We stayed here for the first night of our trip - having flown in to Kalamata. It set the mood for our holiday perfectly. A warm welcome, a fabulous maisonette with everything we needed and towels for the private beach just across the road. You could request what you wanted for breakfast and where you wanted breakfast so it could be brought to you. We opted for the poolside with a view across the sea. Absolutely perfect. I would definitely recommend this place.

The hotel is located 10 km south of Kalamata along the coastal strip. The beach being across the road. Our room 101 was located at pool level, it was large as seen in the photo's, it has table & chairs, nice size shower , mini fridge, sink & small Hot plate. Limited cooking equipment including a jug is available from reception. They need to add a tea towel in the room. Please note there are no toiletries or tea coffee in the rooms, first hotel we have come across with no soaps shampoo's etc. The staff are very friendly & obliging. Breakfast is served in your room or beside the pool from the selection you make from, Bread white or wholemeal, cake, cruskettes jam & honey Boiled or fried eggs Orange juice , tea & coffee Cooks surprise, ours was cheese & spinach slice day 1 & cheese & local greens slice day 2, not our liking. There are a few more hot items available which you pay for.

Dear David H, At first we would like to thank you for the detailed and generous review! The whole team received with a smile your kind words and George, the chef, promised next time you stay with us to get you with a different breakfast surprise! As you mentioned, there are no coffee or tea in the room, however there are toiletries such as shampoo & shower gel (2 in 1) and cream soap in bottle. We are looking forward to welcoming you back here, in Mikri Mantinia. Kind regards, Michalis Vassiliou Front Office

This was our second stay in Mantinia Bay Hotel. Last time our room was very comfortable, and now we got the same apartment again. We do not know by chance or deliberately. About the breakfast, I should have to write an ode. We ordered it in the evening before, and they bring it up to our room the next morning. Of course not just what we asked for, but also enough food to supply an army. When we said that it is too much, the answer was that we Greeks have that kind of breakfast. The problem is that many fresh, crunchy mouthwatering pastries are hard to counter, and after two days I was able to pull up my zipper on my trousers only with difficulties. That's all about breakfast. The Nautica Bay Cafe was not open yet, but instead of it, the young man at the reception recommended the opposite Touristiko. It was probably recently opened since we didn't remember to see it before. Tripadvisor doesn't know about it yet, and when I requested a listing, I did not get an answer. Neither positive nor negative. It is an excellent place with good food and drinks, and a stunning sunset. That one comes free of charge. Ones we tried this restaurant, we didn't go anywhere else to have dinner. We found the Mantinia Bay hotel a very suitable place to explore the southern part of Peloponnese from there. Since we still want to see a few more places in that area, most probably next year we’ll stay in this hotel again. "Don't go off the beaten path."

+ Small and family runned hotel located in a quiet, calm suburb to Kalamata. Personal and effective service. + Nice pool and stone beach right across the street. + Good breakfast and okej wi-fi. - Plastic glasses by the beach. More enviromental and ecological friendly focus would be great.

I had not booked any hotel for 1 night and should travel from Costa Navarino to Athen. Since Kalamata was on the way I searched tripadvisor and found this small hotel. I would never have found it if it had not been for tripadvisor. It were so nice and cute. The owner checked us in and were so friendly. He told us about the olive oil he sold in the reception. It came from his own farm and of course we bought some. We have not tried it yet. Accross the street we found the best restaurant that were soo cosy and had great food. I can really recomend it.

Dear Ingridericson, Thank you for staying with us and for mentioning the close relationship of the owners with the olive oil. It is a true story that the family who runs the hotel is involved for a very long time with growing, collecting and picking the olive oil, so they can answer to any type of questions guests may have about the most famous product of our land. We hope you enjoy the taste of this oil variety and welcome you back next year to offer you a new tin! Best regards, Michalis Vassiliou Front Office

Mantinia Bay Hotel is located about 8km South of Kalamata (they indicate less that in their website but that must be as the crow flies) so it will only work for you if you have a car. We were there in November and so all the beach restaurants were closed. For a decent lunch/dinner one had to drive to the city. Nevertheless the hotel was just great. We got a large room with kitchenette located adjacent to the pretty pool. A decent breakfast (that one could select from a menu sheet) was brought directly to the room. The bathroom was large and there was a small terrace with garden view. The hotel maintains a small snack bar and a small shop with local food items in the lobby area. They have limited but free private parking on the side of the hotel, though I imagine it will be a bit difficult to get in and out if the lot is full. The staff barely spoke English but was very friendly. Given the size of the rooms and the direct access to the beach across the road, this place is ideal for families. The only downside were the vegetation fires that farmers burned in the vicinity and that made the breathing at night difficult as the smoke descended on the landscape and crept into the room. Otherwise highly recommended.

Dear ForeignObserver2, We would like to thank you for the positive and detailed feedback. It is true that during winter time most of the tavernas are closed in the area, although from Thursday to Sunday guests may find at least one restaurant which is open across the hotel. Speaking about the staff, please note that during low season less employees work, so we apologize for any incovenienced caused and your comment will be taken into account for future improvement. It will be with pleasure to welcome you back in the summer here, in Mikri Mantinia. Kind regards, Michalis Vassiliou Front Office

The suite was perfect for our family of 3. 2 full beds, spacious, clean with little kitchen. The staff really made us feel special, offering to serve breakfast in our room or poolside. We had dinner on the beach watching the sunset, the hotel restaurant served us there. Lovely, friendly staff. It was nice to be out of the main part of Kalamata, yet close enough. 10/10!

Definitely not at all what we mean when we say a 4star hotel regarding services and facilities/infrastructure!!! We did not like the hotel in general. We booked a two-areas room since we had a 18months baby. The hotel in its internal and external areas lacks fully in ergonomics. No elevator to reach the level of our apartment whereas we had to walk by the pool in the base of the showers to use stairs and arrive in the apartment. The apartment had a balcony with no view and we could be seen constantly (no privacy) by everyone going to their rooms so we had to have all day long the heavy curtains closed. We paid 148,5Euro per night incl. the very poor breakfast that included for example prebaked cake from the supermarket. If you needed for example milk with cereals you needed to pay extra!!!. The personnel generally friendly but unwilling to take any initiative, e.g. all lights open and close with the use of the key. When you take out the key you do not see not even outside the roo. We had to complain for somenting that is wrong to the reception to give us a spare key to use in order to have light to be able to see and enter in the apartment. Additionally we had a lot of baggage and things of the child with us. Nobody offered to help us when we arrived. When we departed my husband asked for help since he was extremely annoyed of the amount we paid versus the available services(I had made the reserviation based on what I had read in the internet and the fact that we spoke about a 4star hottel).Poor Wifi in our room very small TV. Parking in the building open until 23.00hrs, cuisine open until 23.00hrs. Not at all recommended.

Trying to avoid staying in major cities, I selected Mantinia Bay Hotel based on the many good reviews. We were not disappointed. The accommodation was excellent; spacious, comfortable and clean. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. There is a lovely beach, with free access to sun lounges etc, and several cafes/tavernas locally. It is only a short drive outside of Kalamata, so it is probably preferable to have a car, although we didn't look into using local transport or taxis.
