What an eventful 3 days we've had. Definitely things ticked off the bucket list. The break included 2 nights in a lodge and 1 night in a glass igloo. We also did the husky ride / reindeer ride & snowmobile experience. Here's my review broken down : The lodge was lovely with it's own private sauna Bed a little on the hard side for me Having read previous reviews we didn't expect too much of the food and rightly so - this was the most disappointing part of the holiday. The husky ride was great fun The reindeer ride - be sure to check the seating area, we ended up with black oil over our clothes after this trip / or at least take up the offer of wearing their overalls. Snowmobile - also good fun The glass igloos - at last a comfortable bed. A compact area with wc & wash basin. Showers available in a nearby building. Great holiday , but I feel was a little over priced Highlight - saw the northern lights…
The place is very big and in the kelo west village have a glass ceiling ti try to stay warm inside to wait for aurora. And it was cold place but inside the cabin is quite warm . Overall feel it is a nice place to stay thou a little expensive. A nice experience. But the food at restaurant is lousy. The chicken I cannot eat finished, the breakfast also not tasty. If only there is aurora will be nice . Hope there will be even more perfect. Think if 5 people stay will worth the price It was even nice to have own suana and a kitchen to cook soup And see ice from warm room from the igloo
We had an amazing time on our visit! The staff was extremely friendly and helpful and the cabin was clean, cozy and comfortable. We had an incredible time dog sledding, reindeer sledding and snowmobiling. Sadly the Northern Lights did not show up but we did not care as we had so much fun! Great place.
We stayed at Kakslauttanen Arctic resort in early March 2023. It was a fabulous holiday! The hotel was beautiful, the main entrance and restaurant are full of nordic charm. Some people have complained about the food but to me it was just fine, warm wholesome and nutritious. I would suggest if you are looking for gourmet food don't go to the artic! Every evening these was live music from a harp or flute. The staff at all times were a delight, and went the extra mile when my wife left her purse on our flight. The rooms were excellent, we stayed two nights in a log cabin and one in an igloo. The cabin was vey spacious , with large double, and bunk beds along with a wet room and our own sauna. The igloos are spectacular but very small if you have children with you (there are four beds) don't take all your luggage! The whole resort is very idyllic with crisp snow and attractive buildings. The Christmas part of the resort was closed when we went ,but we enjoyed walking around it, especially the viewing tower. We took part in three activities, husky safari, Reindeer aurora hunt and snow mobiles. For the Huskies and snow mobiles you should be honest with yourself, I was just the right side of old and knackered (60) to be able to control the sled. However it was a fabulous, exciting and scary experience. We did manage to see the aurora when in the forest with the reindeer. Overall highly recommended although I think we should have stayed an extra day as it is a lot of travelling for just 3 nights.…
What a fantastic stay at the Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort - 3 nights spent and had an incredible time. Stayed at the start of March 2023 with the hope of seeing the Northern Lights and trying new experiences and we absolutely were not disappointed. The hotel itself is all on its own just past Saariselka and we organised transfers from the airport to the resort which did make it far easier and less stressful upon arrival. The hotel itself is 5 star quality given the location and feels magical. We arranged our whole trip through a tour company just for context. Pros: - Magical resort in the middle of the Arctic Circle, remote and picturesque views and surroundings that truly felt like Winter Wonderland and Lapland. - Beautifully designed resort with huge log cabins, igloos and kelos (igloo and cabin combined) that made the stay for guests feel at one with the landscape while providing home comforts. For context we stayed in a cabin 2 nights and a kelo 1 night. All cabins came with a sauna which was ideal to allow you to enjoy the Finnish past time / culture and warm up from the snow. - Cabin sizes - Large with multiple amenities. Good spacing from other cabins to avoid noise pollution and give you some privacy. Cabins came with multiple beds, a kitchenet, a fire place, shower, sauna and some spare bunk beds. Ideal for a family. - Igloo Tower - Provides incredible views over the resort and for miles looking out over the Finnish landscape. Free entry was ideal. - Range of Activities - I cannot emphasise this enough - what a range of activities. You do pay for these but what an opportunity. We absolutely loved doing husky sledding, reindeer rides, snowmobiling and ice go karting. The latter my personal favourite and would recommend to anyone. We were even lucky enough to see the Northern Lights while on the reindeer trek, sitting out in a teepee in the Artic snow learning about Sami traditions. It was a real pinch me moment that we will never forget. - Staff - The majority of staff are friendly and willing to help throughout the stay. People that stood above the rest were Connie who was an absolute ball of energy, so friendly, engaging and smiley and a special shout out to Ploy for great customer service and offering an upgrade on our stay which was a complete surprise. We were so thankful and it really made our trip even better. Ana the husky sled guide was also fantastic! Very talkative and approachable and gave us great confidence in the activity. -Walks - Great availability of walks and landscape to explore and the dry cold means you don't feel frozen by the time you get back. -Equipment/Gear/Training provided - fantastic guides throughout who made sure we were informed, provided equipment and made sure we were comfortable in everything we were doing. We had a wonderful time and really appreciate your efforts, Cons - Food Quality - I won't be as harsh as some critics in reviews. Ultimately we were well fed, but it was quantity over quality. The food is okay. We were nervous when we arrived but the first night had a fantastic range and quality and breakfast throughout all 4 days we were there was fantastic and kept us fuelled for the day. Breakfast included hot food (eggs, sausages, pancakes etc), pastries, juices, salads, cheese, hams and toast and coffee. Where we were disappointed was dinner. Dinner as we progressed our stay became very average (often beige and carbs) with limited salad options. We ate fine, but considering the amount of money paid, the food quality and variety could certainly be improved (more veg and more dessert options). As an example, dessert for the 3 nights was night 1 a ramekin of chocolate mousse, night 2 ice cream and then night 3 a ramekin of chocolate mousse. - A further concern was the hot food was kept hot using heat plates and heated water below. Often the food cooled so you could be eating seafood and meat that had considerably cooled off because the water wasn't kept warm below. - The igloos/kelo igloos were magical and an unforgettable experience. However, the outside lights of the kelo cabins remain on all night. One improvement would be to turn the outside lights off once it hits late evening/guests have returned for the night to minimise light pollution when you are trying to look up at the stars from the igloo. Overall a great stay caused by staff, activities and the views however disappointed by the food. Shoutouts and thanks to Ana (husky sled guide), Ploy and Connie! Thank you so much!…
stay in a kelo igloo. definitely worth the extra cosr. they're supeerb! regular igloos at west village are crowded, small and not attractive. we stayed in both. huskies are great. do the day reindeer rather than night. food is good. buffet. as breakfast and dinner are included we didn't even bother with lunch but it is affordable. staff great and helpful.
Excellent Property..Paradise on earth. We stayed in Igloo and also Cabin. Igloo and Cabin was very good with all facilities with sauna. Very good front desk staff and support service staff. Sauna was also very good.Excellent breakfast and Dinner. Overall Excellent stay. Very Expensive.
Very friendly staff catered to your every need. From landing at Ivalo to leaving, all activities were very organised by helpful knowledgeable staff. Food was plentiful and the restaurant itself was never full or noisy. Our cabin was immaculate and warm. All utensils required for cooking and eating were there in the kitchen.
Thank you to M (forgot her name) who helped my friend who had a bad nose bleeding. From airport pick-up to room check-in, everything was good. Food at the restaurant still needs a lot of improvement. we were not disappointed in our glass igloo room and had a great time.
