Wonderful lighting system Friendly Staff Good food However the hotel can arrange the tours to nearby places,to the beach. The hotel should provide a map of the hotel to all guests because I could not locate the gym until I went to physically enquire at the reception. I was celebrating my birthday but the hotel system did no recognize that .I was expecting at least a happy birthday message.

The property is so beautiful! My fiancé and I did our prewedding shoot here and it was amazing! The staff were so supportive, honestly the best staff ever. A huge shout out to Ali. The couple spa massage was also a great experience, definitely recommend. The only recommendation I’d have for the property is a bigger shower and bathroom. I stayed in the standard premium room!

The accomodation is very amazing and the food is very nice. The service is excellent. However, when we went to the airport, the driver dropped us in the bureau de change to look for dollars. We missed either the dollar and the flight. We had to stay at airport for 18 hours waiting for another one. Advice: Tell always your drivers to wait for your clients until they get in airport and make sure that they have took the flight.

Very lovely ambience, neat, quiet surroundings , wonderful breakfast spread and lovely staff. I highly recommend. The weekend evening buffet and life band performance was also a plus for me. 20 mins from the airport is just your best bet..

The grounds look beautiful but on closer inspection there are many problems. We came to this hotel for our honeymoon we are leaving deeply disappointed. On arrival to the hotel we were given no information on where anything was in the hotel. Gym, spa, restaurants or info on facilities we had to work it out ourselves. Still don't know where the gym is?! Male staff are not really pleasant, they just stare and stare at you not even smiling. There's security at the front entrance they are nice and polite but once your inside the hotel, the lobby area there are men above and to the side just staring at you, no smiles just staring. Makes it a bit uncomfortable. The beach is absolutely filthy. There are old tyres and lots of empty plastic bottles along the beach, it's filthy. The hotel has a lot of male staff standing around staring at you, I don't understand why they have not utilised the staff to clean the beach?! We wanted to use the beach but it was too dirty. The pool is also dirty and aged had broken drainage. The time we were here I did not see one guest go inside the pool. Also be careful of the bridge it is very dangerous when wet, it slopes backwards?! Everything is charged in dollars, even though you are not American. On arrival we were NOT informed we could not bring outside food and drink into the hotel. We went to stone town and brought a few snacks back with us, on our arrival staff stood there staring hard at us. We did not understand but put 2 and 2 together. We went to our room took out the hotel hand book and had a read. No food or drink allowed on the premises. No one told us this. After finding this out we didn't do it again. It's $20 per buffet meal per person. Food at the hotel was average. Breakfast buffet was very basic. If a hotel doesn't want guests to bring food in they need to be able to provide what guests need. We wanted chocolate, crisp and sweets one evening there is no shop within the hotel and no shop locally to purchase anything. I even went to order a cake from restaurant, they don't provide a basic sponge cake, muffin or anything similar. We are on holiday we want to enjoy ourselves. The location is not great, there is nothing in walking distance so bear that in mind. It's $20 to get a taxi up the road, 10 min drive. It just felt like all they more interested in is extracting dollars from you. No real customer care, if your having a good time, if your needs are met. Also our room was dated. Glad to be leaving

Not value for money” Charge in dollars with poor conversion rate , as you walk in there's men walking around like it's a military compound , not a smile in sight. Unpleasant , unwelcoming atmosphere. Need more women at reception to give a soft pleasent feel , too many men walking around doing absolutely nothing and looking like security. pool side is dirty & unkept , pool looks like it hasnt been cleaned in years , very little poolside maintainance . The Hotel Beach is one of the worst beaches I've ever seen in my life , was dirty, litter everywhere, and unkept, took one look and ran in the opposite direction. Have no idea why the hotel has made no effort to clean up disgusting beach . The breakfast menu was underwhelming, nice desserts were nonexistent. The local area is a ghost town , went for a walk to find a fruit Market and came back with nothing because the local area is extremely impoverished. I thought I'd find mangos and nice orange's, but came back empty handed . Locals are nice, but area is painfully poor , so has nothing to offer close by. I bought water and fruit back from Stone Town , Staff stared at me & my wife as they wanted to bleed us dry of every penny like a casino . The pool has an overarching bridge which was wet and is extremely dangerous in its design , more about looks than safety. Not child friendly in its design , nor for pregnant women, neither , you couldn't pay me to go back to that hotel .

Excellent hotel in great location We used TA to choose hotel for our stay in Zanzibar as we were unsure in what location on the island to base ourselves As it worked out we were very pleased that we chose the Medinat Al Bahrain as our base. Excellent hotel, very quiet - in fact sometimes we felt as if we had the place to ourselves. Good food, great buffet breakfast and two restaurants to choose from on site. Conveniently located not far from airport especially after long connecting flight via Dubai ($10 cab fare) and same distance into Stonetown ($10 cab fare) Small public beach attached to hotel and a nice restaurant (Wooden Table) 100yds along beach After experiencing Stonetown we were glad that we stayed slightly out as the town is very busy and some hotels we first looked at could be hard to find down inaccessible (by vehicle) alleys. We did visit on a couple of occasions to do the walking tour and restaurants (Cape Town Fish Market - see separate review) - again location of hotel made visiting easy and there were a number of restaurants/bars that we could also have visited given the time. The hotel was also a good base for visiting other parts of the island which we did through Alsa Tours Zanzibar (reviewed separately) Issa (the concierge) arranged for us to meet Abdul (the owner) from Alsa Tours at the hotel who was our guide/driver for the tours that we did - prices were good and very competitive with other tour operators and more personal as tours in most cases were private We did (all reviewed separately): The North - Turtle Sanctuary/Kendra beach West - Spice Farm/Prison Island/Walking tour of Stonetown East - Butterfly Sanctuary/Jozani Forest/The Rock Restaurant South East - Safari Blue - boat trip/snorkelling/beach bbq Would say that the hotel was a great choice hotel was maticulously clean and the staff always friendly helpful and accommodating which made for a perfect stay Would highly recommend to any travellers to Zanzibar

We were carried here when our flight was cancelled at the gate. The hotel is less than 10 minutes from the airport (further than the Golden Tulip but much more authentic and less corporate) so is super convenient. The staff were very experienced in dealing with passengers who have had cancellations - the front of house team were excellent. Issa was especially helpful and his efforts to ensure we were supremely comfortable were outstanding. Thank you. The Hotel Pool and Pool Team are very good too and the Wifi was excellent.
