We stayed at Chateau de la Prade in Sept 2023. The Gite, as part of the Chateau, was our home for 3 weeks. The Gite had two bedrooms, each with a bathroom, a full equipped kitchen with two ovens, large fridge and large freezer. We love to cook, so this was a perfect Gite for us. The view on the garden with the huge trees was fantastic. The Gite was a nice base for trips to Rennes le Chateau, Montsegur, Mirepoix and ofcourse Carcassonne. The Chateau is at the canal du midi. You can walk to the locks in a couple of minutes. We also saw a lot of cyclists staying at the Chateau for a couple of days. The owners really gave us the feeling to be at home. We can advise everyone who want to visit the Cathar area to stay at Chateau de la Prade. We certainly would come back if time lets us.

One of the nicest places we stayed in France. Grand old building surrounded by beautiful and peaceful gardens. A short walk or cycle along the Midi Canal to the historic village of Bram, with a lively market and excellent restaurant and bakery. Large rooms with lovely decor. Relaxing pool in the gardens. Breakfast outside overlooking the gardens a highlight.

There are only 4 bedrooms at La Prade (all of which are good sized, well proportioned and have quality bathrooms) and therefore we are in some ways reluctant to share the information about this outstanding hotel as we will want to return as often as possible and would hate for availability to become limited however George and Roland deserve full praise for the friendly yet professional manner in which they run this haven of tranquility.
in our opinion the only down side is that there is not a pretty village with a couple of bars very close by but everything else is wonderful and excellent value for money.
We whole heartedly recommend you visit---but please not when we want to go!!!! You will not be disappointed

We stayed one night at this lovely chateau. Not large but charming and beautifully decorated. We did not see much Remy, the owner but Ana's, who came to help us find the chateau when our satnav deposited us in Bram, turned out to be a wonderful host and a great cook. His breakfast in particular was superb!
We selected a delightful room overlooking tranquil gardens. I think it was Montaigne Noire. Huge comfortable bed and light but stylish decor.

This past month 4 of us had a marvellous two weeks in the gite attached to the hotel's main building.
The gite, we understand, is only available during the summer months and is a real find! Equipped more like a home than a commercial apartment, it as a spacious lounge/diner with an adjacent galley kitchen (microwave/oven/hob unit/dishwasher/coffee maker, etc). Reasonable wi-fi and multi-channel TV are available. The two bedrooms have double beds and en suite bathrooms, equipped with toiletries and with large walk-in showers and open out onto a small terrace where one can sit outside (under the awning if it gets too hot) for meals. A few metres away form the gite lies a small but clean swimming pool, which barely used by others during our stay. Use of a washing machine and a tumble-dryer in the main building make long stays more manageable if you are traveling with luggage limitations. We were able to borrow bikes to cycle along the adjacent Canal du Midi (access through the back gate onto the towpath). For those evenings when we decided not to cook, we booked the hotel's three-course set menu (Euro 24pp) with a good range of wins offered to accompany a varied range of home-cooked food. George and Roland deserve many plaudits for making our stay more like a visit to friends than to a functional hotel with a welcome and service to match. Our two gite-mates cycled into nearby Bram each day to buy fresh bread and croissants for breakfast. The town holds a market on Wednesday and Sunday mornings with local produce on sale and well-worth a visit.
The only two drawbacks were the mosquitos (bring or buy Deet spray and you should be fine) and the lack of A/C, but George and Roland lent us electric fans to mitigate this. I would definitely recommend this place as a great base for exploration of the region's many Cathar castles and towns as well, of course, Carcassonne itself, just 8 miles away.

This is a wonderful place to stay. Old world country charm. Our hosts were helpful and charming from the moment we arrived. Newly renovated bathrooms contrasted with the feel of staying in someone's home. A stroll around the gardens before drinks on the terrace. We ate a delightful dinner of foie gras, asparagus, canard and dessert. Breakfast was also excellent and served at our time. Young Anas drove us to Castelnaudry for the next stage of our trip and recommended a restaurant that turned out to be as good as he said. thank you Georges and Anas for the wonderful memories of just one night. we waved to you as we cruised back down the Midi Canal on our hire Canal boat.

We stayed here with our two teenagers for 3 nights. It is a beautiful house, complete with peacocks on the lawn. It backs directly on to the Canal de Midi, which is why we chose it - we planned to cycle along the Canal.
The Chateau is not in Bram itself and is not within walking distance of the village or restaurants. So you will need your car to get about. But it is a little haven and worth going off the track for the peace and quiet.
The bedrooms were spacious and nicely decorated, with modern bathrooms and comfortable beds. The interior design is very tasteful and appropriate for a Chateau. Each room has a TV and there is WIFI available.
Outside there is small swimming pool and sun beds and there was no problem in getting a bottle of Rose served there in the afternoon. We brought our own pool towels so I don't actually know if they are provided on request.
The food is lovely - the tables are beautifully laid and nothing is too much trouble. We had dinner at the Chateau on two nights - it is a set price (26 euros?) per person and it is a set 4 course meal. The food is good value (based on the surrounding restaurants). The wine is a little pricey though (starting at 18 euros a bottle). If you are foodie, then you will enjoy this. We did pop out one of the nights to satisfy our teenagers need for more simple food but really enjoyed the Chateau food and, had we been on our own, would have eaten there on all 3 nights.
We were provided with bicycles free of charge, which was marvellous. We cycled in the direction of Carcassonne along the Canal de Midi. We were surprised at the lack of cafes and shops along the route so make sure you bring water and snacks with you. Also the path is badly maintained in parts and very bumpy and rutted. (and we are experienced cyclists).
All in all, this is a delightful place to stay. Whilst my teenagers were made very welcome, the Chateau is probably more suited to adults only. We would certainly return.
