We returned to Heckfield our second time since our first visit in February.

Post-lockdown, the team have done everything to keep guests and staff safe, while still being a luxury experience. Rooms are sealed and sanitised with gaps in between each stay, there's a clear one way system, and masks are warn in public areas at all times by everyone.

Even with all these precautions, the experience was luxurious, chic, and flawless. We stayed three nights, and enjoyed dinner at both Marle and Hearth, as well as cocktails and coffees and lunches. There's so much to do on the property itself (we played badminton!) that you don't really need to make any other plans.

We're booking our next stay for November!

My family loves this country haven and we come as often as we can. The gardens and grounds are beautifully looked after. First class all round with very good service, comfort, luxury and attention to detail all the way. The staff are very courteous and also well trained and managed so that they care about customers and the presentation of the rooms. Every room is spacious and well appointed and they take cleanliness and COVID safety seriously. My family had a delicious lunch, with a seasonal and local menu. Lots of the fruit, flowers and vegetables are grown in their own gardens and there are also farm animals. The waitress could not enthuse enough about Heckfield Farm. The toiletries are very high end too and you can buy gift hampers online. We look forward to our return next year.

We only spent one night there following the Covid lockdown.. The staff took the guidelines on distancing and sanitisation very seriosly ,without spoiling ones enjoyment of the place. A magnificently furnished and comfortable hotel, fantastic food and very helpful and attentive staff. Will certainly return.

Heckfield Place has the ability to enable pampered guests to choose whether to work, rest or play! The estate is very well tendered by a team that clearly cares about where they work. We found every one there cheerful and welcoming, and could not do enough to make sure our every whim was catered for. A huge spoiling, and I just wish we had stayed for longer.

From arrival to departure the level of friendly service is impeccable. The building itself is clearly a labour of love and the public spaces are both impressive and homely.
Our room was in the new wing and was one of the least expensive, however it still felt luxurious (no.26)
Delicious bedding, a small patio, soft lighting and some above average complimentary drinks and biscuits.
Tea and cake at 4pm is a good opportunity to meet the staff and fellow guests or just relax in a cosy corner. Dinner in Marle was excellent, as was breakfast the following morning.
Two small issues, the hotel suggests a 10% service charge on the room rate to go to the behind the scenes staff, cleaning, maintenance etc. I feel this is already reflected in the room rate and so declined the charge. Finally do not get your car washed in advance of your trip as the extensive gravel driveways will leave your vehicle covered in white dust !

Dear Woody422, Thank you for your review. We’re so pleased that you enjoyed your time with us. To hear you felt our home is a labour of love is a delight and couldn’t be more true. We’re so glad that you were able to enjoy it, along with our beautiful grounds and the fruits of our talented culinary team. Indeed, we do add a discretionary service charge which goes straight to our hardworking team – but as you mentioned, it is completely at the discretion of our guests and can be removed without question. Additionally, you are quite right that our drive can be on the dusty side at times. Our grounds are what we call ‘gently tamed’, and the gravel helps to maintain a safe speed for cars entering and leaving. We sincerely hope this hasn’t proven to be too much of an inconvenience, and that we can welcome you again soon.

We had a wonderful weekend at Heckfield Place. We loved every detail. The building, a restored Georgian family home, is beautiful, classic and understated. The bedroom was calming and comfortable and there are several rooms to sit in and read books, watch a fire, play board games or enjoy tea and cake which appears every day at 4pm. The grounds are gorgeous and the food is amazing. We ate at both restaurants and in the bar area and everything was delicious. We learned that the chef is also responsible for the cakes, cookies and in room snacks. Everything we ate was sourced from the estate. We are going to plan day trips from London just to eat there. The hotel has the prettiest and most comfortable cinema I’ve ever seen with an unparalleled sound system for rainy days. The staff were wonderful and we felt welcomed and taken care of from the moment we arrived. We can’t wait to go back.

Multiple visits this year, first in winter
Checked in early on Thursday, out Saturday afternoon
Beautiful, comfortable rooms with great attention to detail in layout, whole property kept meticulously by very efficient and meticulous housekeeping
Grounds are beautiful and effortlessly natural. Of course walled garden was more breathtaking in summer
Love the energy and experience of the service team, quite a few young staff alongside more seasoned team members who remembered me from previous visits
Great meals and happy to see hearth open again. Cake at teatime always well received
Also used the gym this time, very well kept space
Will definitely make this place a habit!

We stayed here for our wedding anniversary.

All staff were super friendly on arrival and a lovely lad took us to our room and he was very helpful - sorry his name escapes me!!

My husband had requested a room with a bath as I'm pregnant and on arrival we found our room also kindly had a pregnancy pillow provided.

Room clean and beautifully decorated. Only thing missing was a full length mirror.

Food was excellent both dinner and breakfast.

Cello player during afternoon cake and tea was great.

Would return.

We are local, and bizzarely only found out about Heckfield a few months ago. We were given a voucher as a present for afternoon tea, but as we have a 4 year old at nursery we chose to use it for lunch.
It is set in beautiful surroundings (although we we'ren't allowed to walk around the grounds due to the current situation). We had lunch on the terrace in the Marle restaurant, with lovely views which made up for not being able to expore on foot.
The food was quite simply amazing. Beautifully presented, superb flavours, showing the obvious passion of the chefs.
We had 2 starters, giant prawns and scallops, both bursting with flavour and incredibly well cooked.
For mains, my wife had the Lamb cutlets and I had the Seabass, again, both perfectly cooked and presented with amazing flavours.
As for the side dish of black garlic roast potatoes...wow! Stunning.
It is not cheap, however I think the prices very much reflect the quality of the cooking and the overall experience. (Starters £12-20, Mains £20-30).
Staff were very attentive (and not over-attentive), very knowledgable about the food & wine and incredibly freindly.
All in all an absolute delight, and we will be returning regularly.

Having the benefit like many of you of enjoying lots of the well established hotels and restaurants in the land ( as in my history recorded here ) can advise my family and I lived near Heckfield before moving away, so Heckfield Place was very well known to us and so wanted to check it out as the relative new establishment on the hotel scene, and has also benefitted from tons of PR for the restaurant .

The entrance drive was and is impressive , very smart and set the scene for what was to follow. Although the car park was some distance from the hotel so beware if visiting when wet although there is a drop off point at the front door.

On entering the hotel we were well received and promptly shown to our table and given the option of selecting a table inside or out and despite being full could choose where we sat, it was only 12.15pm.

I thought the Restaurant was very understated although many now seem to have dropped the white table cloth on the table to be I guess less formal ? it certainly wasn’t what had expected, I do not enjoy or like cutlery on a bare table, is it cleans?

The service was spot on, politely informal , knowledgeable and warm, excellent .

My starter of leeks and asparagus was tough to cut, I blamed a blunt knife but later learnt by being told it wasn’t the knife but age of the food, I am not a chef and it was fine and I enjoyed the flavour .

The plaice was superbly cooked and was on the bone but was best described as succulent and very tasty, superb.
Desert might have been better described by me as a brûlée , very enjoyable but very rich.

We took coffee and tea on the terrace where again the service was atentative.

Note. Please note management - clear away dirty ash trays as on one table and dirty cups etc on another , the hotel terrace is not a pub garden…

Summary

Compared to many such places it is I felt overly expensive , example one mint tea and coffee @ £11 is not warranted.

The place is very smart, not posh or too formal so to speak but dressed with large garden pots and plants ‘everywhere’ I guess one might say nicely understated, and fashionable and well worth a visit.

Dear Roger K It gives me such pleasure to read about your experience in Marle recently. In particular, I am so pleased you found the service 'spot on' and attentive. With regard to the leeks and asparagus, this is served al dente as we believe this is the best way to enjoy this particular dish. We have never used tablecloths for Lunch and no longer use them for Dinner since the arrival of Covid. Please rest assured the tables are thoroughly cleaned after each guest. Thank you for your comments regarding the ash trays and cups. We have addressed this with the team, and I do hope we will be able to welcome you back before too long.
