Stayed one week in August 2019. Beautifully located, Finca es Castell is a delighful small hotel created from old farm buildings. Much of the character has been retained with original features that can be seen. The hotel is accessed via narrow roads and un-made track so you definitely need a hire car. We stayed in room 9, described as a double with balcony. The balcony was in fact a small private terrace area beside the main path to reception and we enjoyed the beautiful mountain views over breakfast from our private terrace every morning. The room was comfortable but the bathroom is rather dated and could do with updating - mildew around the bath, for example. The breakfast (which you pay extra for) was plentiful and very good - fresh coffee, fruit, yogurt, juice, bread and a good continental selection of meat, eggs and cheeses. The property is described as having free wifi to all rooms - unfortunately room 9 did not seem to be able to get wifi and we had to go out onto the terrace to get signal. The swimming pool is on the small side but with plenty of (slightly tired) sunbeds to go round it wasn't a problem. On a couple of occasions other guests 'reserved' the better positioned sunbeds with their towels which was annoying but there was plenty of shady space in the garden beyond the pool where there are additional sunbeds. We were offered an evening meal on the day of our arrival - described as paella night. Whilst the paella was delicious, the meal was let down by the starter of (definitely not homemade) rissoles which were extremely disappointing - we had much better later on in the week in the numerous local restaurants. The poor waitress at our evening meal appeared to be multi tasking by receiving guests, laying tables for the evening and then later on serving us at dinner. In fact, the oddest thing about Finca es Castell was the service. Erika the receptionist seems to be the face of the hotel, virtually holding the place together. She was so professional, helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Erika was smartly presented and efficient, unlike the other staff who appeared to be dressed in their casual clothes. It was hard to tell who was who to be honest. There didn't appear to be a manager and indeed at some points the hotel appeared unstaffed. The hotel could be top-notch if the manager was present and the evening service stepped up. Being so distant from the nearest town or village the hotel could really make a good profit with decent evening food and service in the hotel but it didn't appear to be a priority.

Finca es Castell is a beautiful place to stay and Erika is the perfect host: friendly, informative and always giving you a comfortable feeling. However: although she’s doing the best she can, it is very clear that there is just not enough personal at the finca to give you a perfect stay. When you order drinks and snacks, it just takes too long, because of a lack of personal. A receptionist should be able to stay at the reception to answer questions and doing the checkin and out, and this cannot be combined with preparing snacks and drinks while the new guests are waiting on the reception to get their room. Apart of this, we can recommend Finca es Castell, it is beautiful and restful and the walls of the buildings are talking about the history of the place.

Stayed one week in July 2019 w/husband and child 8 yrs old. Everything in Finca es Castell is just perfect: unique old castel in beautiful surroundings, breakfast lovely, pool lovely, top notch service (Erika you are the best!). Short drive everywhere: beaches, Palma, mountains, old towns in mid island. You need a car in order to enjoy this place and the island.

We stayed a couple of nights in Es Castell and had mixed feelings about the Finca. The location, the historic buildings and the rooms were as good as expected. Unfortunately, the dinner and the breakfast were not. The property is in an amazing elevated position above the tiny hamlet of Binibona so dining “in” each evening has obvious attractions if you want to take alcohol with your meal. The problem was that the food was decidedly average. In addition to that, the breakfasts were very ordinary too. Be that as it may, the staff were very kind a our room was spotless. A special commendation for Eli who checked us in, showed us our room and even served us our dinner. She was rushed off her feet but always managed a friendly smile.
