洞爺湖町位於北海道西部，每年有 400 萬人次到訪此地。洞爺湖往南北 9 公里、東西是 11 公里，組成一個円形狀的湖，獲得日本火山口湖排名第三的美譽。湖町有洞爺湖温泉街，除了有一般的住宿設施之外，也有足湯、日歸溫泉等不同的溫泉設施可享用。2007 年洞爺湖高峰會議也集合 8 國元首，討論國際社會的議題。關於那次會議的內容，可以到訪洞爺湖高峰會議記念館。另外2000 年時，洞爺湖南邊位置發生過珠山噴火的情況，時至今日，遊客還可以沿路散步去參觀那個火山口。
