I have had my eye on this hotel for a few years and this year we decided to take the plunge and add it on to the end of our 10 days in Lefkada. The thing putting me off, and other reviewers, was the very strict no refund policy which is unheard of for a hotel of this calibre and as we’re in the middle of a pandemic extremely odd. Anyway, we went ahead and reluctantly booked albeit slightly later than normal. By doing so they had no family rooms left. They have this rather strange policy whereby anyone over the age of 6 is deemed an adult (!) so although they had a number of junior suites they would not let us book them for a family of 4 (my children are 7 & 11) as the children were too old. So we booked two rooms instead and was assured a number of times by the lady at reservations that if a family room came up we could move to it. After booking we would occasionally check and the odd one came up but they would always say we couldn’t have it for whatever reason. The day before we were due to arrive we saw a Maisonette come up only for part of our stay but we were happy to move and pay whatever extra was needed. We called and were told they couldn’t see the room on their system (odd in itself) but they could see it for one night and would reserve it for us and we could discuss options when we got there. So we travelled across from Lefkada, checked in only to be told this room didn’t exist. In fact we were told 3 different stories which led us to believe, for whatever reason, they just couldn’t be bothered with moving us or changing the booking. It was handled in such a rude and hostile way as to say it was our fault and the manner was just shocking. I just assume none of the staff here have had any training in customer service apart from Panos who should go and give them all a lesson as THAT is how it should be done. Go above and beyond, the customer is always right and never be defensive or rude. We ended up with two rooms and they agreed to put a camp bed in the suite after all. So after all that we have one room not being used and having to pay for it!! Rooms - dated in need of some upgrading, think more 3* basic. We had one open plan sea view suite which was dark on the ground floor so terrible “sea view” would not recommend. The executive double with sea view was nicer but again the balcony was on the side and I wouldn’t class this as a sea view but side sea view. There are half empty Korres toiletries which was laughable, I mean what 5* hotel doesn’t supply toiletries!!! No turn down or additional water etc Breakfast - very mediocre, buffet style and nothing special. Car hire - shambolic, again v poorly handled by the front desk who at times were accusatory and defensive. When lovely Maria from the car hire company turned up she said it had been booked but the hotel never gave her a name. Pool - gorgeous, lovely space with amazing views and as said above Panos was amazing and a real credit to the hotel. We heard someone try and tip him when they were leaving and he said ‘I’ll split that with everyone’. Sums him up. Cocktails a little weak (no surprise really with all the cost cutting in place), definitely need aperol spritz retraining! Lobster pasta in the pool restaurant is a frozen lobster, at €45 a plate a costly mistake. People reserve sun loungers from 8am so be warned. Spa - fully booked, couldn’t get anything. I had emailed a week before asking for the brochure and I got no reply. The jacuzzi is cold and you have to pay for it. Shuttle service - gets very full but they will do a second bus Reviews like this always say we have stayed in many 5 * hotels across the world and both travel a lot for work etc and in our case this is true. But that’s not the point, any person paying money for a service should always receive that. This is not a 5 star hotel, I would say 4 for setting/pool and 3 for everything else. All in all a VERY expensive mistake.…
Having visited the Emelisse many times & always had a fantastic time we noticed that there have been some changes for the better this year. Breakfast is always one of the highlights with stunning views. Dinner in the Votsalo restaurant was relaxing enjoyable experience with the pool area beautifully lit. A day trip with Costa on the Fortuna was certainly worth doing. Thanks to Angela for always looking after our bookings, Denise at reception always ready to help, Mary for welcoming smile, Katernina overseeing breakfast, Demtris always smiling. We can’t wait to return next year!
This place is just incredible. Amazing views, such a relaxing atmosphere and the pool is so beautiful and relaxing. The food is the best we had on the island and the staff can’t do enough for you. Can’t wait to return!
Our room despite being one of the more expensive categories was beyond dark. There are hardly any lights in the room and all the furniture is dark. Hard to see anything The bathroom is minuscule and nowhere to put ones toiletries etc. One tiny basin Breakfast in my opinion has no COVID protocol whatsoever. Everyone crowded around a buffet using the same utensils. Felt very uncomfortable. Even though we have good notice of our intention to leave early they refused any refund This hotel takes the full amount up front so unless you 100% certain of your dates and no possible need to cancel , do not book.
After staying for a couple of days i can say with certainty that this place is really something unique. They have very clean rooms and very tasty food! George at the bar is a very genuine and friendly person. He took care of us the best possible way! Definitely worth it :)
