Herdade do Freixial is a call for peace where, in late afternoon, you can hear the singing of nightingales and the croaking of frogs as part of the background melody. The pool and cascading waterfalls are perfectly attuned with the surrounding nature. Here is where the wild nature of the Alentejo coast presents all its uniqueness.

The Herdade do Freixial is an excellent tourist accommodation to stay. It has a swimming pool, a jacuzzi, bikes, motorcycle 4, among others. The landscape is very beautiful and the place itself is very well presented. The staff is attentive and the food that they serve is very tasty and varied. I absolutely recommend, specially, because it is very peaceful.

This is a tranquil 'eco-lodge' situated just outside the pretty Alentejo seaside town of Vila Nova de Milfontes, so your own transport is really needed (there is plenty of parking). The staff, both on check-in and departure, were very friendly and efficient, spoke excellent English and could not do enough for us. The rooms are beautifully and simply decorated, with modern bathrooms. All are on single level, one 'row' have their own small terrace with table and two chairs; the other row has a large terrace, with table, chairs, a deckchair and hammock. The grounds are well laid out, with a clearly marked footpath down to the breakfast room, which is beside the beautiful 'infinity' pool, with a jacuzzi and plenty of good quality sunbeds. There was also a lower terrace with a children's pool and slide, and more sunbeds. All of this area is built so that guests can sit and appreciate the wonderful views over to the river estuary, and sit and listen to the birdsong etc. Breakfast was included, and was beautifully presented as a self-serve, with cereals and yoghurts, freshly squeezed orange juice, a selection of coffees and teas, cold meats and cheese, homemade pastries, breads, croissants, preserves and cakes. All delightful, and being able to sit and enjoy the serene atmosphere and tremendous views made our visit extra special.

Herdade do Freixial is simply home away from home! We've been here around Easter and I have to say we had selected it more for location than other (no reviews on Tripadvisor ..)

Well, I have to say that although it was not the simplest thing to get there from Sesimbra after our Easter lunch, once we got there we really didn't want to leave for the following destination

Getting to the details:
- the rooms are very big and cosy, there is a huge flat screen in each of them with a blu-ray reader if you want to pick up (for free) a dvd at the reception and relax for a couple of hours
- the swimming pool/breakfast area has a stunning view on the river valley underneath and the whole complex is immersed in a bucolic and relaxing atmosphere, btw the swimming pool is an inifity one
- the breakfast is very rich and the best part is that it's served until 11am, now this is finally a hotel which understands that you are on holiday!
- the manager has just the right list of restaurants where you may want to have lunch or dinner, for every price range

We stayed as a family of 9 in 2 apartments and 2 rooms for 6 nights. It was the 4th year that we stayed in the region in locations on the upper end of the spectrum (approx. 270€ per night/room). Our expectations were high due to the great website and the price we paid for it.

Overall we were quite disappointed with our stay, as the experience did not match what was announced. Being fair, some aspects were positive:
- The location – close to Vila Nova de Mil Fontes, services, restaurants and beaches.
- The view and balance with the surrounding nature.
- The friendliness and diligence of the staff.
- The swimming pool layout.
- The breakfast.

Unfortunately these did not make up for the rest. We were frustrated by several negative points:
- Facilities in overall poor condition and degraded, some posing risks to customers (example: stairs with broken boards and loose screws and full of splinters).
- Treehouse space inoperative and destroyed.
- Most of the grass dried and arid.
- Rooms with furniture needing repairs, and one incident with water leak in one bathroom.
- Low standard for the cleaning service, only doing the bed and not vacuuming properly the rooms.
- One incident with cockroaches in one of the bathrooms with rotten furniture under the sink.
- Multiple services unavailable - poolside bar permanently closed, no yoga classes, no food delivery service by surrounding restaurants.

We complained to the management and they were quite receptive to our criticism, and we were reimbursed in 10%, promosing us that they would work on all the points above.

We were told that they were operating since 2010, and the biggest problem of this property is that the Website is showing it during its glory days, more than a decade ago. We felt deceived, as there is a blatant desinvestment in maintenance and services by the management at the expense of the customer. We paid premium, and we were expecting premium; instead we got below average standards which you can find for a third of the price.

I really hope they can turn it around for the survival of their business and the friendly staff who are working there.

Perfectly located, simple but with all you need. The service was smiling and prompt. Quiet and with stunning view from the jacuzzi and infinity pool. I really didn’t want to leave and I really want to come back. For at least a week.

Bad points: so,so many unfortunately. Well off the beaten track. Even the locals don't know where it is. Not a hotel, more like a ranch. Rooms are in single storey blocks converted from farm buildings. Our room backed onto the other block just 2 metres away. Lovely view of a wall and roof tiles! Could not check-in before 4 pm. Can't have breakfast before 9 am. Would not allow us to change rooms to something not hemmed in. No restaurant on site so always have to eat out in town unless you want to buy a pizzaa and eat it in a dark and boring room! Room was small, rustic style and basic. Bed was small and uncomfortable. Have to use the car all the time 'cos even the town is too far away to walk. I could go on but won't.
Good Points: Our room was next to reception so we had free wifi. Down the hill to the pool you get a good high point view down the river. Nice ( small ) infinity swimming pool. Snack bar by the pool open sometimes. The local beaches are really good and some pretty good restaurants near or on the beach front. Spectacular sunsets over the coast. That's it!

This B&B has such a splendid view from the poolside. It is overlooking the river for a big distance. The pool is great with a green grass field and there is also a pool for small kids. The breakfast is enjoyble with croissants and very good breadrolls. Though I missed an egg...
The rooms are comfortable but a bit noisy. Villa Nova has Many Nice restaurants such a Choupana at the beach for fresh seafood or tasca do selso for really good Food. They have a good vegetarisme dish for of missed Your veggies.

The room/apartment was quite spacious and the outside patio was quaint and relaxing. It's a quiet place, perfect to unwind. The location is also very handy and accessible, and the property is lovely, with a beautiful view of the hills, the river and the surrounding countryside. The pool and sauna are very nice and the esplanade bar adds a refreshing touch, it's indeed lovely to just sit outside and soak in the sun.
However... the room amenities were very scarce and the second bed (sofa bed) was terrible, I had better nights sleeping on the floor than in that thing. I travelled with a group and had a reservation for four, but the aforementioned sofa-bed had to be added upon our request after we checked-in and were shown to our room, as the property forgot to arrange it prior to our arrival. They also forgot about towels and bathroom toiletries - there were only enough for 1, we had to specifically ask for more and even then we only got the extra towels. The breakfast was disappointing, frozen reheated bread and sliced cheese was not what we were hoping for, in the heart of Alentejo, for the price we paid. Overall, we might consider coming back if changes are made. It was a shame really, we were looking forward to our stay there so much!

We had a nice apartment that was clean but a bit shabby. A few ants in the bed...It was billed as having available cycling, hiking and kayaking. We were a bit off season but found there was only a short walk to the river. There was no cycling available unless you want to take your life in you hands on the roads. We were hoping for trails, ecovia type so were disappointed we had no options for expoloring other than by car. We stayed rural to get some excercise...There was no wifi available despite what they say. The woman who made and served breakfast was so nice and her cakes were the best we had. Mattress and linens need updating. There is a jacuzzi but it is pool temp-not warm!
