Deodar homestay, the Heritage property but still have luxurious amenities with view of Himalayan snow peaks. Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed by the always smiling Prakash Bhaiya (care taker & in house Chef) who cooks impeccable food, you just name it & he will prepare for you. Do not forget to try stuffed breads, mushroom soup & cakes. This is a great place to stay, spotlessly clean, in a very quiet and peaceful location. It was the best experience staying there. Location is very beautiful and close to nature. This place is well maintained. Staff was extremely friendly. Food is homely and delicious. Rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. You will also find friendly Uri and Ollie (golden retriever dogs), who will accompany you whole day. You have full privacy with all requirements taken care of. There is a bonfire to sit by in winter nights. I would highly recommend this place and I would definitely want to come back to this place again. The owners Vineeta Di & Shekahar Ji are very nice people with a gentle character of hospitality. This may have been the first time we stayed here, it certainly won't be the last! "Living life in Pahad where people are connected socially instead on social media, where people are more connected to nature than their phones isn't what people missing in cities" I would highly recommend this beautiful Heritage property.

Our party had a wonderful time at this resort. On a ridge on the outskirts of Almora with terrific service views of Himalayan snow peaks. Within walking distance of the market and mall. Staff, Prakash and Neeraj, very helpful, excellent cooks. We highly recommend this retreat.

It grows on you. It has to, especially if you want to treat it as a workcation of 16 nights. Our arrival created a hiccup followed by some more, getting resolved as the days wore on and understanding was reached with the staff and us. What did go against the grain of hospitality though was the absence of a manager not only on site but from our lives as well. Two interactions can be written off. Neither did the owners show any interest in mingling with us. And so our entry was an unwelcoming and disorganized one. It got compounded as the drive from Rudrapur stretched to 5 hours from 4 due to a landslide enroute and a road block near our homestay which we were not informed of. Covid times, so we booked all the 6 rooms of this heritage property of 5 acres. It is a 100 year old Indo British Bungalow in the cantonment area of Almora. And beautiful it is too. Lots of outdoor sitting spaces. A conservatory for rainy and cold days. Tall trees like the cone, pine and deodar endemic to this region support noisy, chattering parrots and the rhesus monkeys which did not create a nuisance. Thank heavens for that as most of our meals were eaten out of doors. Plenty of seasonal flowers to enhance the beauty of our surroundings. Even though we were there in the monsoon month of August the rain did not play spoil sport. In fact temperatures were on the warmer side. Light woollens for the odd, cool evening. The hills always provide opportunities for hiking, trekking or the slower more enjoyable walks. The latter formed a pleasurable and intrinsic part of our stay here. And to add picnics to them made for joyful, everlasting memories. There were morning pre breakfast tea and cookie picnics. Even a breakfast picnic with bun omelettes, and piping hot tea. The first of our lunch picnics was in a meadow at Chitai. It started with a chaat party and ended with our tea stall serving warm and scrummy banana walnut loaf and masala chai. Cooks from the resort accompanied us to, hold your breath, cook on site and a feast it was too. The weather suited our mood and was cool enough to remove the uncomfortable warmth. Our second lunch picnic was unanimously in favour of a river one. That took some doing as we wanted the perfect spot. Flat enough for chairs to sit on under shady trees. Also to be easily accessible so we could sit by its waters with our feet dipped in it as we drank, ate and listened to music . A freshly baked lemon cake with tea, rounded off the meal . Another cook out tasty lunch was relished by all. We returned to the resort with satisfaction and unforgettable memories of our time spent next to the fast flowing Kosi river, captured in plenty by our cameras. Food forms an integral part of any holiday and if you can get a variety with taste then it makes it all the more worthwhile. And the Deodar Homestay cooked this part well. The open air wood fired oven churned out mouth-watering pizzas, garlic bread and calzones one after another on at least 3 occasions. They were divine and as professional as one can get. The tandoor made the softest and most tempting rotis and naans as also meats. There were always freshly baked buns, delicious chocolate cinnamon rolls and a variety of tea cakes on offer at tea time. A bit of Kumaoni, a bit of Chinese, some Continental but mostly Indian and that sums up the food palette for varied palates. You can put on weight if you are not careful, but then you have the walks to get rid of the indulgence. Breakfast is complimentary. The massage and steam facilities came as an extremely pleasant surprise and were availed of to the maximum by all. There are 6 rooms, 3 on either side of a long corridor. 2 master bedrooms offering king sized beds and ensuite bathrooms. The other 4 bedrooms also have king sized double beds with the difference being that there is a cubicle for a bathroom inside. Which means, no roof, no ventilation and hence smells and sounds waft around the room. Tea and coffee making facilities, amenities in the bathrooms, a large TV, and a pedestal fan to make your stay a comfortable one. The best part is that both sides have broad verandas for sit outs and what’s more our TT table was placed there on which many competitive games were played with great gusto. There is an outdoor basketball ring, too. The lack of a common room or drawing room was a bit of a nuisance. As the weather held we could sit out instead. Come evening and we’d be plagued by large mosquitoes which made sitting out uncomfortable, till dark . So we’d surrounded ourselves with mosquito repellent sticks. Nearby places to visit in and around Almora are the ancient temples of Jageshwar Dham at a distance of 37kms .The Kesar Devi Mandir 13 kms, away. Chitai Temple at 8km and the Nanda Devi Temple situated above the Mall road in Almora. The famous Binsar wild life sanctuary is nearby at 20 kms. You can also make a day trip to Ranikhet 46kms away. Having left the bustle of city life behind, it is quiet and serene here. The air smells fresh and delicious, cool and crisp. The heart is on a song and the soul is at peace.

On arrival at the property, we were welcomed by the breathtaking views of the surrounding ranges and the valley. The property itself is a heritage one with the feels of an old British bungalow but still has luxurious amenities. The property owners Shekhar Sir and Vineeta Mam, are very warm hosts and a delight to interact with. This hilltop homestay is situated in the cantonment area, and you are greeted by ever-smiling Prakash bhaiya, who makes sumptuous meals. Another fun company are the two dogs, Yuri and Olly, loving and playful. They became instant friends with our 2-year-old. Pictures cannot justify the beauty of this place, from food to the views, and this place is just phenomenal. Away from the hustle-bustle of the city, this place is perfect for unwinding and relaxing.

Wonderful place, nicely done interiors, huge lawns, awesome food and hospitality was superb. The staff and owners are very warm and welcoming so much that we felt being in company of extended family! Location is very strategic, surrounded with trails for nature walk. Very safe and pleasant like own home, we didn't bother to use lockers or even room locks. Prakashji, the care taker and in-house chef, along with his staff took every care to make our stay special. Don't miss to ask for banana-walnut cake with custard, and freshly baked pizza made by him when u visit Deodar homestay!
