavern which is incredible. Our legs were already worn out from hiking in different areas earlier in the week so we only saw the upper areas of the cavern. After experiencing all that we had time for, we chose to walk down the mountain and we thought it might not be so difficult going down. Much of the way is paced, however walking down is pretty challenging. We eventually came across a stairway down that led to a rock and gravel stairway down ending in concrete stairs to the streets of the city of Gibraltar. Our legs felt like jelly after we finished but we are still quite happy we completed our experience by walking down. We are of average fitness level and will say that experiencing the mountain in Gibraltar was challenging. This isn’t for people in poor physical condition. However there is the option to hire a taxi van to tour you that stops at several points up and down the mountain.

The cable car is the most convenient way to visit the Rocca, as in a few minutes you get to the top. I highly recommend buying tickets on the site, including the cumulative ticket for admission to the park (prices are identical and there is also the possibility to buy discounted ones as for over 65s or students). Although there is still a bit of a queue to do because the voucher (valid for one month from purchase) must be presented at the ticket office, you skip the whole queue of those who have yet to buy it: we saved almost an hour, even if we did not go there in high season.

It is definitely worth taking the cable car. Better book online to avoid waiting times. Please do not fall for the offers with the shuttle service. It goes faster, but the buses pollute the air up there and the monkeys are fed although prohibited.

The Gibraltar Cable Car is an absolute gem and a must-do for anyone visiting this unique destination. Priced very reasonably compared to other European tourist attractions, it offers an incredible view of Gibraltar, the Mediterranean, and even as far as Morocco on a clear day. Many comparable experiences across Europe—like cable cars in Switzerland, Austria, or France—can set you back significantly more. For the price of admission here, you not only get to marvel at breathtaking views but also enjoy an experience that’s steeped in history and natural beauty. You can't put a price on a vista like that, but Gibraltar's Cable Car certainly offers incredible value for what it delivers. A Word to Cruise Ship Visitors Who Complain About Queues: To those cruise ship visitors leaving negative reviews because you had to wait in line, let's have a reality check. When you willingly choose to travel the world packed onto a floating city with thousands of other tourists, it's hardly shocking that queues will form when your ship docks at popular destinations. If you expect to be whisked straight to the front of the line at every port you visit, perhaps you should reconsider your travel choices. Tourism hotspots like Gibraltar attract visitors from all over, and it’s not a private show just for cruise-goers. If you're upset about crowds, look no further than the 3,000 fellow passengers standing behind you at the attractions! The fact that this incredible cable car, with its stunning views and unique access to Gibraltar's natural beauty, remains so popular is proof of its value. Complaining about queues when you’re part of the influx that caused them is not only short-sighted but also a tad hypocritical. Remember, you're not in a queue....you ARE the queue.

We took the car to enter Gibraltar. Parking lot full, so we parked a bit away from it along the road. The line was as everyone writes, long. We waited about 45 minutes. Nice view, and also "wild" monkeys seen. They sat down to have their picture taken. The restaurant upstairs only had snacks and drinks (coffee fine), so don't expect to be able to eat anything hot there. A nice experience to have done.

If you have the option, go here on a day where there are no cruise ships in port. I was in Gibraltar two days; the first day there were two cruise ships in port, and everything (including the cable car) was packed. Had I taken the cable car that day, it probably would have had a one- or two-star rating, like many of the reviews here. The following day, when there were no cruise ships in port, was a different story. At base terminal, there was about a five minute wait before getting on a gondola. The one-way ticket doesn't give much of a discount, but it's very enjoyable to walk through the nature reserve down to the city, stopping at some of the attractions on the way. If you have the time to do that, and the knees, it is a good experience. While this is an expensive attraction, I would certainly do it again if I was in Gibraltar again - but only on days when there is not a large cruise ship in town.

Prebooked ticket online and caught the number 2 bus from the Market Place which took me in sight of the cable car. Hardly any queue. Though this is not always the case if there is a cruise ship in. Person at the ticket desk noticed my stick and probably my limp and explained that I was unlikely to be able to walk to all the attractions in the Nature Reserve. However did provide a map and recommend how far I may be able to walk from the top station Wonderful views from the Cable car on the way up (and down) though each car is crammed full so not sure what people away from the windows saw. Several viewing platforms at the top station and monkeys to be seen before you even venture into the Nature Reserve. Worth a trip up for the views and you can get a ticket for the cable car only. There is a small shop selling the usual fridge magnets and badges. Most of which I did not see in the gift shops in the City. There is a café and a restaurant. I recommend the restaurant. Café was probably ok but there did not not seem to be anyone eating there and no one noticing when possible customers were arriving. Managed short walk into the Nature Reserve and discovered more monkeys as I had bought the ticket that included the nature reserve. Worth going up to see the views and enjoy a meal, but if you issues walking on slopes take take a cable car ticket only then join a tour to access the Nature Reserve at a later date.

I expected a completely different experience, but (for the geographical position in the European continent) Gibraltar remains a must, not to be missed if you are travelling in the south west of Spain. The cable car is expensive (19 UK pounds for adults and 17 for over 65, meaning 21 euros) for a 6 minute ride return. But the alternative is walking on a sealed road, together with taxis: not a nice option! And in summer should be very hot ☀️ The advanced purchase of the tickets is absolutely necessary to reduce the visitor lines!

In my opinion, it should be explained at the ticket office that if you buy a ticket including a visit to the Nature Reserve, after visiting the cave and suspension bridge you have to walk back for about 30 minutes of steep climb. Alternatively continue to the other sites (castle etc..) on foot then descend to the city center. In the latter case then it is not advisable to also purchase the return by cable car. I also consider it a scandal that only the cable car to / r costs 19 pounds (22.50 euros) and with the visit to the Reserve 38 pounds (45 euros!!!!). Rich people's stuff!

Pre booked online but when we arrived the cable car wasn't working due to high winds . No apology or explanation of refund process etc.from staff . They simply pointed to a sign saying closed due to weather. lucky for us we were there 2 days so returned the next day. We were the first people there at 9.00am ( before the staff) who turned up a few mins later. They started doing testing on the car and then maintenance which meant the 9.30am start was delayed until 10.10am. by this time there were long queues behind us. The cable car station is dirty and needs updating but thankfully we were first up the rock so didn't spend any time there. At the top the restaurant was closed ,but there was takeaway coffee for sale . Staff were very rude and it was clear we were disturbing their chat and didn't want us there. The top cable car station and viewing areas are surprisingly dirty, and run down. It was raining whilst we were there and the footpaths were very slippery .. one area ( bottom of the ramp from the cafe) was marked with yellow pain but there were no signs as to any danger and no handrail. I observed 3 people slip and fall on the footpath in a matter of minutes ...it was very dangerous . Overall the caves and nature walk were interesting however so many people were complaining about how poor the signage was . We resorted to Google maps and asking other visitors to fund the varying attractions. This was quite poor form for such a significant tourist attraction . Ps: Tip, dont eat in the cave cafe ...staff were disinterested , Food was poor and expensive. Overall I was disappointed with how this tourist attraction was presented .. which is a shame as it could have been so much more
