Nestled amidst stunning natural beauty, Blyde Canyon, A Forever Resort, garners praise for its exceptional cleanliness, with guests consistently impressed by the pristine chalets and cabins. The friendly service and fair pricing contribute to its allure, despite some opinions about the food being average. While the rooms' ambiance and lighting receive mixed reviews, the scenic views and charming atmosphere are celebrated. The resort's location is a highlight, providing easy access to breathtaking hikes, although some amenities may need updating, and there are occasional concerns about the impact of load shedding on the experience.

Room lighting used a mix of cold eerie blue LED light bulbs and the pleasant warm yellow LED bulbs. Blue light is cold and creepy. We had to use candles. Please use only warm yellow LED lights. The cost is the same, but the experience completely different. The hotplates on the stove in the kitchen were also broken. The Canyon is a world heritage site. Incredibly beautiful, sacred. Please pay attention to the beauty of the room.

This resort did not disappoint. On our arrival at the gated and secured entry we were provided with keys and a map to our building. The resort is a sprawling facility of house style accommodations. Ours was a duplex style house so we had one side and the other was for someone else (who we could not hear at all).
Our domicile had a small living room, dining room, kitchen area that included a stovetop, refrigerator and microwave. The bathroom was large and the bedroom had a huge window with a great view. We were there in May and it was cold, however, the bedroom was equipped with a heating unit.
A semi short walk from our building and we were at a spectacular lookout position of the Blyde River Canyon. It was breath taking. There were also hiking trails (and a swimming pool and miniature golf) but were there for only one night and did not explore those options.
The restaurant was on the other side of the facility and it was very dark as we drove there. It was spacious and had a nice feel (and probably a nice view if it wasnt pitch black outside) but the food was simply average. The buffet may have been better but we ordered of the menu. Also, if you are coming from a city, you may be used to a faster pace. Where were were, things were slow including table service.
As we only had wifi at the restaurant, we drove there again in the morning and were treated to seeing about 20 baboons in the area around the restaurant. There was apparently fruit in some of the trees and they were also having breakfast.
Note: Do NOT feed the animals. It may seem cute or fun but they will become aggressive if it looks like you have something they want. Also be sure your cars is locked and the windows are up.
There is a gas station, small shop and an ATM where you turn to drive toward the resort.

The resort has some lovely views, able to see the Drie Rondavels from the viewing points and restaurant's lapa. Clean pool. The chalet was fully equipped but had a mat in all the bedrooms which made it smell like mould...
Overall, we enjoyed our stay.

We arrived at the resort on a Sunday morning and went to the camping area where we had booked a site. The sight that greeted us was a group of about 15 men sitting around a large fire making a great deal of noise and drinking heavily. We erected our tent as far away as possible. Later in the day the noisy group left with wheel spins and roaring engines. It appeared that management were either unable or unwilling to implement the rules of the resort. Other campers told us that the group had been there since the Friday afternoon and they had got very little sleep over the weekend. Some of the chalets would also have been affected by the noise as they are above the camping area.
The ablution Block B was also a problem. In the gent's, a urinal did not flush and the entire room stank of urine. There was no liquid soap in the dispenser nor paper towel in either the lady's or gents. The hand sanitizer dispenser in the gent's was broken and there was not one at the lady's. At a time of Covid, this is totally unacceptable. My wife reported that there was no hot water on Sunday evening nor Monday morning when she showered.....maybe others had got in first.
As a result of these problems, we departed after only one night and were happy to be on our way. We reported all these issues to reception on our departure.
On a positive note, the pool appeared sparkling clean as were the other outside areas. The views of the Three Rondavels from the view site were as good as we remembered.

Enjoyed a 4 night stay in twin bed chalet.
Nicely situated not too far from major attractions but remote enough to have a very peaceful feel.
Resort is quite old but has a quiet charm. Rooms are decent size and bathroom was up to standard.
Hiking trials are quite good and very well marked. Enjoyed dip in natural pond. Leopard trial specifically had some loose rocks and not much shade. Guinea fowl route was great just some steep climbs. We hiked 7km on the one day and 10km on another not repeating much, so plenty to see really great views!
Put put course was in good condition just slightly dirty with leaves.
Enjoyed some tennis as well. Need a booking system maybe.
We did not eat at the restaurant but it looks amazing, appears well managed and had a wide selection of food at buffet. Can also select food from the menu.
The shop at the entrance has basically everything you need so you don't have to leave the resort to stock up.
I think slightly expensive for two people but good value for four people. Some units don't have a lounge but it did not bother us as we were out of the chalet most of the time.
Great sitting on the patio every night, surprisingly no mosquito's or flies!

Staff is great and in general the experience met our expectations.

The chalets are modern, clean, and spacious. It is a long walk to reach the chalets or to access the restaurant, activity areas and reception. If you have a car, this is not a concern. The views are fabulous. You can walk to the upper viewpoint to see the three rondavels. There are small short trails to reach to restaurant, BRING A FLASHLIGHT to return to your chalet. There are laundry facilities and after walking all the way down to the reception to purchase a token, I was told that they machines are free !!!! Happy to get the exercise... There are baboons on the property so see that the windows and doors shut behind you. The restaurant servers were eager to please, food was average and reasonably priced.

The resort could not have a better location. It provides access to the best trails in Blyde Canyon, in particular, to the Leopard and Kadishi Tufa trails. Unfortunately, this enormous advantage makes of this place a monopoly with few incentives to improve. Firstly, you should know that this is a gigantic place offering camping and room services for a very large population of tourists. We stayed at cabin #74. It looks like the room hasn't seen an uplift in decades, but that's not an issue for us. We are also aware of the affordability of this price, so this is expected. But the food... it's barely preferable to hunger. I can honestly say, without a bit of exaggeration, that the Kadishi restaurant is one of the worst 3, if not the worst, I have ever been to. Nothing is good. Not even the coffee. We ordered a cheesecake. Terrible. We gave them a second opportunity with the dinner buffet. The chicken was bad, so we tried the beef. Then we realized that the chicken was the star of the menu. The side dishes, vegetables, potatoes, rice, everything was cooked with no soul. In general, that's how I feel about the resort. No soul. No love. Looks like a government operation. With so much potential, it's a shame that they don't do something truly outstanding with this place. Perhaps it's the sheer size of the grounds, which look not ideal from an economic perspective. Whatever it is please fix it. Change management. Do what is needed. Treat tourists with respect.

There are 2 viewpoints on the property. The upper viewpoint is best. We drove to the different parts of the resort. We left a toilet window open for no more than 30 mins. A baboon entered opened the toilet door and made its way to the kitchen and started enjoying a loaf of bread. That was scary. The bathrooms have mould on the ceiling and the grout groves. Domestos was purchased at the convenient store to help me clean the place up.
Must takes:
Laundry detergent. The laundromat is free to use.
Shower slippers
Incense sticks or scented candles.
Bug repellent.
Wi-Fi router. Chalets don’t have WiFi.

Restaurant food doesn’t seem freshly cooked everyday. On the Tuesday evening we were served left overs from Monday. We ordered ala carte which was average.

Staff are friendly. The overall look and feel is very dated.

Pool felt slimy at the bottom.

The positives are that the staff are very friendly and helpful, the grounds are nicely kept with a lovely pool and you have access to a stunning view point. In the evening we sat there for an hour watching the changing colours and then were able to watch the sunrise all on our own.

The bungalow was dated but clean.

Now for the negatives. We booked here as it had good self catering facilities, which it does, however due to load shedding the power was off from 5pm to 9.15 pm and all the equipment was electric. Plug in 2 ring Electric Hob, electric kettle and no lighting . All we were provided with was 2 candles and a box of matches.
Load shedding is not new and will not end for a long time so why not provide you with a 2 ring gas hob instead? Or do what they do in the Kruger and have a generator on site that provides the huts with power.

We went to the restaurant as this was now the only option. The buffet is R200 per person for all you can eat including coffee so you won’t go hungry, but the food was average at best. Buffet breakfast was R180 per person.

Awesome hiking trails, stunning viewpoints and great mid-central location to the various waterfalls Mpumalanga has to offer. All the staff are so friendly and warm.

Lots of activities onsite i.e putt-putt, tennis, hikes, swimming pools (cold). Perhaps could use tighter security to monitor the noise levels and inconsiderate guests when rules are not adhered to.

Overall- Great experience and place to get out into nature.

Hi, Other than those with a specific view of the canyon, all other rooms look out onto the gardens so I don't know what the specific difference would be. Those with a canyon view are the bigger units.

You can see the Blyde River Canyon from a number of viewpoints, but all will costs a few rands. The Forever Resort provides a good viewpoint and many great walks. 10 min drive down the road you can see the Rondawels and Sentinel from a different and higher spot. This is accessed for about R20 per person and is very popular with tourists

The Forever Resort Blyde Canyon is not the place to stay of to access the canyon. The property is located at the top of the ridge overlooking the canyon. Access to the canyon for boating, etc is on the opposite side of the canyon. Try Swadini A Forever Resort instead.
