The Tamil Quarter of Pondicherry is a place where cultures not only met, but melted. And gave birth to a way of life found nowhere else in the world. Maison Perumal is our tribute to that way of life. A sepia serigraph of another time - dusted off perhaps, but not retouched.
Star ratings are intended to indicate the general level of features, amenities, and services to expect. This property is classified according to Giata.
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.

Maison Perumal, CGH Earth, garners high praise for its spotless environment and use of eco-friendly materials. The hotel's quaint amenities and heritage charm, especially the central courtyard, are popular among guests, as are the quiet and comfortable rooms. While some minor noise and maintenance issues have been noted, the overall value, including reasonable pricing and complimentary offerings, is frequently appreciated.
The tranquil atmosphere, accentuated by traditional furnishings, enhances the serene experience. Although its location is convenient for shopping and transport, a few guests desire closer proximity to the beach. The attentive service, including excellent food and personalized care, consistently earns rave reviews.

Flight delays made for a late arrival. But great communication and they kept the restaurant open for us. After two flights and a long drive we were ready for bed but actually with lovely staff the meal and a glass of wine was just what we needed. Beautiful hotel we were upstairs in a lovely room. Heritage in style the furnishings are perfect. It has an atrium with an indoor garden on the ground floor. So the stars are visible from inside! The staff are very friendly and great at what they do. Loved that they wear traditional dress. Front desk helped us sort a local SIM card and we soon found our way about. The beach is a short walk away and the crowds on a Saturday evening are a sight to behold. There was a Sunday market nearby with lots of stalls but still open to the mad traffic so we didn’t linger. A tuk tuk took us to the local sights but my imagined perception of Pondicherry sadly didn’t come to fruition. We ate dinner in the hotel restaurant it was so good. One evening chef gave us a cooking class which was fun. Our 3 nights went in a flash and our thanks to all the staff for giving us a wonderful introduction to south India.

Maison Perumal is a lovely building, an old Chettinad house beautifully conserved and renovated to house the hotel. Situated in a busy part of Pondicherry, our van (Tempo Traveller coming from Chennai) containing 7 people struggled a bit in the busy little lanes leading to this but the hotel has a parking lot a little away, with driver washroom facilities (there was also a nearby hotel where we made arrangements for our driver, which the hotel concierge recommended). The approach may be a little tight but the property is lovely, and the architecture worth exploring. As always for my reviews, the people are the ones to make a difference. Jason and his team were wonderful, at the front office, helping with the bags, catering to various picky dietary needs in the restaurant, and reminding us to leave on time for our appointment at Auroville. The rooms were airy and well-equipped with coffee/tea makers, neat bathrooms, smelling of lemongrass and stocked with some wonderful toiletries (the moisturizer was amazing- the brand was Earth something, sorry to be so vague!). The beds were great, although a bit high for my elderly uncle who were also on the trip. However the staff immediately remedied that with a step stool and the option of a low single bed they brought in. Breakfast starts at 7am with a western breakfast (eggs, cereal, toast, croissant) and the hot South Indian selections start at 730am. Absolutely no complaints with leaving the hotel with a well-fed tummy! Meals at the hotel were good, although the choices are a bit limited for a vegetarian like myself. The Varadaraja Perumal is around the corner and was an unexpected highlight of our trip.

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
This boutique hotel is based off the main roads (thankfully), and is a sympathetically restored period building. It's within the Tamil quarter as opposed to the French section, but it's within easy walking reach.
It's a very tranquil, old-World space, with the restaurant area as part of the courtyard. The food is fabulous, and our room on the 2nd floor (facing the courtyard) was simplistic and sympathetically furbished. Wifi is available in the room.
We spent a lot of time walking around Pondicherry - it's a lovely seaside town with strong French influence - so didn't spend that much time in the hotel (apart from breakfast and dinner), but it was a wonderful place to come back to after a busy day exploring.
The staff are attentive and helpful, which helps to make the visit special. Highly recommended!

We booked one night at Maison Perumal at the end of our two weeks itinerary tour in South India. Maison Perumal located close to the French quarter is a Chettiar renovated mansion. They are offering complimentary activities and able to quickly organize tours and other activities at reasonable extra cost which is great. They organize us a half day walking tour on a short notice which was nice.
We wanted a quiet room preferably last floor (Maison Perumal has a lift). Our wishes were fulfilled . Our room was simple yet well equipped . The small bathroom needs renovation. Water pressure was weak. Toilets were inside the bathroom. The view was uninspiring, over the first courtyard and other buildings roofs, however not street side so less noisy. The room had air conditioning but it can still be warm during monsoon season as it is quite humid. Hopefully there is a ceiling fan. Also this mansion has lots of potential and could go for an updated decoration with more modern touches.
We tested the small empty bar but liked it as it was fresh (with AC) and cozy. They offer a good choice of drinks including cocktails, spirits and wines at reasonable prices. The restaurant is quite hot even in the evening as located in the courtyard. The food choice is good. Service is efficient.

Maison Perumal was a highlight of my Iast India visit. This property was a true delight is many ways. The property is a quaint 130 year house with 10 rooms. My room was quiet, spacious, super cozy. and immaculate with good taste and always fresh cookies for me. I was there for 5 nights fortunately to give me the true feeling of a heritage home in this neighborhood. The restaurant served a beautiful breakfast of everything fresh, and the lunches and dinners were all fresh and excellent, I choose to eat here for most of my meals. The staff would do anything for you. The service here is the BEST. EJ the manager is a jewel, he is always working to make sure the guests are taken care of and he is ALWAYS SMILING. What a delightful person to be in charge. The other staff were the kindest people you ever want to meet. Everyone smiles. I can't remember everyone's name but Suresh served me breakfast daily and was so kind and Jason helped me get a massage at a near by place, and walked with me to help me arrange it. Bavari at the front desk was super helpful and kind. Everyone goes out of their way for you. This property is curated under the CGH management of heritage properties. Now I want to see all the properties and have lifetime experiences that this property brought me. Thank you to everyone there and to the reservation manager Antony, who totally took care of my booking.

Pondicherry is home and having lived a great part of our lives here it was a strange experience having to look at a hotel to stay in. We could not however have been luckier as it really felt like home due to the efforts of the staff. We were not here as tourists but having lived in Pondicherry for a long time, I can vouch for the fact that it is in a fantastic location for someone wanting to explore Pondicherry. The hotel prides itself on its philosophy that it is the destination that is important and they concentrate on providing a wonderful stay. It is a converted house (incidentally where some friends spent their childhood) built in traditional style around two central courtyards and has been restored with care. The addition of second storey does appear to however impact on ventilation in the rear courtyard which serves as a restaurant. The rooms are very comfortable and well laid out with modern amenities in a way that does not distract from the traditional structure. The staff deserve special mention. Jason at the front desk who received us was very helpful throughout the stay- it was nice to see how proud he was of the hotel. The manager Sam always stopped by for a chat and is really passionate about the hotel. Malaiswamy who helps in the restaurant needs a special mention- he is an absolute gem of a person in addition to being good at his job and the hotel are really lucky to have him. We made friends with everyone at the hotel and felt that they adopted us into what felt like a family. The valet service driver, the watchman and the others whose names I missed and was too embarrassed to ask again were really nice. Anjulakshmy, who helped with the laundry was in tears when we told her that we had come to the end of our stay. The visit to Pondicherry was for personal reasons and had the potential to be stressful but Maison Perumal wert a long way in making it quite pleasant.

La Maison Perumal is a beautiful heritage hotel within walking distance of bars, restaurants and shopping. The rooms, secluded, quiet, comfortable and with antique furnishings, are arranged around two colonnaded patios. The restaurant offers good Indian cuisine in an elegant and relaxing setting. Also good breakfast. The staff was friendly and helpful. I really appreciated the absence of plastic.

I have to review Maison Perumal for the wonderful experience we had, we stayed 6 nights. It is a haven in the old Tamil quarter, but easily to walk to the beachfront and White town. Food is lovingly prepared. Great Bfast, juices, eggs, dosas, idlis, pastries and fruit, and great coffee. The building is 150yrs old and has been beautifully restored, plants surround you, everything is made with wood and local materials, and my first time staying in a hotel where there is no plastic. The bed and room was beautiful, everything so clean. The staff are so friendly and professional we did not want for anything. Thank you Barti, Jayson,Elby, Sami Sunil and all the staff.

This is my second time staying here. This time we (my husband, our adult daughter and I) stayed for one night during Diwali. We were not keen on noise and pollution and were actually worried that the sound will penetrate into the hotel. But the sound proofing was excellent, and the room was quiet and lovely. We had a large corner room which easily accommodated an extra bed. The furnishings were comfortable with adequate chairs and tables. The bathroom was spotless with eco-friendly arrangement for toiletries. The beds were wide with a firm and supporting mattress. The extra bed was spring and narrow as it is in most places. There were complimentary snacks (for the festival) water (in glass bottles) and fruits, tea and coffee. It is located on a street in the centre of town within easy walking distance from places of interest. There is a valet who takes care of the on-street parking elsewhere. The welcome was warm. The common areas brought back memories of my childhood with a open courtyard, swings and a verandah with cement benches. There were pleasing traditional flower arrangements. The breakfast in complimentary and had adequate variety and taste. It was a mix of continental and south Indian dishes. We did not have any other meals. The wifi was excellent. But it did not work well in the common areas and it was device specific (and limited to 2 devices per person). The staff were courteous but I suspect they were understaffed. The request for extra blanket took a very long time to respond and needed a few reminders. Over all I would highly recommend this boutique property which ticks all the boxes.

The hotel is a certified heritage property with attention to every detail. To convert such a house into a 10 rooms hotel is not an easy task. Here are the highlights: - Lush green, artistically done hotel with comfortable rooms with all amenities - Rooms equipped with coffee machine, tea makers, variety of tea leaves, milk, etc - Clean hotel that is very well maintained - Excellent service and staff is polite - always ready to help and serve the best - Manager Elby is always leading from the front and his team is efficient - Food is also a highlight as breakfast with hot, fresh bakery items, eggs to order etc - The restaurant is quite popular and worth trying for meal or South Indian dishes
Cycles really helped us move around Pondicherry and explore comfortably. They have valet parking for car. You can use the pool at Palais de Mahe which is a convenient arrangement.
Overall, worth a stay and multiple visits !!

Not appropriate for me to answer for the establishment, BUT, very laid back but efficient management. Why not try again or send email.
