We have just returned for 10 lovely days at the Kalogria Beach hotel. We love Stoupa and swimming at Kalogria and have wanted to try this accommodation for a few years. We were not disappointed we loved it and will certainly return. Everything was perfect, the rooms, staff, service and location right on the beach. It was lovely to have an early morning dip and then enjoy a delicious breakfast on the terrace. The restaurant has had a make over. It is light spacious and the food is amazing. We tried new dishes and Greek favourites and we were very impressed. A most wonderful 10 days.

We have just had the perfect week in the paradise of this amazing beach hotel. The apartment was gorgeous with a powerful shower, the most comfortable bed ever and super quick WiFi. Rena, her family and staff are simply the best. The food in the restaurant is superb. Breakfasts are free and a lovely way to start the day. The reserved sunbeds are brilliant and takes away the stress of getting a sunbed. The staff that work the beach are fantastic and really hard working. There is nothing that they haven't thought of at this amazing hotel. We have just spent a week in heaven. This is my forever venue. Steven and Tina ward.

We had a beautiful, modern room with balcony and direct seaview. The arrangement included accommodation, breakfast and umbrella and chairs at the beach. The daily contact with Rena and Kosta and their staff was warm and heartfelt as during our last stays at their hotel.

This was easily the WORST restaurant experience I have ever had and I eat out all the time. I had a severe nut allergy reaction during the meal as the king prawn spaghetti had a pesto paste in it which contained cashew nuts. The situation was even more dangerous as there are no hospitals in the area!! My Greek friend had very clearly stated my nut allergy and explained there must be no dishes containing nuts on the whole table - there was not even a language barrier. I had to pay and leave quickly to go get medication but the next morning I went to the restaurant again. The manager stated “he didn’t like how we left the restaurant”, referring to me saying “it’s not good enough, allergies are serious”. I replied that I was at risk of dying and had to leave hastily to get medication. My friends did not even finish their meals and it completely ruined our night so I said I wanted a refund for it. I felt we were met with such hostility and they blamed me for not being more careful. The waiter in Greek said we were talking “bull****” thinking we did not understand him which was extremely rude (he was not even the one who served us). The manager denied several times that there were nuts in my dish. Even though the night before the waiter brought out the pesto paste that was used and it had a massive picture of cashew nuts on it!!! A refund was issued but the lack of taking any responsibility and trying to shift blame onto me just invalidated how I was feeling and the seriousness of the situation. I have been in Greece for 2 weeks and eaten out twice daily and all other restaurants have taken my allergy very seriously apart from this one. I am still shocked by the rudeness and ignorance of the staff and I urge anyone with any allergies to not visit this restaurant.

Response from Rena Balaktaris, Owner at Kalogria Beach Hotel
Responded 22 Jan 2021
I have responded to this review previously but it is no longer on the page, I am really surprised at this. In the 35 years we have been in business, we have had only 3 bad reviews but for me this is the worse one ever. A man booked a room in a local hotel for these 5 girls and I believe that they were sent here to make trouble. The girls came from Kalamata, stayed one night and left on the 8.00am bus the following morning. As they did not stay in my hotel They are not in a position to make any comment on this site regarding the hotel. I do know that the restaurant, which is a separate business in the same place always takes great care when they are told of any allergies that the guests may have. May I add that all 5 girls looked very well both in the evening and the next morning when they came back to make further complaints. The owner of the hotel in which they stayed, told us that the girls were all fine, made a party, drank and danced all night long. Please remove this untrue review form this site.

We come to Stoupa since 35 years, and during the last 10 years we stayed at this hotel several times. We loved Stoupa already when it was just a humble small village with not so much modern amenities, but a wonderful beach with delicious taverns at the beach and in the village itself, which is a 5 minutes walk from Kalogria Beach. But now with the cozy modern Hotel Kalogria, situated directly on the beach and equipped with comfortable rooms, functioning WiFi, TV and Air Condition and a balcony in each room where you can sip your wine in the evening, and the super breakfast served on the terrace before you go 20 meters to your reserved sunbed on the beach (included in the price, like the breakfast) - what could be better? We always fly to Kalamata, and rent a car there, it is 1 hour from the airport to Stoupa, and there is reserved parking in front of the hotel, free of charge. You could also use a taxi, which costs 65 Euros one way if you book through the hotel. I really advise you to come here, it is perfect.
