We stayed for a night when visiting Jihlava in November. The hotel was easy to find, conveniently located close to the city center. Check in was smooth, easy included parking. The room we got was of a good size, all was clean, bed comfortable. Breakfast was nice too. All in all we had a good stay and would choose this hotel when visiting Jihlava next time. Thank you.

I will start with what actually dragged my rating down a bit: Lack of hot water. Oh yikes, it was really cold to take a morning shower I must say. Otherwise, the staff were helpful and friendly, the room was clean and with a quite high standard, with only minor indications of wear and tear. Regarding the lack of hot water, this seems to be the case on at least the third floor. A colleague of mine did not have the same issue on the first floor. What was good: - The atmosphere in the old buildings - Staffs helpfulness - Cleanliness - Location What was average: - Way to hard beds - Breakfast (good for being on a three star tough) What was bad: - Lack of hot water If I visit the area again, I would consider to but ok Gustav Mahler again, but request a room on the first floor.

I believe it is a converted monastery, or something similar, the comfort of the rooms has not improved much, basic but clean and comfortable. The restaurant was ok for dinner, a decent meal and very good value. I arrived at 12.30pm on a Saturday and the town was shut, properly shut, so I have no opinion on it.

After hiking Tatra mountains, even a warm shower would’ve been OK but the water was simply COLD. We told the staff about this in the evening but the situation had not improved by the morning. Other than that the toilet kept getting stuck, the room was HOT and the hotel restaurant was closed. Our worst stay on a month-long roadtrip in E-Europe.

We drove from Germany to Croatia and chose to stay in Jihlava for the night. Were intrigued with idea of an old monastery and Jihlava looked nice. We arrived in the late afternoon and headed for our SUPER clean room. Took a shower and headed for a hotels restaurant - VERY, VERY good food. I ate fish, my wife pork steak and a daughter soup. We had ice cream and cake strudel for dessert. Nice beer and the evening was a big hit! Had a wonderful sleep on high quality madrases. After very big breakfast buffet with a lot of variety we headed for the town and explored it for a couple of hours. Very charming place with a lot of history located really near Prague-Brno highway. We recommend the hotel as well as Jihlava.

When visiting Jihlava with my wife for master swimming competition, we stay at hotel G Mahler. Conveniently located close to main square, the hotel offer clean and nice room with really large bathroom in remodeled historical building of old monastery. In the morning after good and tasty breakfast, we were allowed to make a tour thru halls and see refectory. Friendly receptionist, moderate price of accommodation, breakfast included, free parking on property.

It’s not often that one has an opportunity to sleep in an old monastery. The Gustaf Mahler hotel is located in a refurbished Dominican monastery. Our room was large and the beds comfortable. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Secure (and free) parking was behind the hotel. One, almost unavoidable problem is the virtual absence of a wifi signal in the rooms, at least our room. But this is not surprising because the interior walls are very thick (remember, this is an old monastery!). But the signal was acceptably strong in the lobby and registration areas. Breakfast was excellent and included in the price of the hotel. We had a very pleasant stay and left with many equally pleasant memories. For those interested, the Gustaf Mahler house is about 450 metres from the hotel.

On the pictures, the Gustav Mahler's hotel seems a superb monument. The disappointment begins when one discovers the room: mine was tiny, with little beds seized only for children but unfortunately I'm no more a child. Many of the rooms are situated on the road with beautiful cobblestones but that make a lot of noise when a bus or truck passes by. So, when after an awful sleepless night at last it's 6:30 am and you think you can go and have a coffee, suddenly you discover the breakfast room, despite all the official informations on the flyers and on the door itself, opens only at 7am... Some other bad points: sometimes there is no hot water; on TV, only Czech and German channels; a friend was blocked on the elevator just before leaving for the airport... Some positive points: central situation; good coffee. Maybe there are better rooms on the other side of the hotel, let's hope so. Anyway, I would recommend to avoid the rooms on the street.

Because my husband and I were undertaking the "Search for Gustav Mahler," there was no option in where we had to stay - Hotel Gustav Mahler in Jihlava, Mahler's boyhood home. It was just perfect. Housed in a former Dominican Convent, the hotel reeked charm. We loved the echoing sounds down the long, Gothic-domed corridors and view into the lovely Cloister. The hotel, just off the main square, is easy to find, and free parking is right on the premises. Our room (#112) was large enough to accommodate two comfortable chairs and a table, along with most appreciated two bedside tables with out queen sized bed. The newly furnished bathroom was enormous, and the hot, powerful shower worth lingering in. The staff was uniformly gracious and helpful in pointing us to various locations in the region. The real surprise was the kitchen. We rarely eat in hotel restaurants and virtually never more than once in the same place when we travel. The food was so good (and extremely reasonable) that we ate there twice. A third night, wanting to try some place different, the receptionist recommended Tri Knizata on the main square. It was an attractive place, and the food was good, but it could not compare to Gustav Mahler's food at half the price. Breakfasts were substantial buffets that included some local dishes as well as the usual fare. The receptionist also recommended a woman who gave me a very relaxing massage at standard Central European prices. Amazing! It was an added bonus that the Mahler Festival had begun and we could attend at concert at the church attached to the hotel - Mahler Symphony #1. Jihlava makes an attractive base from which to explore the Czech Republic's Northern Highlands (Vysočina). The city is large enough to be interesting in itself, and the road connections are excellent - creating a spoke and wheel configuration for the region. The drive in from Prague is very easy, and we stopped at Kaliste (Mahler's birthplace) on the way. Other excursions included Lipnice and Havličkův Brod for some Jaroslav Hašek and Josef Lada connections (The Good Soldier Svejk), and the charming Renaissance/Baroque Telč. Had we had more time, we could easily have based in Jihlava for longer and visited the many other sites in the region. But, there is really only one place to stay and eat (whether tracking Mahler or not) - the Gustav Mahler Hotel.
