Touched by the Ionian Sea, recently built Golden Mare Barbati hotel in Corfu, Greece, is a beach resort for memorable island holidays. Barbati is located near Pantokratoras mountain and offers a marvelous view over Corfu old town, the Venetian fortress and the far Albanian mountains. Barbati is enriched of lovely bays and hidden caves, perfect place for scuba divers, and has a beautiful white stones beach. Tourists can explore both sea and mountain as the place has been developed into two different areas. One is higher along the coast road with its bars and shops. The second part of Barbati is more tranquil, is surrounded by olive trees, many paths to follow many ways to explore a different part of the beac

Detailed Reviews
Me and my boyfriend visited this hotel for 1 week at the beginning of August. Overall we had a very pleasant stay but a few things did let it down. The pool and views were amazing. My concerns were with the food. It was not up to my standard and there was not enough choice (I am quite a picky eater) but most nights we did end up eating out. Our room was lovely however our “sea view” was blocked by a tree which was absolutely full of wasps! We both didn’t enjoy sitting on the balcony as there were far too many wasps. The tree did however get cut back 2 days before we left. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. They went above and beyond if you had any issues and tried their best to ensure you had everything you needed for example I asked for an extra pillow and duvet and they sorted this very quickly for me. There was also a lovely small little shop in the hotel which was very convenient and was full of fun things to use in the pool (Pool inflatables, bar and balls etc) I was frustrated with the sun bed situation by the pool because if you wanted to ensure you got a sun bed, you would have to either get up stupidly early (6am) or put it out the night before which we ended up doing because If you didn’t, you can guarantee you will not get a sun-bed that day. It was also frustrating seeing the sun beds full of towels and people wouldn’t return for a few hours and someone else could've been using the sun bed. I feel there should definitely be a rule about how long a group can leave the towels on the beds before they get removed as we spoke to lots of people who felt the same. Other than those few issues we had a really lovely time, the bus was easy to get as the stop is at the bottom of the hotel to get into Corfu town, the beach was a short walk away (however there was a steep hill which was a killer 😂) not sure I would mark this hotel a 4* just because there are lots of minor things such as lack of choice on food and drink which aren’t up to standard.

Just returned from a short trip at this lovely hotel. The location of the hotel is perfect if you just want to chill, it is within walking distance of some lovely restaurants and beaches. Can’t fault the place for their attitude to the Covid situation and always felt safe, if you want your room cleaned you need to inform reception otherwise they will not enter your room. All the staff are 10/10, very friendly and always trying their best. We were given a room upgrade on arrival to a sea view which was stunning!
The only downsides in my opinion was the food, not once was I served a hot meal despite fresh food coming out, this really did let the standard of the hotel down. I also think they could do with a few more staff in the restaurant as there were occasions we did have to wait a while to be served drinks when the staff were rushed off their feet. There is also a serious wasp problem at the hotel, I’m not sure if there are rules about what the hotel can do to tackle this but if you have phobias then this is not the place for you!
I’d recommend a visit to Bahia mare beach (lovely food and cocktails) and Lord Byron restaurant down the road.

Hotel is immaculate, views to die for and amazing infinity pool. Rooms and communal areas are classy with no expense spared which led me to be confused by the food and drink options. Not a great deal of choice and basically using the cheapest options they could get away with (Several days we walked in and walked back out and went elsewhere to eat)However you can still make decent tasting food with some imagination! Big let down. Drinks were poor but did the job. You could buy premium cocktails and they were great but the cocktail bar with views wasn’t really used. Big waste. The staff are all great, friendly, funny and happy to help, asked for a late check out altho we had to move rooms we were given at no extra cost. Entertainment was ok, only one girl covering day and night who works really hard to get everyone involved. Decent variety but lacking in some basic ways e.g on quiz night have a microphone so everyone can hear etc..
Would definitely return but would be room only and budget to eat out. Loads of really nice places to eat with 5-10 mins walk. I specially recommend bahia beach bar, lovely homemade fresh food, massive portions and good prices.
Worth going solely for the infinity pool views and staff. Getting a sunbed was fine up till about ten most days and plenty of shade

The Hotel has lovely views, pool area great but the All inclusive is one of the worst I have experienced. The drinks are of poor quality, from alcohol to coffee. Soft drinks are so sweet, undrinkable. The food is sparse and always running out with a poor selection of meat and fish. Bones, rice and pasta or a Diet of Greek salad breakfast, lunch and dinner. The hotel does not offer pack lunches, so unless you want to stay hotel bound for your stay, consider it Half board at best.
Due to C19 you have to constantly ask for your room to be made up and replenishing towels and essentials. Otherwise the hotel adapting to changing times with food being served as opposed to everyone up touching everything, however with no changes to staffing numbers, be warned this leads to queues and this was still quite.
On first appearances it looks very idyllic. However defiantly style over substance.

I visited Greece for a week beginning 1st September with my boyfriend, and we could not be happier with this hotel. We had a junior suite room with a sea view, the views surrounding the hotel are to die for! The staff are the friendliest of people and you have such a laugh with them, their banter is unmatched. The food is fine, however I would recommend eating out at some restaurants as the food tastes a bit more proper. There is a small beach literally a few minutes walk from the hotel, but there are steps that are quite steep to get up and down, but don’t let this put you off as it is a nice peaceful little beach.. further along is a bigger beach, this is where we hired a boat which we got to take out ourselves, and jetskis... The prices are good for the time you get on each. You can find a couple restaurants on this beachfront too. We visited Ipsos one of the days and had a day on the big Aqua inflatables which cost only 10 euros for the whole day, the beach here again was beautiful, more sandier than the others, and I should mention all the beaches we visited had the most clearest water I’ve ever seen. We could see the fishes swimming beneath us it’s that clear. The hotel is within walking distance of shops and also has a shop on the complex, there is a car rental place nearby and peds and quads for hire too. The pool is amazing, a great size and beautifully lit up at night, and we rarely struggled to get a sunbed. Overall the hotel is absolutely beautiful I would give it 5 stars, it always smells fresh and is thoroughly cleaned every day, the floors are literally shining, they also have a rooftop cocktail bar where you can take some nice photos amongst the breathtaking view of the sea and sunset at night and enjoy the premium cocktails (which aren’t included in all inclusive)... I will definitely return to this hotel at some point in the future, and I would bring my children here next time too... Thank you for a beautiful stay, we really couldn’t of picked a better location and a better hotel. Thank you! X

Originally we were booked to return to the Mayor Pelekas Monastery but discovered it was closed via social media so switched our booking to the Golden Mare.
We arrived to a warm and friendly greeting from the very pleasant receptionist. Both receptionists were polite, super friendly and always very helpful, both an absolute credit to the hotel.
Mario showed us to our room and he was always very friendly throughout our ten day stay.
The restaurant manager was welcoming and always charming and friendly, always finding time for a quick chat and seemed to be a really decent and lovely man.
Tasos at the bar was fantastic and always friendly, chatty and full of humour, he really is a huge asset to the hotel.
Xanthi in the restaurant was charming, great fun and always polite, along with the other restaurant staff, they are all an absolute credit to the Golden Mare.
So as our review suggests, the staff really do make this place a special holiday experience.
The hotel is set in a beautiful location in Barbati and has some stunning views. Parts of it have some pretty steep hills but they help work off some of the extra calories from all of the great desserts on offer.
The food is pretty agreeable as all-inclusive offerings go, there is always something you can enjoy and they really do their best work with their desserts.
There are Covid measures in place so the staff plate your food and it felt very safe.
The drinks are pretty good for all- inclusive with a decent variety and the house white wine was surprisingly pretty decent, at least drinkable!
There is a well stocked and reasonably priced store on site and two supermarkets locally within walking distance.
Locally there are many restaurants and bars, the Lord Byron was enjoyable with great views from their elevated area. La Piazza slightly further on was a nice spot for late-night pizza and beer.
Barbati beach is a pebble beach with several beach bars and incredibly clear water, along with some spectacular views.

We arrived here on 3rd June for 7 nights. Had a lovely time here. Would recommend paying for a sea view room, was very much worth the extra money we paid as the view was amazing and we didn’t have any noise issues. They had a room to store our luggage when we first arrived as we got there a few hours before our room was ready. They also let us leave our luggage in the same room when we checked out and let us use the pool/all inclusive all day until our departure as we had an evening flight which we thought was very generous. The pool area is very nice. They have a table tennis table, pool table and darts which kept us entertained throughout the week. There was a nice little in hotel shop that sold souvenirs, card games and snacks.
The all inclusive food seems to have fairly negative reviews on here but we thought it was very good. They always have fries, pasta with tomato/bolognese sauce, some sort of chicken/pork, soup, bread and lots of salads. They often had new potatoes, fish fingers, chicken nuggets, gyros with pita bread, lamb kebabs, macaroni cheese, beef in peppercorn sauce etc. Desserts were amazing. They always had different types of cakes, jelly, mousse, and different flavoured ice cream all at lunchtime and dinner. Definitely lots of selection and something for everyone. Drinks were generally nice, there seemed to be no limit on the amount of alcoholic drinks you could have which was great.
The staff were all lovely and helpful, especially restaurant/bar staff who all seemed extremely hard working.
The entertainment was great. In the 7 nights we were there they had traditional greek dancers, a magician, a soul music performance, rock music performance and an international music performance. It was all very good.
The only way I could fault the hotel is the sunbed hogging, but then this tends to be an issue most places you go. People will put their towels on a sunbed and leave them there for hours on end, often for a whole day. The hotel did put out a sign at the pool bar asking people to not do this but it was ignored. Hopefully they will find a way to control this as they are aware it is an issue.
Overall I would definitely recommend a stay here, we had a great time.

We arrived to the hotel, with a lovely warm welcome from the hotel receptionist Anastasia. She made everything so clear about how the hotel was running through Covid and what a great job they done!
The rooms were lovely and cleaned on your request, so if you didn’t want anyone to clean your room you didn’t have to! Now let’s get to the bar staff Tasos was just amazing, everytime you walked up he knew what you were having. Xanthi every breakfast and lunch greeted you with a smile and also knew what you were going to ask for! all the staff work there backsides off to make your stay 100%
The food could of been a bit better but you will always find something to eat! The drinks were not the branded drinks but they were drinkable, there are some lovely restaurants up the road if you fancy dining out!
The pool could do with some more maintenance as it wasn’t very clear and became merky, after using the pool our swim wear started to go green. But returning home, the majority of it has come out in the wash.
Overall the hotel was amazing I would 100% return! If you want to sunbathe with views to die for and the most comfiest bed then book!
Thanks again for making our stay amazing!

I have just arrived back from 2 amazing weeks at the Golden mare and I loved every minute. The food delicious, all super fresh and choice for everyone. The rooms were of a high standard super modern and all very well cleaned which brought a lot of security within these times. The pool area was absolutely stunning with the views of both the ocean and the mountains. (I would say to get a sunbed you had to be up early). The staff went above and beyond for you, all super welcoming bubbly and polite. A big special mention to Tasos, the bar tender at the pool he was an absolute joy, so friendly and always there to make you laugh. Also to the entertainer Giada, she was absolutely hilarious had everyone smiling keeping us busy and provided an amazing program both day and night with something for everyone!!!
Also with these strange times the hotel was Covid safe and never felt at risk with all the precautions being followed
Would highly recommend this hotel if your after a little relaxation!!!

We visited the Golden Mare to celebrate a 2 year delayed Hen Do. From the moment we arrived Costas made us super welcome, and created us a drink called a “Bride Special” he certainly made the bride and the rest of the hens feel special throughout our stay keeping our drinks topped up and his humour was great! The hotel is absolutely beautiful, & the views are stunning, we got some incredible photos and made amazing memories. Even when some jumped in the pool at night Costas sorted some warm towels for the girls!
There isn’t a great deal close by, but the hotel entertainment is good, and it’s what you make it! We visited Piedre del Marr, which is just down the road. A gorgeous beach bar, with great food and drinks right on the beach. The hotel even offers a free mini bus or Tuk Tuk service there and back which absolutely made our day, the ride on the Tuk Tuk was just hilarious.
The spa is beautiful it was such a shame that the huge hot tub was empty! We could have fit our whole bridal party of 13 in there comfortably and had a pamper evening or afternoon in the facilities. Instead we sent the bride for a massage which was totally reasonably priced and she was very impressed.
You do have to ask for rooms to be cleaned but I feel the rooms could do with being cleaned every other day regardless, even just a mop of the floors. We ended up keeping our flip flops on to shower as the bathroom became completely waterlogged by day 2 and the floors seemed to be quite dirty from the moment we arrived. The only other issue was the safe didn’t work, but a small fix, we weren’t worried ourselves as only here for 3 nights, we barely unpacked! Some of the rooms are up higher, away from the hotel and the pathways can be very steep and uneven, so if you are someone who struggles it would be best to request a room closer to the main facilities.
The food is nothing special and being all inclusive it’s never particularly hot food but you cannot complain for the price, there was so much choice and something for everyone. We definitely did not go hungry! There is no scraping on alcohol measures either they are VERY generous! The little hotel shop has everything you need, is so reasonable and the girls in there are so kind and chatty!
Overall I would revisit here and have already recommended to friends and family! It depends what you are looking for, but if you want a beautiful modern hotel, with friendly welcoming staff, and breathtaking views, you will not be disappointed.
