Lovely location in Las Lajas, views were beautiful, room was very large and clean and included a small fridge with beverages for purchase. Breakfast was huge and yummy! It included coffee, juice, eggs, toast, fruit, meat, cheese, yogurt, and more! Service was outstanding! We highly recommend.

The Las Lajas beach is famous for its 20 km of black sand. Finca Buena Vista is outside of the actual town (which is not on the beach) and, as the name Finca suggests, it is in the countryside. The rooms have a patio that overlooks a quiet, very pleasant area. The most attractive aspect is the quiet during the week; apparently people only go to the beach on the weekend. We were there during the week, and recommend that.
The rooms are pleasant, comfortably sized with a shared patio that looks over the delicious pool; this area is quite warm during the mid-day. One uncomfortable thing is that the patio is shared and if you get near someone who needs to deliver important instructions to his family, you get to hear all about it. The spectacular breakfast is served at your table on the patio. The people who care for the Finca, native German speakers, create some sort of pate or cream cheese or other that is always fun to try.
The wifi situation for our room was quite difficult: it's often slow (no surprise) and parts of the room receive the signal, parts don't. After all, it's out in the countryside.
Restaurants in the town or at the beach resort are quite good; had an amazing fish dinner at the local food restaurant in Las Lajas. One of those where we didn't know the language, didn't know what we were going to get and received a wonderfully prepared large fish. Ask the proprietor about the Panamanian food restaurant in Las Lajas. At the Italian place we had an great experience listening to the toteron: amazing sound from insects.

We stayed here 2 nights on our way to Boquete. This B&B (4 rooms) is a few blocks from the main town on a dirt road (passable w/o a 4-wheel drive in rainy November) on a hill with beautiful views. The rooms were large and very pretty, with a covered patio in front of each room looking out over the hills We would sit there in the mornings for coffee and breakfast and watch the large flocks of noisy green parrots fly by. The breakfasts are very generous - eggs, bread, cold cuts, cheeses, yogurt, juice and coffee. Uwe and Berit have delicious goulash available all day for $3.50 a bowl. There is an above ground pool on site and a covered ranchito with hammocks for relaxing. Mila, Uwe and Berit's housekeeper is very sweet and bent over backwards to make us feel at home. We were looking for a place where we had made reservations for dinner, and having trouble finding it in the dark on our way back after our day trip. Uwe went out of his way to show us the way in his own vehicle (with us following him). Berit is also a masseuse and you can book a massage with her. The hotel is about 8 km from Las Lajas Beach, a very long and wide cocoa-sand beach. We were there on a Tuesday and it was practically deserted except for a bunch of kids playing soccer in front of Casa Laguna. The town itself is very sleepy and low key - not much to do there, especially at night, but the area is changing with new bed and breakfasts and restaurants starting to pop up both on the beach and in town. The hotel had satellite TV (Spanish language channels only) but it wasn't working during our stay. The wifi worked great. Uwe can help arrange day trips, however, and provide advice. We took a day trip to Boca Chica (about 1 hr 15 min away) where we hired a local water taxi to take us out to Los Bolanos Island, where we had the gorgeous white-sand beach and island all to ourselves.

Highly recommended

I like to think we give a fair review for most places we visit. Staying in the Las Lajas area we decided to have a walk and explore the local area. As it was very hot we saw the sign for Finca Buena Vista and thought we would just have a look. On arriving at reception near midday we simply asked if it was possible to have a drink, even just water. We were told in no uncertain terms that, and I quote, " THIS IS A BED AND BREAKFAST WITH NO RESTAURANT " .
If that was the case, we were only asking for a cold drink. Hardly customer service, is it. Had the reaction been different we would have agreed with the other posters but they didn't know, we may have booked for a later date. But not now.

My wife and I stayed at Finca Buena Vista last week. It was the highlight of the two weeks we spent travelling in Panama! First off, Uwe and his wife are wonderful people and there is a high correlation between guest hosts and amazing guest experiences. They treat you warmly and sincerely care about you.

The rooms are beautiful, have great views of the surrounding hills and also have cable tv (it was raining a lot when we were there). The breakfast was the best I have had at a bed and breakfast ever...we spent the rest of both days remembering it fondly!

The Las Lajas beach runs along 20 kms (12 miles) of coastline and is a short drive away. We were there on a weekend and only saw about ten people on the sand all day. Las Lajas itself is not a rowdy party town...quite the opposite! So I would recommend this destination for couples and families, but not for single travellers looking to have fun and hook up.

Uwe and his wife offer goulash (at only US$3.50 a bowl) every night. Don't miss it...and do remind them that goulash is Hungarian (my mother's parents came from Hungary and we cannot let the Germans claim over national dish!).

As this is a small place in a small town, the housekeeper impacts more on your stay than normal. She is also very sweet. She got my wife (who is Brazilian) to teach her some samba steps at breakfast. These kind of things do not happen at Hampton Inns. ;-)

Our only complaint was that it rained the first day. Uwe promised us sunshine the next morning and did not defraud us! So if you are in the Las Lajas area, check out this relaxing finca with the charismatic owners...but phone in advance and ask Uwe to use his karma on the weather before clouds can form!

Beautiful boutique B&B/hotel! Uwe, Berit and Mila doted on us. Rooms are very clean and fresh. View is gorgeous! The breakfast is amazing...fresh fruit, moles and wonderful coffee. We had only planned to stay one night en route to Boquete. We disliked the bustling pace and tourist-feel of Boquete, once there; so, we canceled our reservation in Boquete and drove back to Finca Buena Vista for one more night or relaxing solitude.

Well....
There Are a Few experiences in Life's Adventures that are worth doing twice.
And La Finca Buena Vista has been such a thing for me.
I had a rough visit to Las Lajas beach 5 years ago, we caught a holiday!
LOUD beach scene lasted for days on end.
Luckily there was a bar owner who suggested a retreat up near town, a new B&B that was newly started by a recent transplant couple from Germany.
At that point, for me.... ANYTHING!!!
It was like Heaven having a place to retreat from humanity, and beautiful new rooms. We were the only visitors... (were they really open!!!?) Quality of life was restored! (Wait... Every one shows you views of sunsets, BUT... when people gather in the pool to view sunrise together, is that AMAZING!??? -- OK I am not a morning person, But, this was Gorgeous!)
---Fast forward 5 years....
Now I was planning a return visit with a 'first time visitor'....
Where could I possibly score a '10' with an accommodation???
I contacted Uwe, and found only one room left in our schedule and theirs!!! - "SCORE!"
In the last 5 years things have definitely been going 'their way', Expansion, experience, a pool, better connections with the other business owners made our visit as smooth as silk!
When a hotel owner advises you to eat in a certain place, you wonder... Hmmm... (Or I do...)
But I took the advice...
20 minutes after I was seated in Naturamente Restaurant, the same owner was seated 2 tables from me, with his lovely wife, in time for the fantastic sunset....
These folks know what they are doing, they are passionate about their results (I say Success) they are a great resource. Their driveway needs a little work, but so does mine. If they can make space for you, do it!

we stayed for two nights in this beautifull situated B&B near the beaches of Laslajas. The room is spacious and fully equipped with A/C, ceiling fan, refrigerator and coffee machine. The bed is luxurious and there are enough seats and tables. Breakfast is served at the time requested on the porch and is as a breakfast shoud be. You can order soup and sandwiches in the afternoon to survive a sudden "need for food' attack. In Laslajas there are enough restaurants to dine. on top of this there is a swimming pool to cool down. The best thing however in this B&B are the owners and the staff. Supportive, kind and above all interested in the well being of their guests. Needless to say that this is one of Panama's best B&B's !!

We stayed at Finca Buena Vista for two nights, en route to Boquete from Panama City. I recommend this stop for everyone making this trip; it's a GREAT way to break up the travels. Had we known in advance what we would experience as guests, more time would have been budgeted.

During our stay in July, the husband and wife owners were back in Germany, so their 23-year-old son, Sebastian, was our host. He was fantastic, going way out of his way to shuttle us around, arrange fishing, and prepare us great cocktails and exquisite breakfasts (see “BuenaVista was our Buena Fortuna!” review for breakfast details). He spoke excellent English and it was an absolute pleasure to chat with him.

The place itself is very new and absolutely beautiful, both in the actual construction and the tasteful decor. Throw in a quiet location with stunning views and you have the recipe for success. Did I mention the hot showers? We couldn't believe the bang we got for our buck.

Sebastian had to leave for an appointment before our departure, so an employee, I think her name was Mila?, breakfasted us and arranged a taxi back to San Felix. She was also an engaging sweetheart and made a real effort to make us comfortable and to ensure that we understood the details of the bus system and how to get along to Boquete.

As borderline budget travelers, the room at Buena Vista was the nicest in which we've ever stayed. The service was impeccable and the locale was stunning and serene. We miss it already. Cheers to Finca Buena Vista.

We are just back from a wonderful 16-day trip through Pacific Panama. One of our objectives was to perform due diligence on an investment in mixed hardwood forest land. We chose to work through a company named ForestFinance which owns plantations around the small town of Las Lajas, which is located just over an hour west of Santiago (Panama’s third largest city).

Las Lajas is just “down the road” (8 km.) from the longest beach in Central America, 20km. of wonderful sand which is well over 100 meters wide at low tide. This is ranching country; on every hand one sees low-stress Brahman cattle contentedly grazing on rich pasture land.

We had asked about a place to stay in Las Lajas, and boy, did we ever hit the jackpot! Our contacts directed us to the Finca BuenaVista, just a few hundred meters from the main street in town. When we arrived, we thought we had died and gone to Heaven. (www.finca-buenavista-laslajas.com).

BuenaVista opened its doors in January 2010. Built and owned by a lovely German couple, Uwe and Berit Nebel, the Finca is built on the shoulder of a hill and faces northeast across country so beautiful it takes your breath away. Sitting on our patio the first morning at breakfast, we looked across hills covered by mist to the mountains on the horizon; without thinking, both of us blurted out: “It’s just like watching Out of Africa” (without Streep and Redford, of course).

Uwe owned a construction company in Germany, which accounts for the five-star-quality of the buildings at the Finca. Attention to detail and craftsmanship of the highest order are hallmarks of German building in general, and Uwe and Berit took great pains to insure that the buildings of BuenaVista were constructed in this tradition.

The rooms are huge by Panama hotel or B&B standards, about 30 square meters each. Some have lofts where a couple of kids can sleep. Each room is beautifully and tastefully appointed and so clean one could eat off of the floor.

Each room opens in back to a covered porch with The View facing the mountains; breakfast is served here, and it is awesome! High-test Panama coffee (grown just up the road in Boquete), fresh OJ, a plate of mixed local fruit (pineapple, papaya with limes), home-baked dark German bread, local jam and cold cuts, eggs “a tu gusto” and homemade cheese spreads – can we do this again, PLEASE???

The innkeepers are happy to arrange for local tours (fishing, boat tours, visits to indigenous Indian settlements in the mountains) or to provide a light snack in the evening (small extra charge). All this, and the price is right….you get five-star value for a two-star cost. Even though they have only been open this year, they are already more than half booked for 2011, so get in touch early. Las Lajas makes a wonderful way to break a driving trip from Panama City to the mountain hideouts of Volcan or Boquete (or vice-versa), so plan to spend a couple of days there and you will see the real, un-touristy part of this lovely country.
