To start with, the staff made our stay excellent - from when we arrived an hour early because of the rain and they met us at the car with an umbrella and let us check in early, through to providing us with extra bed linen when our son dirtied some, and just being very friendly - this was a highlight. The location isn’t in the main touristy part of Toya, and for us that was an advantage. It’s in a more local part of Toya town so the views remain excellent but you are close to more local cafes, famous local donut shops and more off the beaten track places which we loved exploring. (Definitely easier if you have a car I imagine!) Facilities wise, our room was great for a family with two young kids, the outside bath in the room was a special experience and the main hotel onsen was a good size and not crowded. Lots of nice little touches like a huge bowl of fresh cookies in the room and a nice coffee machine - so from reading previous reviews I definitely think this hotel is taking feedback on board and doing a great job. Dinner was a set course and breakfast was buffet style. They did a great job of changing out items because we’d let them know of an allergy in advance and they provided full kids chairs and eating implements. Great stay!

Hotel design was beautiful and I liked the fact that hotel took the feedback from previous customers added safety measures to the sharp edges in the room. As others have mentioned, some people may feel uncomfortable using balcony bath as they do face some houses (see my photos, luckily I was in the furthest room so it was ok) One thing I did not like, was having served shark fin. I think it's unethical and it's entirely possible to make amazing dishes without it. The sharks are pulled out of the water, the fins are cut off with a knife and the bleeding shark torso is thrown back into the ocean -- alive -- to await a painful death. Not cool. Also food was not good...I wanted to like it but chef needs to be changed... Overall, it was worth it for the room and the view. 良いところ 部屋が最高、部屋からの眺めも素敵。スタッフも丁寧 悪いところ ご飯が美味しくない。。。露天風呂周りにクモの巣が大量にあったので掃除してほしい

A hotel hotel offering excellent lake view. Poor dinner though. Didn’t expect Chinese food in a Japanese onsen hotel.... not worth the price certainly.. Front desk staff is very helpful and friendly though... and located in a remote location in Lake Toya... no where to go nearby...

WE Hotel Experience We wanted to view the architecture of this pretty new hotel which seemed to be located in the middle of no where in Toya. We were lost off track several times and ended up in areas which was snow everywhere as we cannot see any defined roads. WE Hotel is designed by the same architect who did the new Tokyo Olympic Stadium. On arrival in the thick of winter, after much ado, as we got lost a few times even though we had GPS assistance, we were greeted with a special ambience in the hotel. If you are visiting fir the first time, you would be "wowed" by all that you see. Especially the interior design treatment of the EZO Restaurant and the Bar area, decked with barrels on ceiling and bottom of bar counter. Room was interesting - you need to experience it to enjoy it. Description cannot convey the enjoyment felt. It was simple indulgence just soaking in the wooden bath tub in my room balcony, overlooking the pretty wintry scenery of Lake Toya. However, the hotel dinner is far too expensive - LACKED VALUE FOR MONEY!!! The food served was tacky and unrefined. It also lacked refinement in taste and skill. For this amount of money spent (EZO Restaurant mid-priced course set dinner @ 18,000 yen per pax before tax), I could get a lovely French course set dinner in Hirafu's Kamimura, which served one of the best French fine dine. The food served was simply heavenly and this is what value for money is. You must enjoy what you pay for! The management is also lacking in details as its outdoor onsen was soo cold we could not use it. Being experienced onsen users, we were surprised by this low level glitch. After feedback, then only did the staff realise that the outdoor onsen was far too cold. Thus, we lost the night time slot to soak and rejuvenate in the outdoor onsen after dinner. We only realised how wonderful the outdoor onsen was the next morning but there was little time left for us to enjoy it and bask in its 'hot' water. Such a shame! Breakfast buffet spread was small but acceptable. Their pastries were delicious, as in all of Hokkaido, with land flowing with good milk and butter. The WE Hotel explerience would fave been even better if they had strong FB support and a team who cares about details.

Hotel is new with spacious room, lake view, but the rate is a bit pricey. With this room rate, food is no surprise. Set dinner, Chinese style, shrimp and scallop are the appetizer and main course, no other food choice nor wagyu beef, buffet breakfast, more like western style. If you are expecting Chinese Chef, Onsen hotel other than the traditional Japanese style, tired about the Japanese Hot Spring bath decoration (eg. woods, stones etc) and want to try something new, you can have a try. Staff are nice and warm welcoming, they can speak Japanese, Putonghua, English and Cantonese as well.

The hotel is beautiful, well designed and it makes you feel really luxurious once you stepped inside the lobby. They provided high-graded amenties in your room, and they have coffee maker in your room so you can have ur coffee anytime that you like. And the view of Lake Toya from the room is really exceptional. So if you like a hotel that can provided a beautiful view, various of facilities that you can experience (the onsen, the bar, game room etc.) and the best of sleeping quality, WE Hotel Toya is really a place for you. The only thing that I didn't like is the location. Even though the hotel is located in quiet area of Lake Toya but it's very far from the place they have the fireworks display. We had to drive around 20 mins for the fireworks so if you don't have a car it might be a bit difficult to watch the fireworks

This is a nice hotel in a beautiful location. The hotel itself is in a quiet village overlooking Lake Toya, rather than in the busier town of Lake Toya Onsen. I think this is better than being in the town as it’s very quiet and suits this style of retreat hotel. Only downside of this is that if you go out for dinner it’s a 20 minute drive into town. The building has been exquisitely fitted out with polished concrete and bare wood, it feels quite Scandinavian and very modern. The room was really spacious and had the beautiful view of the lake, really a lovely space to spend time. The staff are very helpful, almost too much for me as I prefer a more hands off approach, but it’s probably normal for a hotel of this level.

Great hotel. Beautifully designed. Location is somewhat distant. The view on the lake however is beautiful. The rooms is super spacious and very nice. All details are thought off and matched on the design of the hotel. We loved the bath on the balcony. Breakfast was really great. A wide variety of asian and western choices.

We stayed a night at WE Hotel Toya after an 8-hour delayed flight from Kuala Lumpur and a drive to Lake Toya via Noborietsu. It was a long day, and I was glad we decided to splurge for the night and stay at these very stylish digs. The check in and service was quick, friendly and efficient throughout, and I loved that the lobby entrance features a Kaws sculpture. All the corners of the hotel are very nicely designed, and the rooms are equally spacious and airy, with a modern minimalist nod to traditional Japanese design, and incredible views of Lake Tōya to boot. The bed is big and comfortable, while the bath area has double vanities, a separate bathroom and shower, as well as a tub on the balcony, which we did not use. It’s one of the few hotels in Japan I’ve been to that offers body lotion as part of the amenities, and the hotel’s wooden minimalist theme follows through with the rest of amenities including the toothbrush, razor set and hairbrush. I am not ashamed to say I ditched my current hairbrush for the one in the room. The room also has a good amount of plug points on the desk, by the bedside, other areas, as well as usb points. There were only a couple of issues I had - one was that the hot water for the handheld shower is a bit temperamental and would get colder or hotter throughout, although not by extremes. However this did not happen with the rain shower. Also, the sink taps are so close to the sink that filling the kettle was almost an exercise in futility. I ended up using the glass provided to fill the kettle. Anyone with large hands or attempting to wash anything larger than a small mug may find it tricky too, so just bear that in mind. Another thing to note is that the single lane driveway only goes up to the lobby. If you’re driving, you will need to reverse out or reverse in. Or you can park and carry your suitcases up a couple flights of stairs. Overall, I enjoyed my short stay at We Hotel Toya, and wish we had more than one night there to just relax and enjoy the room and Lake Tōya.

This is from the booking.com review that I wrote on this hotel. Highlights: - large and comfortable rooms with outdoor bath and if you have the lake view on a higher floor it is stunning without power lines - beautiful hotel and facilities. - not a 4 star on booking, this is a 5 star - great breakfast, ok dinner - remote location and few other tourists - English speaking staff are available - I can’t emphasize how awe inspiring the architecture and design of the hotel are. - Every detail has been accounted for down to the wooden electronic keys. Downside: I never write reviews on Booking but this needs one in my opinion. The staff is not very professional for such a high class property. They give you next to no information about basic things like the shuttle services, how to operate the facilities of the room, etc. The “information booklet” is also hidden in the closet and I had to search for it. You have to ask for everything so beware because they don’t tell you anything. Hopefully they will read this feedback and improve their process. They’re a new hotel so perhaps their process will improve in time. The location is awful. It is super far from the train station. However, the view is spectacular so it is worth it. It cost me nearly JPY 7000 to get there in a 35 minute taxi ride. But there is a shuttle so call in advance or message them on booking.com but had I known and had it been communicated to me, I could have taken advantage of the service so definitely ask. They also are not Japanese. This has an impact on the vibe of the place and the level of customer service because the work ethic of most staff in hotels of this level usually go above and beyond. I have spent the last 10 years coming to Japan, speaking the language, going on delegations and on extensive leisure trips so I can say this with some authority. This place is also expensive for what it is. I think 20,000 JPY is a fair price considering the remote location. I paid 39,000 and I thought that wasn’t warranted. So if you find it for that price, at 20k then go for it. Please train your staff, WE Hotel Toya. The property is so gorgeous but the strange staff really ruins the place.
