Our group of 6 close friends from across the world got together and stayed 9 nights at this beautiful and private beach resort. The staff was incredibly kind and welcoming. Nicole was so helpful when my wife and I were booking a day safari to Selous. I really loved how relaxed and Pole Pole (Slow Slow) everything was! I would highly recommended this resort. Thanks for a memorable experience Nicole and the Baladin Staff! Jon and Kayla

Hotel's Favourite
We had amazing stay at Baladin Zanzibar after 4 day safari. We were picked up from Stone Town by driver organized by Baladin and received a warning welcome by Nicole. She introduced our lovely “room” Giza, it was absolutely lovely to have our own little house on the beach for a week. I especially appreciated the cleanliness, fresh sheets and towels. Pool towels were also changed frequently. We ate most of our meals at the Baladin restaurant, Chapati roll and tempura shrimps were kids favorites with zuzuzu and Tangawisi. Big thanks to Baladin for making my Birthday a memorable one, I had breakfast in bed, a sunset dhow cruise and lovely dinner at the “tower”. Thanks for everyone who took part in the celebration and helped out eating the cake. We also enjoyed the excursions organized by Baladin. Spice tour and shopping in Stone Town, snorkeling with starfish and the kayaks, although one of kayak’s had no fin so we ended up doing a lot of circles 😂 We reported that when returning so I assume that is fixed by now. The massages were great too, I had several. Big thanks also to Rashid for giving Billiard tips for my son, he really got into the game. The Tangawizi survived the home journey and awaits to be enjoyed with the next game of billiards. Asante sana!

Just a fabulous experience and aura you get when you arrive. Pingwe Beach and this hotel are perfect for each other. You can see the beautiful moon kissing the water but also some of the best sunrises are there as you can enjoy one of the many sitting arrangements or walk on the beach. The property is awesome, and the rooms are really nice. Very cozy and home felt vibe. I absolutely love the bench bedding outside that gives you a chance to unwind in front of your room while enjoying a beautiful view. The staff is pleasant and nice. I love the welcome drink too. Also, for the romantics or for those who enjoy posh things, do the pool breakfast! Great location and close to a big time restaurant, The Rock. Just a fair warning, they don't want paper in the toilet but it doesn't detract from the room.

We stayed at the BALADIN Zanzibar in Jan 2024 for 9 nights. We absolutely loved our stay here and can’t recommend it enough! Honestly the only bad thing about it is that you won’t want to leave! The hotel has 12 rooms- 8 standalone bungalows and 4 suites in a block that face the sea. We were in Jua, which was an upstairs room. The view was amazing and it was nice to have a private enclosed balcony. Because the hotel is so small, you get pretty much daily checkins with the manager Nicole. Nothing is too much trouble and everyone is so lovely. Before our stay at the BALADIN we spent 2 nights at a 5* hotel (that was twice the price) which was now where near as nice as BALADIN. I’m splitting the review into sections to make it easier to read. FOOD: The food was truly exceptional- a highlight of our stay. We chose BALADIN partially due to its proximity to other nice restaurants (as we have a tendency to get bored quickly eating from the same menu each night). But the food at BALADIN was so lovely that we only actually dined elsewhere on 1 of our 9 nights. Everything is made to order (including breakfast) meaning you sometimes have to wait a bit (but never for long). This was another selling point for us as we have had some bad experiences with buffets in the past. The freshly baked, warm brioche served at breakfast is reason enough to stay here. Across the 9 days we tried pretty much everything on the menu, and can confirm it is all delicious. You can also order lobster (1-2 days in advance), and it is much cheaper than what other restaurants in the area were charging). There were decent vegetarian options, including pasta and pizza. There were things that a vegan could eat but not a huge selection. The chef is super accommodating though and they are happy to make substitutions etc. to meet people’s dietary requirements. BAR/DRINKS: BALADIN was originally a brewery, and so all the ales and beers served at the hotel are imported from their own brewery in Italy. Juices, smoothies and cocktails are all made to order and extremely affordable (£6 for a cocktail, £1.50 for a Coke) Good wine selection, though the wine menu is not 100% up to date to might be worth checking with your server what is available. If you don’t finish a whole bottle one evening they are happy to keep it in the fridge for you for the next day. ROOM: The suites all have a large double bed and a single bed. Both have mosquito nets. Rooms were bright and clean and aircon worked well. Shampoo and shower gel are provided and you can purchase conditioner if you forgot to pack any (like we did!) for $6. Housekeeping came every day and towels replaced as requested. Laundry service was very affordable ($1 per item and socks and underwear were free). 1 day turnaround time. Bathroom has a big bathtub with an overhead shower, though not at full height (I am 5ft 5 and had to crouch slightly). I believe the bungalows have full height showers so maybe if you’re v. Tall you would prefer a bungalow. Doors between room and bathroom are made of glass, which isn’t the best if you want some privacy to use the toilet. Didn’t bother us but thought I’d mention so people are aware. POOL: This boutique hotel was truly amazing, and we really loved our time here. The intimacy of the hotel means that you don’t have to worry about getting a sun bed etc. The pool is around 1.5m deep and is a semi circle with an infinity style that looks out over the beach. You can order drinks and food to enjoy by the pool. BEACH: The beach is public, and the first time you step onto it you will be accosted by sales people and children asking for money/sweets. Unfortunately that is what will happen on any beach in Zanzibar. If you say no thank you and don’t engage they quickly learn to not bother with you. During our stay we say some guests give some sweets and from that moment on whenever they stepped onto the beach they were swarmed (it’s also not good for their teeth as the children often don’t clean their teeth etc.) Beach is sandy with some seaweed and small stones. Absolutely fine to walk on in bare feet. The sea is so blue! The clearest I have ever seen (very Instagrammable) TRIPS/EXTRAS: I had 3 massages during my stay and they were all good massages at a reasonable price. We did several excursions during our stay and we arranged them all via the hotel. We arranged after we had checked in and it was very simple to sort. Another big bonus of this is that all the trips will be done privately, meaning you can spend as little/long as you want on the activities. Our trips were: 1. Snorkelling and starfish Picked up from the beach right in front of the hotel. Snorkelling was very good, equipment is provided. It was amazing to see the starfish, but we have since learnt that they shouldn’t be taken out of the water, as lots of them die from suffocation or shock. If your guide offers to grab some for you and put on the boat I would think carefully about this and the potential environmental impact. 2. Sunset traditional Dhow boat Wear your beach clothes. We stupidly got changed into dinner clothes and they immediately got drenched and we were too hot. Really good experience even though boat was quite cramped. You end up at a bar for drinks to watch the sunset. Kae funk is a beach party vibe and the mangrove bar is more quiet/chilled. We went to kae funk but I think we would have preferred the mangrove bar. 3. Mnemba island snorkelling and dolphin spotting We really enjoyed this. We followed a large family of dolphins and it was incredible to get so close to them in the wild. The waves were quite choppy on the north of the island and my husband got a bit seasick. Mnemba island is a private island and so you can’t actually go into the island, instead you go to the sandbank near by for snorkelling. The water was so blue and clear. We didn’t realise until we were leaving for this trip, but you actually drive in a car to the north of the island. It takes about 90 mins each way. If we had known this I think we would have made more of a day of it and done some other stuff on the north of the island- maybe the turtle conservatory. I’ve tried to include stuff that I thought would be helpful to future/potential guests. But if you take one thing away from this long winded review- we really loved our stay here and would 100% recommend it to people wanting a more intimate and laid back Zanzibar experience.

Beautiful location with white sand beach and clear ocean waters! The hotel is also beautiful, quiet, relaxing with open air areas and walking paths in a natural setting. We loved the simplicity of the white rooms with earthly decorations, everything complemented the beach setting. Our room had an amazing ocean view through the floor to ceiling windows. The same amazing ocean views can be enjoyed from the restaurant and other lounging spots. It is a small hotel, so it has a cozy feel...like a small bungalow village by the sea. Nicole and Rashid were very welcoming and friendly along with all their staff. The food was delicious and they brew their own beer. We came here after a safari on the mainland and we couldn't have asked for a better or more beautiful place to relax and finish a memorable trip to Tanzania! We didn't feel the need to leave the hotel other than to tour Stone Town. Another good thing worth mentioning is that they provide you with a reusable water bottle and unlimited refills for just $5 dlls. We appreciated this detail because it shows this hotel's commitment to protecting the environment.

We spent a few days in this hotel but our stay was really great. Apart from the excellent management who are very helpful and the super staff, they have the best Italian cappuccino in the whole of Zanzibar. Also, the pool is so great you won't want to leave. There are several cottages and 4 suites, we spent us stay in two of the cottages, both were good but one of them was already showing slight wear and tear but it was nothing that would spoil our stay here. We really enjoyed our stay and can only recommend this hotel.

Very nice hotel, the individual cottages have an older feel, but the pool is amazing and has a very good aura. Breakfast and coffee are excellent, dinner also, there are Italian dishes so one has a nice change if one is in Zanzibar for a longer time and changes hotels, the staff is very nice and helpful, the management also. The quality corresponds to the price.

It was a lovely place, located on quiet beach. With just 12 rooms, its perfect for a quiet getaway. The aesthetics are very nice, coming from an Italian owner. The food was superb, especially for Vegetarians, which can be a little difficult to find in Zanzibar, but to top it all, their craft beer was out of the world. Didn't expect such amazing craft beer.

We stayed at the property only one night but the experience was unique. The bungalow was spacious with a side view on the ocean and a very detailed decoration. The common areas were always clean and quiet. Perfect for relaxing on the "infinity" pool by the private beach. The food and drinks were definitely the highlight Do not forget to try their special mixed grill ;) Personally, I'd strongly recommend to young travellers (especially if you're looking for some instragrammable details ;)
