Detailed Reviews
The hotel is easily found off the Road from Cagliari to Pula and has a nice supermarket, a couple of pizzerias and a cafe in walking distance. Ample car parking on site and next door, would recommend hiring a car., it is well suited to the road network to explore the south of the island. The grounds are very nice, lovely pool, large spacious rooms with comfortable beds and good but compact shower and air con. Possibly closer to three than four star, toiletries a bit limited but staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast was decent, there is an onsite restaurant which you need to book although the a la carte menu doesn’t change at the moment. Pool view rooms have the best views. Pool use requires a bathing cap which you can buy there, pool also does refreshments. Only two floors high but they do have a lift. Would happily return.

Given how friendly and helpful were the staff, I really wanted to rate the hotel higher. It is spotlessly clean if rather outdated. Other reviewers have said like and old people’s home and I know what they mean. Garden is huge and well maintained. But I see today the price is £217 a night, which is absolutely ridiculous. The location is odd, in the middle of a housing estate although there are good places to eat nearer the beach. The pool doesn’t ‘open’ until 10am so a pre breakfast swim is out of the question. It closes for an hour in the afternoon I guess for the lifeguard’s lunch but most of the time they are busy with other stuff so Lord knows how essential they are? The breakfast is adequate. But the most annoying thing is they hire out sun beds at weekends to external visitors. And reserve them for them. Whilst hotel guests (paying £217 a night!!!!) aren’t allowed to reserve a bed. Given the garden is so huge, it’s not beyond the wit of man to provide sufficient beds for all. They really should sort this out. It’s grotesquely unfair. Oh and lastly, get some decent pillows and allow 2 per guest!!! So I had a nice time, but can’t recommend this place. Certainly not at current prices.

Dear AwandGC, we are sorry that the stay has not found the full satisfaction. With the new COVID19 regulations we cannot put more than a few sunbeds in the pool due to the space we have to guarantee between the beds and, during your stay, we had exactly 60 sunbeds in 71 rooms. External guests pay the daily entrance to the pool but do not have a reserved sunbed but we keep them occupied if they go to lunch or move to the bar: it is not correct if, as soon as someone gets up, someone else takes their place. We take his advice to put two pillows per person in the room, but if he had asked at the reception he would have had them immediately, just as any other request would have found the staff at his disposal. Let us write a note on the rates: we do not have seasonal rates, but they vary according to the type of room, the time of booking, the period of stay. Obviously, when you booked these factors influenced and meant that you had a very high rate: I imagine that, if you wanted to spend less, you would not have found much around because we are among the best 4-star hotels with the best value for money. of the south south coast. In any case, we take every critical as a starting point to improve and offer a better service, so thank you for pushing us to improve! Best regards,

This hotel is 11 k from Cagliari and you should understand this when you book. If you have your own car it is an easy drive to Cagliari centre, it is also convenient for the airport, and for tourism to the West of Cagliari.
The hotel is basic but entirely satisfactory. UK customers would equate it with a Travelodge or Premier Inn but better.
Our 'superior' room was a good size, updated, and with a good, firm, king size bed.
There is a mini-bar. The kitchenette facility is sealed up, probably permanently which is a pity. There is no kettle in the room. Good air-con. Clean
The swimming pool is large, pleasant, clean, and supervised.
The front desk staff are extremely helpful with good English.
The restaurant is busy with tour groups and noisy. We ate out for dinner on each of our four nights. The breakfast is just OK; plentiful, but the ham is cheap. the juice from a machine, and the coffee average.
There are some restaurants close by, mainly fast food/pizza and a Michelin rated seafood restaurant which we didn't visit because it appeared excessively expensive. We strongly recommend 'Arcadia' for which you need a car, and L'Altro Cielo which is just about walkable.
The surrounding area is natural/reclaimed wetland and twitchers will be interested in the flamingos close by.
Our stay was very satisfactory

The staff here are amazing, so friendly and helpful. Our room was a family room which consisted of a double room with interconnecting door to a twin room. Beds are really comfortable and the balcony overlooked the lagoon where we could watch the flamingos. Good choice of breakfast, the pool was warm and no problem finding sun loungers. The hotel itself was clean and comfortable with air conditioning throughout. I couldn't recommend this hotel enough. Location wise it is next to a mini mall with a supermarket, cafe, clothes shop, restaurant and other shops. It is walking distance to a beach however the beach is not the greatest especially compared to other beaches in Sardinia. About 20 minutes to the airport it is close to Cagliari for other shopping and restaurants and bars. We bought our own gluten free bread to breakfast and everything was clearly labelled. Not the greatest amount of choice for gluten free but the supermarket has a great selection.

My husband and I spent 10 nights at Hotel Santa Gilla, half board. I booked this hotel for a number of reasons: 1. It was close to the beach. 2. A reasonable price. 3. Closeto things like bars and shops if we needed them. This hotel ticked the boxes.
Hotel Santa Gilla is great for one or two night stays which is what a lot of Italian families were doing but if you were staying for a long stay (like us) then it was perfect as you never saw the same people everyday! I think my husband and I and one other couple were the only British people there, which we also found a bonus!
The pool area - no need to rush and claim a sun-bed as there were always plenty available. It did become busy around the pool at the end of our stay, more so with kids and inflatables, which is expected into the summer season.
The food, yes some would say is ‘limited’. We picked a starters and a mains from a list of 3 for each and that was your dinner for the next evening. Dessert was whatever they had prepared which was usually a mousse of some kind. Twice a week there was a buffet meal which meant you could sample traditional Sardinian foods. The breakfast is a lovely selection of yoghurts, cakes, meats, cheeses, breads, fruit and cereals, plus non stop fruit juice and coffee. Breakfast is everything you would expect for a continental breakfast. The quality of the food was excellent.
The waiters and hotel staff are friendly and helpful. We requested a taxi to be booked to collect us from the airport and for various excursions. This cost can be put on your room tab to pay at the end of your trip. Be aware that if you book a taxi that isn’t booked through the hotel then you are charged for the expense of them coming out to your hotel as well as the trip itself.
The hotel room was lovely, comfortable, not modern but had everything you needed for your stay. The only things that would have made it super perfect is if there had been a kettle for tea and coffee in the room and a larger shower cubical. The hotel weren’t keen on you putting anything other than hotel bought things in the fridge / mini bar..
We visited the capital, Cagliari, for a day out. The hotel booked us transport from the hotel to the market. The market was worth a look, lots of stalls selling meat and vegetables mainly. We then went on to visit the botanical gardens. This was well worth the entry fee of approx €4. We spent the rest of the day walking around the city. We returned by bus to the hotel (130).
All in all, we had a lovely relaxing stay and we would recommend the hotel as it is a great base for doing nothing (like us) or renting a car and seeing more of the country.

The hotel offered us a quiet stay.
Even though the facilities are not new, everything works as it should. Maybe the Air Conditioning in the room could work a bit better but still kept us chilled when there was over 35 degrees outside.
The swimming pool is great and the view to the lake is somewhat relaxing.
The staff was friendly and helpful, even helping us to rent a car from a local partner which took the car to the hotel, avoiding the hassle for us of having to go out to get the car and return it.
The breakfast was fine, with several options.
The food from the restaurant is really good, however not everyday with vegetarian options.
The location of the hotel is not the most marvelous but it is conveniently close to Cagliari. There’s a good supermarket close to the property, some shops and restaurants. The closest beach can be reached by waking less than 10 minutes.

Spent a week here at the end of September. The staff were exceptional, always friendly and helpful, the best service we've had on any holiday.
The food was very good, albeit with a limited menu if you're a fussy water like myself.
The hotel is a good base for visiting southern sardinia if you rent a car, but not great for getting about on foot. The rooms were clean and spacious and we had a little seating area overlooking the garden which was nice.
The view over the lagoon from the terrace was lovely, but you will need to arm yourselves with plenty of insect repellant to enjoy it.
All in all a decent hotel.

Closer to 3 star hotel I would say, in a slightly shabby part of an outer area of Cagliari.
Lovely big pool (un heated) in pretty gardens. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Rooms big but dated. I found the rooms quite noisy as they are interconnected and walls are thin. I didn’t sleep that well there. Was happy to leave after 3 nights.
Food options v.limited. And only a few restaurants locally including a take away pizzeria. Breakfast was fine but focus was on pastries cereal etc. A continental breakfast really. Coffee from a machine and scrambled eggs over cooked. Dinner we had there once: they do a fixed buffet of 29 euros and no other options. They don’t do lunch. I think the idea is to get guests to pay for extras wherever possible.
Fridge in room didn’t really work and AC was switched off to heat mode only. So yea I can’t see this really a 4 star offering!
It’s fine as a base to stay for a night or two but you need a car if you want to visit Cagliari or use local buses (taxi starts at 45 euros each way). I didn’t think it was that reasonable so probably would spend a bit more and stay somewhere more central or of a higher standard.

Dear mr. JCONNO007, thank you very much for your review. We are sorry that some aspects of your stay were not pleasant, other guests found the breakfast and dinner excellent and with a great variety. It was obviously not what you expected. We take the liberty of giving you some advice: next time you should contact the hotel to find out what services they provide, if there are other activities in the area, costs, etc. Our staff is always available and if we realize that we are not what you are looking for in a hotel, we will recommend something else. We write everything on the site and during the booking phase and we are sorry that someone may leave not satisfied. Last point: this "slightly shabby part of an outer area of Cagliari" is really close to the lagoon of Santa Gilla, designated as a wetland site of international importance under the Ramsar Convention since 1976 and is ranked among the most important of such areas in the European Union. Thanks anyway for sharing your experience.

We had a very good time at the hotel Santa Gilla. The Staff was very friendly and helpful. The Hotel was very clean in every area, also the pool. There was also a lifeguard at the pool. The bed and pillows were comfortable, AC working well. At the buffet in the morning and in the evening there was enough choice to always find something
15 minutes walk to the beach, or in the other direction to the busstop to Cagliari. At the supermarket just around the corner you can find everything you need, including healthy snacks for noon, for example.
At the beach there was no more possibility to buy anything end of september. But the weather and water conditions still perfect! Otherwise the area is really not touristic. It was good that we knew this before, otherwise it could have been a negative surprise! The Hotel offers also trips to different destinations (I don’t know if it is all year round, we didn’t use it), and they can give you informations about where you can go. They also provided us with bus timetables and organized a taxi that brought us to the airport.

A nice hotel but certainly not 4 star. The room was spacious but the view from the balcony was poor, it was obstructed by a green bush. A pool view would have been much more preferable. ☀️🏊♂️
The bathroom was extremely spacious however the shower was awful, every-time I showered it flooded because the door didn’t close correctly, this seems to be a recurring theme in Italy 🚿🤦🏽♂️😂
We paid approx €30 each for the evening meal food, it was nice for what it was but certainly not worth €30 each. 🍽️
There is a supermarket 3mins away from the hotel which was nice but there is little to nothing in the surrounding area. The beach was a 6-8min walk away but again nothing to shout about. 🏖️
Unfortunately I rate this hotel…
3 star ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Dear Ricorh92, Thank you for sharing your review with the Tripadvisor community. Obviously we accept your rating but allow us to respond in points: - you have booked a classic room; the pool view rooms are of the superior type, with a higher cost. If you had asked at the reception, we would have made you a good offer, if there were any superior rooms available. - We had our maintenance department check the shower, but it works well: you probably didn't pull the door towards it well, being a shower also suitable for people with physical disabilities. - your opinion is that a daily buffet with three first courses, three second courses, 5 appetizers, 8 hot/cold side dishes and three desserts is not worth 30 euros per person. It is his sacred opinion, but we do not agree and so do many guests who leave positive reviews. In general, we are sorry that we have not been able to make you feel like you would have liked. We invite you to come back in the future to show you how we will improve our services. A warm greeting Carlo hotel manager
