Detailed Reviews
We arrived late (drove from Port aux Basque sightseeing along the way) and kept missing the sign but as soon as we saw the welcoming house and lawn furniture and flowers, we knew that this stay would be special. We weren't disappointed. Doreen advised us to go to By the Sea at King's Point for supper YUMMY. Then we settled into our room with a beautiful quilt. Too tired for the wi fi or TV. The hot full breakfast was excellent. Then we were introduced to the ugly sticks and spoons and even sang. A great experience. Just sorry that we had planned only one night on our way to Twillingate and Fogo Island. Stay longer if you can. There are many things to do that we didn't take advantage of especially learning to cook a Jiggs Dinner. Next time will be different.

I stayed in Doreen's B&B for a night in August and she was so incredibly endearing and intelligent. She has the greatest stories and has such a big heart, which she shares with everyone. She performed traditional Newfoundlander music, using various unique instruments. Not to mention she made a wonderful breakfast for us the following morning. She knew I didn't eat gluten, so she made me a special breakfast and catered to my allergies; not many places will do that! Her place truly feels like a home away from home. I will definitely drive back to Springdale to pop in and say hello

Lovely, peaceful B&B!! Doreen was so welcoming and she made us the most delicious Jigg's Dinner in the evening! She also let us play her organ, and then she sang us Newfoundland folk songs while playing the "Ugly Stick" and told us wonderful stories. The Blueberry pancake breakfast in the morning certainly made it hard to leave! We went away feeling pampered, it was like leaving a weekend at home!

The Indian River Brook Bed and Breakfast near Springdale was a great place for my husband and I during our tour of Newfoundland. The house is in a quiet rural area. There is a comfortable sitting room to relax in. Doreen Canning was a friendly and helpful hostess. The best thing about the visit was her entertainment after breakfast, with Newfoundland songs and stories and music on the ugly stick. Lots of fun. The house is not far from King's Point which offers lots of things do, including the By the Sea restaurant (excellent chowder) and a wonderful hike on the Alexander Murray trail which took us four hours to complete but the view at the top was well worth the climb.

The B&B is located just off the Transcanada highway. Doreen was very friendly and efficient. The room was comfortable and quaintly decorated. Breakfast was very good but no selection was offered. After breakfast Doreen entertained us with some local instruments (ugly stick included) and local songs. Quite a nice touch. The sun room at the rear of the house was a pleasant place to relax. From time to time a moose ventures into the back yard so if you haven't seen one, you have a chance here. This B&B is worth a stop.

My wife and I had the pleasure of staying here for 5 nights early in July/17. The best way that I can describe staying here is imagine staying at a friend's place who happens to make awesome pancakes and is a great storyteller! Doreen was such an awesome host and I urge all that can to stay here before she retires so that you can experience true Newfie hospitality!
Since we were in Newfoundland for a family wedding, we didn't get too much time to explore this great province, but when we return, we're definitely going to be staying here again!

We stayed with Doreen at Indian River Brook B & B on July 10 and enjoyed every minute. She is very accommodating and we had sore faces from laughing with her and the other guests during the excellent playing of the Ugly Stick! The B & B is comfortable and in a convenient location. The breakfast was delicious and a work of art.
Doreen knows the area very well and has lots of information and ideas for you. We all went for dinner in nearby King's Point and took hundreds of photos of the iceburgs in the harbour. This is a really nice place to stay - in the middle of a trip across Newfoundland.

We recently stayed at the Springdale NL Indian Brook B and B. The room itself was fine (with en suite) but we were not very happy with the feeling of being at "home" or the breakfast.
Doreen asked us in the evening if we liked homemade pancakes and Ham. Three of the five people in our group did not like ham, so we expected her to say, I can do up some Bacon, or Sausage, or another choice.
In the breakfast the next morning, the two people that wanted ham, got pancakes and ham, the rest just pancakes (no other side dishes were offered)
At $ 120 a night (the most expensive of the nine B and B's we stayed at this trip, we expected better.)
Most B and Bs in Newfoundland, New Brunswick or Nova Scotia, offered us at least a choice, some of our group did not like poached eggs (most places served scrambled, which most people like), so they were always offered alternatives, and several of them offered two courses (often a yogurt cup with fresh fruit, and some extra toast, and others made to order eggs.
As soon as we arrived at the door, she had the receipt book out expecting us to pay, which we were certainly ready to do, but I felt it was a panic to do so, so I paid in the morning. When I offered to pay in the morning (which is generally when you settle your account) she said the mornings are really busy, lots of phone calls etc) but I insisted, and did settle up on the way out.
We also had a 16 year old with us, which she charged $ 20 for a cot, and teenagers generally don't each much at 8 am. Places charged usually $ 10 for her, and this is giving her a bed. A couple other places only had a cot available, and either charged us $ 10 or nothing.

From the moment we entered the front door to long after pulling out of the driveway, we were amazed with the warmth of Doreen and an incredible B&B experience. Kind-hearted and accommodating, Doreen and her beautiful establishment went far beyond what we expected for our first few days of our honeymoon. Everything possible was done to accommodate special needs, from making adjustments to meals, to allowing meals in the room and a never ending source of hope and encouragement. The B&B itself is nestled in the trees, away from the highway, offering peace and quiet for relaxation. Our room was quite comfortable and the stellar breakfasts prepared us for our travels around nearby Springdale and King's Point. We cannot wait to return for our first anniversary and once again be swept away by Doreen's vivacious hospitality!

Great location, 1 1/2 hr from DeerLake airport. Doreen runs a welcoming, clean and homey B&B. Lovely homemade quilts and entertainment by Doreen. Loved her songs with musical spoons, bouncy dancing man and her ugly stick! What a plus to end our trip. A tasty breakfast of blueberry pancakes topped with fresh fruit and yogurt made and served with a great smile by Cavell. I definetly would recommend this B&B
