Powered by AI
The Village Hotel Southampton Eastleigh is often celebrated for its vibrant atmosphere, fueled by dynamic events and music, although this energy sometimes comes at the cost of tranquility due to gym-related noise. While the hotel's location is lauded for its proximity to cruise ports and shopping, some guests find it less convenient without personal transport.
Cleanliness stands out as a strong suit, with immaculate rooms and facilities. However, opinions on value and service are divided, with some guests finding the hotel a bargain and staff friendly, while others point to extra costs, disorganized service, and design issues in rooms, like glass bathroom doors, that compromise privacy.

Detailed Reviews
We booked this as a membership deal. We understood that we would get breakfast, lunch & dinner and a club room. On arrival we found the room quite small. The bedroom has a large king sized bed with bedside tables with 2 small drawers each side and a hanger rail for a few clothes and 3 hooks. There was a huge tv and one chair. The bathroom with see thru glass door is off to one side and has the only window. There was a towel bale with one bath sheet and one hand towel and a floor towel. This is for 2 people to share. Unimpressed! I asked to upgrade to a bigger room and was informed that every room in the whole hotel is the same & the same size. I had to live out of my suitcase which I slid in and out from under the bed. You then find out you have a daily allowance of £40 food per couple and can use it for lunch OR dinner, not both. You have to pay for anything used over this allowance. You do not get a daily maid service. You can ask for clean towels by putting your dirty ones on the floor outside your room. The evening meal food was superb but don't get me started on breakfast. You do not get greeted or feel valued. Breakfast at this hotel seems like a gigantic chore for them. The food is already cooked and kept warm in containers. They use cold plates to dish it out on. When the chef can be bothered to come out of the kitchen he asks what you want and plates it up. I didn't want bacon or sausages so just took the plain, made from powder, scrambled egg, 3 pieces of mushroom & tomato. I remarked on the small size of the breakfast expecting to get more of the food I wanted as I wasn't having meat but he just looked strangely back at me. Oh and the toast? Cheap thin sliced bread, probably from Asda next door, I wouldn't call it toast, but warmed bread. No one pays any attention to you in this restuarant, everyone seems very young and inexperienced in serving the public. They ask you to order any food & drinks on the hard to navigate App but the App can't cope with a booking done with a meal deal so they need to serve you for food. Trying to get their attention is really really hard work. I suggest taking a big flag to wave in the air. This hotel would probably suit sales people who will love it for the gym & pool but it's not really for holidaying couples like us who just want an enjoyable experience.

Have stayed at numerous village hotels over the years, and absolutely love them. Booked to stay at this new Southampton one for my other half’s birthday, so had high hopes that this would be as good as all the other ones. Arrived about 3.30 on the Friday and the receptionist was very welcoming and lovely, went to our room, which was lovely but bit disappointing as thought seen as it was the new build and a very small room would have the frosted glass divider that makes the room feel bigger, but obviously a little bit more basic than the likes of Portsmouth or Bristol, instead was met by a grey wall that just looked and felt like it was put up last minute, but maybe that was just how it was meant to be. Went down to the bar at 5pm to get something to eat, but was met by a not so friendly young lady who told us there was no tables and they were fully booked all night, but we could sit outside and order food and drink, ( restaurant only had 6 people at most in there) so we sat outside, other half went into get some ice about half n hr later and there was another couple speaking to same waitress and asking for a table, to which she said yes we have a table as long as you can leave at a certain time, why did she not offer us this, as there was quite obviously a whole restaurant of empty tables, we sat outside for a while but it was getting cold, (restaurant still with less than 15 people in) so ended up walking down to asda to get some munchies to take back to the room, on coming back there was still over half the restaurant empty, so can’t see why we couldn’t of got something to eat and left before the mad rush that they seemed to think was going to happen! All the other village hotels we’ve been to bend over backwards to ensure there guests feel special and have a great time, unfortunately this one didn’t seem to care. We went out next day and was a little bit surprised when we got back, that room hadn’t been cleaned, towels changed etc, that’s always just been a norm at the other village hotels, there’s no sign to hang on the door to say make room up, so they obviously just don’t bother, we hoped they would, as when we got there the complimentary shower gel was empty so thought they might actually fill it up, and we had used the teabags, so as they only put 2 in the room there was none for the next morning. Then we get to breakfast! so queue up, and again not the most friendly of staff, almost feels like your putting them out for wanting your breakfast so go down the line and then they let you know there’s no sausages, doesn’t bother me as I prefer bacon, but other half loves a sausage, so man dishing up apologizes and says he’ll bring them over, yeah ok, he’s behind a counter and hasn’t a clue where your sat, so why lie when he’s got no intention of actually doing what he says, breakfast really isn’t worth it to be honest, you could get bigger and better for half the price elsewhere! As previously stated love village hotels and have been to loads and have a few booked over the next few months, some of them ones we haven’t visited before and some that we’ve been to and loved so much that we’re going back, unfortunately I dont think Southampton will be one that we would go back to.

We stayed at the hotel for 3 days and the location is easy to get to with a car park. It’s next door to an Asda for any last minute essentials . The gym and pool were great. The rooms however were disappointing and more suited for a single person staying one night. There is no window in the bedroom although the bathroom does have a window which opens slightly. The rooms are also very small so you just about have enough room to walk around the bed.
There is a very clear glass door to the bathroom which was so impractical as we were travelling with teenage children. The maids M and C were great though and we were able to get extra bedsheets to cover the bathroom doors with!
The shower screen is very small so the floor gets wet. Ask for extra bath mats. There is only 1 small hook in the bathroom so either you put your towel on it or an item of clothing.
The bedroom contains a few hangers as opposed to a wardrobe and 3 coat hooks. On the plus side the room did have an iron, ironing board, hair dryer, large tv, tea making facilities and air conditioning.
Our visit to Southampton was good but I wouldn’t stay there again mainly because of the glass bathroom doors and the lack of a bedroom window.

Having been to many Village hotels was looking forward to visiting this new hotel. On entering our room was so disappointed it was dark, small and very claustrophobic. We asked to change to another room but apparently they’re all the same no windows only in the bathroom, so ended up in a disabled/easy access room, which had a small window and huge bathroom. There is no wardrobe just 4 knobs on the wall to hang your clothes, so you have to live out of your suitcase. A small table with a mirror to the left, good luck with trying to do your hair! There are no shelves to put your toiletries in the bathroom. As for the carpet, as in the photos thought it had bleach stains but this is how it is! The lighting is awful either all lights on or one small desk lamp. The breakfast is served to you due to covid but then you have to help yourselves to cereal, tea and coffee, so everyone is touching everything, the juice was orange and tasted watered down. Fry up or cereal were the only choices. Hardly anyone uses the hand gel and many were not wearing masks. People walk in and out using the gym and pool, again no one gels their hands. It feels like a gym with a hotel on top! The hotel is not near anything but an Asda so couldn’t go for a walk had to use the car everywhere. The hotel is ok for 1 night but not for any longer.

I really cannot get my head round Village Hotels, only using them if I cannot find any alternatives.
Only stayed here a night as I was working nearby.
They do some things well and other things leave me scratching my head.
They do contactless checking. There are staff available, but it is such a faff.
One consistent thing I find is cleanliness is not up to scratch. The rooms have so much extraneous 'stuff', it must be hard to keep it all clean. I always take a mini container of washing up liquid to clean cups. They never seem clean and on occasion I have been there and found drink marks where they have only been rinsed.
The bed is comfy and the tv is great. You can have a great sleep, but my bugbear in this particular hotel was the see through door for the bathroom. This is not the first Village hotel where I have seen this. What were they thinking when they designed this? If you are a couple and want any degree of privacy in the bathroom you are going to be disappointed. Although the main wall is opaque the door is fully see through.
Did not have any food although in the past this has been good.
They seem to be trying to be trendy for the bedrooms and all they have created is a cluttered and busy environment.
Final moan is £5 a night parking. Only payable if you are staying over 4 hours I think, so gym members, restaurant visitors get this for free. Hotel guests are subsidising everyone else.

Booked for four nights first week of opening on arrival first impression was great, check in went pretty okay with the help of a receptionist. Our room was on the 2nd floor over them Gym nice cosy small twin with hairdryer, kettle, cups & a very large T V on the wall. Towels & toiletry all okay in bathroom. Beds a bit firm but bedding was cosy & warm.
Breakfast was average service a little slow but it was there 1st week so perhaps more speedy training required.- Also got refused extra toast was told one slice of bread only??
Bar & Grill nightmare to get in always booked up so no chance for a casual drink we got turned away at 10.30 on the Sunday saying sorry we setting up for breakfast morning now. On arrival we was told to try after 9pm but was still turned away so we never got the chance to eat or drink in the bar &grill lucky for us there was a Asda next door so we got beers & wine plus sandwiches to have in the room instead not what we was expecting to do.
Never used pool or gym due to visiting Family & sightseeing around Southampton.
Weather was terrible so we decided to cut our stay on the last night after family meal out we got back to undress on hanging my top up on the hangers attached to a shelve with a iron on top of it the shelf decided to collapse with the iron just missing my partners head & the shelve collapsing on my hand and lower wrist which did hurt. My partner went to report straight away & the duty manager Michael came up with accident book he was devastated at the poor workman ship of this shelf due to it looked like a faulty screw or incorrect screws had been used, also we had to report the toilet had blocked and would not flush properly from the morning of that day. He was very polite & helpful & caring re my hand and has offered to book us 2 free nights stay at any village of our choice when we are ready in the future which was very nice of him.
Yes faulty towers at the moment but its like a new build house there will be building faults and we hope all get corrected & that all then shelves in all rooms tested for health & safety reasons.
Hoping the Bar / Grill staff will soon be on track with better service in weeks to come so hopefully no complaint from any guests.
Should we ever return to see family again we would still book here & hope our next stay will be more a pleasing experience for us both.

Thanks for the review - Sorry about the teething issues and I am glad you are going to take me up on the offer of a stay elsewhere by way of apology. I have asked the builders to stress test each of the shelves as a precaution; however, I am confident this is an isolated incident.

We have just got home from our stay at the Village Hotel Southampton, I'm a huge Village Hotel fan so I had to try out the new hotel!
Like the other recent new build Village Hotels the design is like a copy and paste to likes of; Bristol, Portsmouth and Basingstoke.
As mentioned in the title you can see the cutbacks Village Hotels have put into the hotel.
The rooms are very small and compact but great for the new Business Stay Village Hotels portfolio. We booked a club room and wouldn't pay the extra £30! The only extra you get with the Club room in the room is basically nothing, you used to get Daily Water, Tasimo Coffee machine, Sky TV and other cool add-ons. The shower pressure was very weak and the so called 'ESPA' Hand gel body wash and conditioner was the same shampoo and hand wash as the standard rooms.
We eat at the restaurant, food was nice but the restaurant was understaffed and service was slow.
The pool was nice, and changing facilities was clean.
Its unlikely that I would return but I can't wait for the new Village Hotel Bracknell to open.

Thanks for taking the time to review the hotels. It must have been some time since you last stayed! We found that in general the majority of our "club rooms" were given away for free. So, to attract more people to our fantastic booking platform, the booking revolution, we include all the amazing facilities like VWorks and Village Gym access with those rooms, we then upgraded ALL our rooms to espa toiletries and channeled sky into ALL our rooms and give everyone a great product. The "Club" room is now just a way for the online travel agents to offer their guests the amenities. Thanks for reviewing though.

Stayed one night (Saturday). Self check in was super efficient and the guy at the desk very welcoming. Had a room on the 4th floor, was very quiet and didn’t hear any noise from the gym as others have mentioned. Room was spotless and I had everything I needed (iron, hairdryer, toiletries, plenty of plug sockets and USBs). The bed was very comfortable. I was on my own for this stay but if I’d been sharing with my husband or a friend, the glass bathroom door would have been a problem! Didn’t have breakfast. Due to the timing we didn’t have to pay for parking and overall it was excellent value for money.

This is not a hotel. This is a 24hour GYM with a few rooms above
Everything is catered for the local paying gym member and hotel guests are sidelined to supplement the income. An example is that its self check-in, but yet there are tonnes of gym staff.
You cannot relax here. Do not book if you want to relax.
We booked this hotel specifically for the pool for the 14yo kids. There is no mention on Expedia or on the hotel website that kids are time boxed to just a few hours a day, so when we arrived they were turned away from the pool as they were 14. The pool is mainly for gym members and adult hotel guests only.
The major issue is that the Gym plays loud pumping bass-line music until 22:20 that shakes everything in your room, and then the weight lifting weights constantly being dropped onto the floor below until 11pm which shake the very fabric of the building, rattling everything in the room... and it started all over again at 7am. The gym is open all night so you take pot luck with whatever noise they generate throughout the night also!
As others have mentioned, the bathroom door is glass, so no privacy from other people in your room when doing a number 2 or showering.

We celebrated our 44th wedding anniversary at this Hotel last weekend, and were very impressed. It is very modern with superb facilities like a large gym, heated indoor pool with spa, steam room and sauna. Our bedroom was very comfortable and had A/C, but needs more hooks to hang your clothes, towels etc.
The staff are young and friendly, providing an excellent standard of service. Madalina in their Pub & Grill was particularly attentive, as was Joseph - both are a credit to the hospitality industry and we thank them both.
The only issue we had was not being told at check-out of our Final Invoice which had some incorrect charges. However, when I finally got through to Lorraine in their Accounts Dept, she very kindly corrected the problem.
If you book one of their deals that include meals, you are allowed £20pp and all drinks are extra which we usually paid for separately rather than charge it to the room as most guests would.
We really enjoyed our stay and will certainly return. For those who may be interested, there is a bus (No.1) that goes past the Hotel which takes you to Southampton in one direction and Winchester in the other direction.

Quite a way and nota walk.
Yep its free
The bathroom door is clear glass but if you were sitting on the bed you wouldn’t be able to see in. The basin is directly in front of the door so a little privacy.
