We had a lovely trip in Nikiana Lefkada , some points however we think would make the trip even better: 1) Check out online the restaurants before visiting the area 2) Check out online the beaches etc as it can get difficult to decide which area to visit if you decide not to just stay put at the Villa 3) Bring extra sunscreen with you

Amazing villa located in Nikiana Lefkada. I adored the little garden and the magnificent pool. Everything was great , the weather is gorgeous and the area is fully exposed to sun. The beach only a couple of meters away is also stunning. Overall extremely happy and will love to visit again soon.

Having never been to Nikiana , let alone Lefkas before, we were a bit skeptical as to what we would come across. Initially , we thought that Lefkas was a bit dull, however come pass the days, we came to the conclusion that it is an excellent choice for a holiday whether couple or family. The only negative aspect is driving and certain roads, plus some expensive eateries we came by. Overall we had a beautiful stay at the villa , esp. around the pool and we utilized the bbq every second day.

Our stay at Villa Yialos was delightful and definitely would love to re-visit any time soon. A summary of my thoughts after our stay: Positive aspects: 1) Parking can be either outside or inside of the Villa, easily 3 cars (2 in , 1 out) 2) Very clean and well maintained Villa 3) Cleaning service on Wed so good reason to pop out of the Villa after 10 am 4) Lots of restaurants and shops nearby 5) Nydri and Lefkas town is 10 mins drive. 6) Sea- beach is at your doorstep. Points of interest: 1) Too much sunlight during the day, you will need to add sunscreen as you might get sunburnt around the pool. 2) The area is a bit too quiet, so it might seem a bit odd the first couple of days if you are from a metro area. 3) Pool is too big for a Villa, I estimate at least around 40 sqm at 2,20 m depth I think, so you actually need to be cautious and able to swim!!! can't paddle around!! 4) The villa is very large over 3 levels and can be bit difficult to get use to the grand size of it, especially if you are used to apartment living. 5) Balcony safety net mesh , for extra safety Negative aspects: 1) The island lacks signage or we didn't understand them driving around!!! Either way you need to equip yourself with a gps that has a map of the island.

If you are like me and relying on Trip Advisor to make a decision about booking then please read this review; had there been a similar recent review I wouldn’t have booked. The villa itself (Yialos) IS of a high standard in terms of cleanliness, build, equipment, etc. However there are some real negative points which I am astounded aren’t mentioned by other reviewers. Well they are if you go a bit further back in the reviews - something I regret! Firstly - the pool. For us the pool was the most important factor- unlike other villa companies, TUI fail to put the pool dimensions, I tried to find out before I booked but they simply couldn’t tell me (something I should have now seen as a red flag as they simply know nothing about this villa!!!) the size was a bit disappointing when some reviews made it sound huge -it’s adequate but certainly not huge!. It’s also cold! The reason for that is because it barely gets the sun! We were there end of July by which time we expected (as per previous experiences) that the pool would have been adequately heated by the sun - we just didn’t realise it sees the sun for only 6 hours a day and much of that time it’s only parts of the pool in the sun. This meant no late afternoon/early evening sunshine to enjoy - either in or around the pool. My favourite time of the day and absolutely nowhere to enjoy the sun. My daughter started getting cold in the pool by 430 as the sun by then is going behind the villa - so disappointing! When the sun is out, there is absolutely no way 6 people (the maximum) can enjoy the little bit of sun at the same time! Whilst you could fit 6 loungers around the pool at a push, you certainly would never get all of them in the sun! The area around the pool is very small, and you end up sitting literally alongside the pool when the sun first appears as everywhere else is shaded. If you like a sunny area like we do, and like we had always experienced- this villa is not for you! The reason for the pool being so shady is because the villa is set over FOUR levels (so is the one next door so the pool is between two very high buildings!)- something not mentioned at all in the inadequate TUI description. This villa is absolutely not suitable for anyone with mobility issues or young children. ALL of the stairs and flooring are granite - it looks lovely and most definitely helps keep things cool but it is absolutely lethal if there is any wetness on the floor- given you have to go up a lot of steps (see pic) just to get into the villa from the pool, means it’s impossible to not drip water, thus making it very dangerous! Ground level - pool and garage areas; First floor - lounge (again you could not comfortably seat 6 people) with steps down to a kitchen/dining area. Plus a utility room with toilet which is handy; Second floor - twin room with small en-suite shower room, double room with small en suite bathroom; Third floor - double room with en-suite bathroom. All the bedrooms have balconies and the views are indeed stunning however you have to be standing up to see the views! There is a plastic mesh covering around all the balcony railings which completely obstructs the view. The attached picture is taken from the main balcony on first floor which did have a lovely view of the sea but as you can see, you cannot see it from a seated position! That plastic covering is on all the balconies. Obviously done for safety reasons but it’s a bit rich implying you have fab balcony views when most people like to sit to enjoy such views! I had envisaged morning cuppas/lunch/ evening drinks sitting on balconies- just hadn’t envisaged having an obscured balcony view! Another thing that is not at all clear from the description on TUI website is that the villa access is firstly off a very busy road, and secondly down an extremely steep lane - not suitable for any inexperienced or nervous drivers. Each time we had to go out up the steep lane, it literally felt like you’re taking your life in your hands because the cars coming from the left are speeding round a blind bend. Once you commit you have to just go! Moreover access into the garage was up a very steep and sharp edge kerb - there was no concrete ramp to ease you up it was just a horrible brick edged high kerb and in a hire car you’re paranoid you’re going to wreck it! The picture shows the height /edge (red mark) - I couldn’t measure it but you can see where my husbands ankle ends and it’s still not the top! Opposite the garage was what we assumed was ‘our’ turning area - you needed this space to manoeuvre the car into the garage. By mid week people from the neighbouring hotel were using this space - at one point there were three cars parked there leaving us with absolutely no room to get in or out (if you didn’t have to contend with such a high kerb it would be ok but you need a kind of ‘run up’ to get the car up and over the kerb!! We had to abandon our plans to drive down to Nydri on our last night as we were genuinely concerned about being able to get the car back in the garage - and there is literally nowhere else to park! Again if you are a party with more than one car this could seriously be a problem! In terms of location you can walk into nikiana and we did several times, however, as already mentioned, you have to go up the very steep lane to get onto the main road, where for the first 5-10 mins there is no pavement and at times you have to literally wait for a gap in traffic and then run around parked cars - it’s certainly not young child, wheelchair or buggy friendly! The positive points were that we didn’t know all the bedrooms had bathrooms, and a downstairs wc was also handy. The kitchen was very well equipped, lots of plastic stuff to use outside which was great. The aircon was also excellent - units in lounge, kitchen and all bedrooms. It is noisy so take ear plugs if light sleeper. With the shutters closed the bedrooms were lovely and dark - really helped with sleeping longer. We found the beds very comfortable but they are very firm - all of them, for us it was no problem and we all slept really well, but if you’re used to a much softer mattress you will find these beds very hard. Mid week linen and towel change which we knew was due at 10am weds so we went to the waterfalls that morning. Pool was always clean though never saw anyone. Did see the owner within an hour of arriving. He just appeared in the garden, primarily to check we were the right people I think. He was pleasant enough though we told him the smoke alarm battery in one bedroom was needing replacement as it was beeping - in the week we were there it didn’t get replaced! Did see the rep Jenny who popped over, very nice lady and not at all intrusive. She helped me suss out how to work the hob which was very misleading! Overall the fact we slept so well helped, and the times we could use the pool it was nice, but had I known more about this villa like the lack of sun, access, location, I simply would not have booked it. I think it’s very poor that TUI don’t put more information on their website, especially about accessibility. I have contacted them about this and awaiting a response. They have a responsibility to warn customers about any access issues so to not even mention it’s on 4 levels and you can’t even get into the villa without going up an external staircase, is pretty poor! Most annoying of all is that I requested more information and photos on more than one occasion before I booked, and whilst my normal instinct would be to not risk it, because it was a company as reputable as TUI I thought that I was just being overly cautious so booked it. This review is designed to give prospective customers a much clearer picture than what we had!
