We arrived in Castlenaudry at about 7pm on a Thursday in October and had hoped to find a Chambre d'hote, but had really arrived too late, so we found this hotel after going to one which was full. We were just pleased to be able to get a bed for the night. The lady on reception was very helpful. The room was clean and comfortable, but very dated and tired and we could not get the shower over the bath to run very hot. However it was quiet and the bed was comfortable so we got a good nights sleep. For an extra 5 euros we were also able to park the car in the hotel garage which was good. Breakfast was a bit lacklustre, but it was good to be able to have a cup of tea. There was a bit of French bread (not the best and we normally adore French bread), some mini croissants, a bit of yoghurt and cake. It was enough though, plus the overall cost of the stay was not too high, although we stayed in some lovely other places which cost less. As I say though it was clean and we needed a bed at short notice so really no reason to complain. It did what we needed.

We stayed at the Hotel de France as the Ibis budget was fully booked. Very easy to find, with secure parking attached. The room, as the rest of the hotel, looked a little tired but was clean and functional. The shower is 'over bath' and lacks a shower curtain or the chance to change its height resulting in water everywhere and an achy neck! No hair dryer but its the summer so thats okay. The food in the restaurant was lovely. Really very good for 24 euros each. Breakfast was however a disappointment. only seven euros but very limited choice and only a grumpy lady there to help! She did later give us our parking free and let us leave the car in the secure parking after our official check out. We would stay again knowing these faults. Could also do with aircon in the rooms maybe.

I think this hotel had seen better days ,but very good value for money and good for a quick pit-stop on your way to your destination. The room was quite small but adequate ,bathroom clean but just a spray shower attached to the bath -tap. The wifi was a joke ,very complicated to use unfortunately and the breakfast was so-so,not very interesting.,it does have a private parking facility right next to the hotel ,so good if you have a car load of stuff you don't want to be seen.Friendly enough staff.

In fairness I think this is the only hotel in town.
Only a very short walk to the centre.
It looks tired because it is.
So outdated this is no more than a 2 star logis style. Frankly my room was so depressing. Dated, dim and dingy. Old bathroom, hot water in shower takes ages and then goes cold and hot again!
It is cheap though!

Stayed for one night in a dated bedroom with a bathroom and toilet installed pre Second World War. No hair dryer, the bath(there was no shower curtain) was worn and marked and the plug when fitted let almost as much water out as flowed in. Lots of hot water though and soft toilet tissue. Very small tv and wifi seemed very complicated to access.
The breakfast was good, the cafe and restaurant seemed very nice but is closed on a Sunday evening and so cannot comment on it.
The room was only 52 euros but needs complete makeover.

Disappointed at having driven some way from Peret to Castelnaudary for lunch at Le Tirou only to find it closed, we decided to make the best of it.
A walk around a lovely town, a few drinks to gather our thoughts in the town square then down to the task of finding some lovely food.
Hotel de France was nondescript from the outside but a number of locals had recommended it to us over said drinks.
We were not at all disappointed.

My wife and I stopped in Castelnaudary on our way to Carcassonne from Sarlat. We wanted to see the LeBoat dockage as we had boated down the Garonne canal in September and are considering doing the Midi next year. We did not stay at the hotel and only ate lunch there. From the appearances, the hotel could use a little lipstick and rouge. I chose to have steak and my wife had a salmon crape and spinach timbal. Both dishes were serve with an egg/squash dish that was quite tasty. My steak must have been cut from between the horns as it was tough as tough can be, but still had a nice flavor. My wife salmon was good and the vegetable dish was also good. Larry & Kelly, Georgetown, Texas

We gave up on the one-way system and road works in Carcassonne and as time was pressing-on headed on up to Castelnaudary. The Hoteldu Canal was "complet", but they kindly telephoned and booked us in here.
It's a small commercial hotel, a little worn (as many are) but spotlessly clean, with secure car parking on-site, a pleasant little bar, and a no-nonsense restaurant. We dined there and tumbled into a lovely large bed.
Rooms are well-proportioned, bathrooms with separate loo, plenty of storage.
Dinner was excellent, local sausages on Puy lentils, fresh trout perfectly cooked, crema catalana and cheese to die for.
Total bill including drinks and wine 103 euros for two. Would recommend for anyone who likes "real" France, where there's real pride in local cuisine and guests comfort.

We ended up staying at the Hotel de France by accident. We had left it late in the day to find a hotel for the night and really, it was here or nothing! We had minimal expectations, especially after reading the previous reviews, but it wasn't so bad. Yes, the decor is tired, and the furnishings well worn, but our room was spotlessly clean and the bed was the most comfortable one I slept in during this particular holiday. We ate in the hotel restaurant, avoiding the recommended cassoulet, instead enjoying the €13.90 menu. My salade du chèvre was excellent, and I followed it with fish baked en papillote, and served with a carrot purée and roasted tomato. The desserts weren't very exciting, but were ok for the price. The wines were reasonably priced too. All in, we spent €100 for our double room, with bath and separate toilet, dinner for two with wine, and secure garage parking. So don't be too hard on this hotel.

I can only say that the experience here was expensive and appalling

I would not recommend this to anybody and would suggest that this establishment be taken out of the tour guide.

Run down, shabby, poor service, unhelpful staff and at a price!

Of all the wonderful places we have eaten in France, and the wonderful hospitality of the French people, this was a disgrace.
