How to find the right word to introduce La Bouitte? I'm not even sure there is a superlative strong enough in any dictionary to transcribe our unparalleled emotion following our recent stay in this adorable Bouitte (little house in savoy dialect). We recently spent 4 nights in this fantastic place and despite an extensive experience of the finest and most exclusive hotels around the world, we have been impressed, enchanted, amazed by this little paradise divinely located in St Marcel, an authentic village of the 3 Valleys area. Far to be just a remarkable mountain retreat, La Bouitte is a place with soul and spirit because before to be an hotel (and one of the best restaurant in the world with 3 Michelin stars), it's a fantastic family story, the one of Meilleur family, started in 1976 when René and Marie Louise welcomed skiers for mountain style lunches. Little by little, they pushed forward their plans, build new houses, open more rooms and when their son Maxime joined them, they have upgraded everything in the family house and they have decided to start a new culinary adventure acclaimed today by the finest palates of the whole world. The Meilleur family is just wonderful and they welcome guests like friends. Their house reflects so much happiness and Marie Louise has designed each room with an intense passion for local pieces of furniture and art. Everything is so cozy, so beautiful, so charming. We stayed in a Jr Suite named Anais which has been at origin, the bedroom of the owners. It was the dreamy room you can expect in mountains and we hardly left our little home. Comfort is exceptional and the bathtub with windows opening on the stunning countryside was a delight. It's really a true five stars hotel but without pretention, without any snobbish touch, just the objective of the whole family to make you as happy as possible and it worked impeccably. When we arrived, a waiter delivered a more than delicious wild mountain blueberries tart to share and a refreshing smoked citrus tea , a recipe of Marie Louise. Perfect sense for details making you so good and feeling so special. Staff at La Bouitte is exceptional driving the level of service to the highest surrounding peak. Everyone in the house is so kind, so smily, so attentive and responsive, so professional but warm in the same time and they even anticipate every need before you know yourself you need it. This is what I could call a "palace family service", just outstanding. It is so not often than a whole team has truly the only goal to turn each of your dreams into reality but this is really what's happened at La Bouitte. To give an example of the incredible involvement of everyone at La Bouitte, one evening when the gastronomic restaurant was closed, a shuttle car of the hotel drove us to the nearby village in the bistronomic restaurant (excellent as well...) Simple & Meilleur and surprisingly, Marie Louise and René were having dinner as well. When we finished dinner, the team couldn't reach shuttle driver and showing that, René interrupted his dinner to drive is back to the hotel with his own car... where else in the world you can see that... we felt so honoured but this 3 stars Michelin chef is so unpretentious and adorable we felt with a friend much more than with a culinary star. Talking about food, La Bouitte is incredible... you want to say "yum yum" all the time starting with an impressive breakfast full of products of the best quality ever... breads are the best ever, local cured meats, yogurts and cheeses simply perfect, sweet and savory homemade delicacies abundant and so delicious. There was even a chocolate mousse for those (like me...) who can't resist to the temptation and I almost finished the jar... with a glass of fresh fruit juice or a glass of crispy local white wine for the most adventurous and you can't find a better way to start mornings and be ready to go and explore the lovely countryside, a picnic prepared by the chefs in your bag. Dinners at gastronomic restaurant is an experience to remember but I'll write a separate post about the restaurant which is so great as well... So yes, clearly run to La Bouitte because this is one of these secret places where you will understand what means HAPPINESS and I don't know many places where you're so well treated and pampered. On top of it, for this amount of great things, La Bouitte is pretty affordable and it is definitively a place where we will return as much as we can...…
Our room was extremely comfortable and perfectly equipped, very quiet, everything you'd expect at this level. Maybe a bit small for a 5 stars but this is quite understandable given the peculiar architecture of the hotel. The small spa is very welcoming, the breakfast is exceptional and the service, in line with that of the restaurant is sophisticated bof not pretentious. Price (almost!) reasonable for the lev of the prestations. Absolutely recommended.
We stayed in a suite, sadly for only one night. Everything about the hotel is superb, luxurious and the highest quality. The customer service from all staff members that we met was exceptional. They couldn't have been more helpful. The food and wine in the 3 Michelin * restaurant was, as expected, at an entirely new level. And the suite was spotlessly clean and extremely comfortable. We appreciated the pastries in our room on arrival and also our leaving gifts which included a large pastry, water for our journey, a Relais & Châteaux guide and the menu from our dinner on the previous evening. We travel a fair bit but this was the best hotel we have ever stayed in. Bravo et merci!
We stayed at La Bouitte for two days and I can safely say I have never experienced the all-around quality of this hotel. The amount of detail they put into everything without making you feel uncomfortable is surreal. And the food? From their three starred Michelin restaurant, to their breakfast buffet, to the pastries they treat you to in your room and when you go away, it was one of the most delicious and fresh I've had in France. Finally, the place is so quiet and peaceful, the staff is always smiling and make you feel at home. It's the perfect place to recharge, I totally recommend!
There are several worthy choices in the Savoie region but La Bouitte perhaps puts together best the combination of a breathtaking setting, brilliant accommodations, a 3 star Michelin dining experience and the lovely hospitality of the Meilleur family and their remarkable staff. No matter the season, La Bouitte should merit a visit whenever visiting this truly beautiful region of France.
