Combermere Abbey is just beautiful; the set up in the north wing is so unique and well thought out. We couldn’t have asked for more! The views from the room and the completely peaceful surroundings are simply wonderful and I hope one day we get to revisit.
The use of the lounges and breakfast in the dining room are excellent. Stephan was very welcoming and we enjoyed our stay very, very much. One of the best nights sleep in years!

We had a great stay in the North Wing. The house is set in the middle of a quiet and beautiful park. The Salamanca suite is fantastic, with giant bedroom, patterned Tudor timbering to sitting room, and a bathroom where you can lie in the freestanding bath and look out of double aspect windows over the mere and parkland to the woods beyond. Stephan is an excellent host, great cooked breakfasts and a veteran of the major restoration of the house. This was a really memorable visit and we would strongly recommend the North Wing to anyone....

I stayed one night in the North Wing. Currently only one of the two rooms is being let so you have the downstairs living area to yourselves. This is a unique opportunity to stay in a designated section of a country house. The location is next to a large mere. There are also walled gardens on the estate which can be visited and there is a woodland walk.

The accommodation is excellent with a top level finish. The bathroom is spectacular overlooking the mere with swans, geese, ducks etc. I also saw a pheasant in the grounds. Breakfast was continental with a large variety of choice. A cooked breakfast is available on request. Stephan the house manager is an excellent host. Very efficient and ready to offer advise/directions on places to eat in the evening etc. Outdoors there is a designated garden area. The wifi is stable although mobile coverage is variable since you are in a rural setting.

Basically you are "Lord/Lady of the Manor" for a night!

What a rip off! Wedding guests wer charged £75 PER PERSON per night, for which we were put in little cottages. The rooms had a combination of cheap and nasty furniture along with some more attractive pieces in keeping with the supposed luxury tag. The bedrooms were freezing with inefficient wall heaters, the towels were dirty and contained hair clumps, there were cobwebs on the bedside lamps and to cap it all there was a note with a plastic bag that demanded we STRIPPED OUR OWN BEDS after our stay. For breakfast there was a budget (Lidl) breakfast hamper, not even a hot breakfast for that price.

This place can’t decide if it’s a boarding house in Skegness or a luxury wedding destination.

Thank you for your recent review. We are extremely sorry to hear about your experience of your recent stay in our Courtyard Cottages. We will be discussing your feedback with our housekeeping team regarding the cleanliness issues that you have highlighted. Regarding the heating within the cottages, we do pre-set the heaters to a comfortable level, and we do apologise that this was not sufficient for you. Detailed instructions are provided to allow you to increase the temperature for your own comfort, and a member of our team would have been more than happy to assist you with this. Whilst we are still in the midst of the Covid pandemic, and in the interest of safety for both our guests and our staff, we do request that guests are able to strip their beds prior to departure. We will also be reviewing the quality of the products provided within our Continental Breakfast Hampers to ensure that a better quality is provided in future. With best wishes, the Combermere Abbey Team.

We paid £140 per couple per night for a December wedding weekend. For this price, we expected pretty faultless accommodation. Instead, there was no hot water in any of the rooms (Crossley cottage). We complained on Saturday morning and someone came to look at it and claimed to have fixed it but nothing had changed and we had cold showers the entire stay. The maintenance man closed our room door so hard that something happened to the door knob and I couldn't get in and my partner couldn't get out of the room on the morning of the wedding when we all needed to get ready and that needed to be fixed as well while people wanted to get changed. The oven in the kitchen didn't work and the whole place was quite cold and univiting. The wedding was lovely but let down by the accommodation and definitely not worth the £280 we paid.

Had the amazing experience of staying in the Salamanca room. It’s beautiful views, gorgeous furniture and spacious rooms made it worth every single penny. Our host Stephan was so kind and look after us extremely well from start to finish, the breakfast served was faultless as was the rest of the stay. Thank you Stephan, we will be visiting again that’s for sure! Easily 6 stars this place!

Could not fault Combermere Abbey. From the warm welcome by Stephan to the excellent rooms, we had Salamanca which is full of light and elegant style, space and everything you would need for a restful and extremely comfortable stay. Beautifully decorated with an interesting history it is a special place to stay. Breakfast was provided by Stephan and we thoroughly enjoyed his stories of the restoration of the Abbey. The grounds are really beautiful and the view over the mere is stunning. Don't even think about staying anywhere else in the area. When I got home I checked my family history to find out I am a descendent of the Abbey's founder. No wonder it felt like home !

We stayed in Empress Cottage for 2 nights and what a wonderful break! The cottage is wonderful, so comfortable and well equipped set in fabulous grounds - our dogs absolutely loved it here! We had a lovely lunch at the Combermere Arms (highly recommended) and nearby Audlem is great for fresh local produce for dining in. The lady we met while checking out was so friendly as well! Wonderful, relaxing stay and we will definitely be back. Thank you!

Rented Empress Cottage to spend New Year. Set around a courtyard with other cottages it is a beautiful, extremely peaceful setting. The cottage itself was lovely...decorated to a high standard and very cosy and comfortable. Extremely comfortable bed and endless logs for the log burner. A bottle of prosecco, box of chocolates and a large bottle of fresh milk were a very welcome touch. The grounds were lovely with plenty of walks. Especially loved the walk from our cottage door through the wooded are down to the Mere.
The only thing I would say is that this particular cottage is not the choice for anyone with mobility issues due to a steep step down from the lounge to bathroom and front door.

We stayed overnight in the Salamanca suite on Valentine's Day and had the North Wing of Combermere Abbey to ourselves. The accommodation was superb and definitely had the wow factor - just like being in your own stately home. The first floor suite itself was huge, with beautiful views over the adjacent lake and grounds. And, in addition, there was further accommodation to use on the ground floor. We were provided with countless thoughtful touches in keeping with the occasion, even extending to special Valentine's Day plates for the excellent breakfast. We had our own butler who could not have more friendly and helpful. Go there!!
