Nestled in a secluded jungle setting, Dreams Las Mareas Costa Rica offers a picturesque getaway that earns high marks for its cleanliness and well-maintained facilities. While the resort's amenities, including multiple pools and dining options, receive praise, some guests suggest the Preferred Club might not be worth the upgrade. Visitors enjoy the room views and amenities, though noise and cleanliness issues are noted. The remote location is both a draw and a drawback, with some finding it inconvenient for travel.
Guest experiences with service and meal times vary, with reports of both friendly staff and communication challenges. The lively atmosphere, complete with music and events, is appreciated by many but can impinge on those seeking tranquility. Additionally, questions regarding the overall value and cost of services persist among reviewers.

Our family of 4 (2 boys aged 12 and 15) had a fantastic time at Dreams Las Mareas. We are Canadians looking to escape the cold, and we found paradise in Costa Rica.
The hotel is absolutely stunning, with beautiful vegetation and grounds, multiple pools with ample umbrellas and chairs, and a lovely, calm beach.
Our room, although starting to show some wear and tear, was well appointed and very clean. Housekeeping did a great job keeping the room up during our stay, with towels and mini bar replenished daily before noon. The pools area is immaculate - the deck staff are busy constantly cleaning vegetation from the deck, cleaning the pool, tidying towels and moving lounge chairs. I must commend Kendall on his fantastic work ethic ... this young man really takes pride in maintaining the pool areas in which he is assigned. He is constantly busy, and works in "fast-motion". Beach is tidy, no garbage/debris to be found anywhere.
Food was very good at all restaurants. We enjoyed all the a la carte restaurants we went to (Mexican, Italian, Hibachi and both seafood/surf&turf restaurants). The buffet was excellent for breakfast with many options. Fantastic and friendly service at both the buffet and a la carte restaurants. Zero language barriers for our non-spanish speaking family - all our questions about the menu were answered, and staff were sure to ask about any allergies or restrictions.
The selection of beverages, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, was fantastic. And drinks were prepared fairly consistently at all bars. All with a smile. The bar staff - bartenders and pool waiters/waitresses were friendly and courteous. Service was prompt and attentive. The lobby bar can be busy at times, but again, the employees are attentive and jovial, and most patrons use the "line up" to the bar, as opposed to barging in, which makes service fair to all patrons.
Entertainment staff are fantastic! Lots of fun had playing (and even just watching) volleyball and crazy pool games. The evening entertainment was fun - we really enjoyed bingo. And the evening shows are really impressive - the dancers are great, and they had some really cool feature shows like a fire show. This whole crew works really hard to engage all hotel guests!
The beach is lovely for families, situated in a calm bay. The sand is nice and soft, and the water gradual. Yes, there are vendors - we did not book any excursions, but a polite no thank you, and they are on their way. We certainly did not feel harassed by them.
Overall, we had an amazing trip and would definitely return to Dreams Las Mareas. We would highly recommend this resort to our friends. We really enjoyed our 6 nights here and wished that we could have stayed longer.

My husband and I came here on our honeymoon for a few weeks at the beginning of January 2025. We had the honeymoon of our dreams thanks to the Dreams Las Mareas resort! We loved the little extra touches to our room (honeymoon banner on the door, the "I Love You" letters written in coffee beans on our bed, & the complimentary fruit + wine), the view of the ocean from our balcony up high, and the tub on our balcony to watch sunrises and sunsets. The resort's remote location (2 hours from the nearest airport) might not be for some but we wanted a more private retreat and Dreams delivered. The resort itself is small but cozy which made it a perfect luxurious yet peaceful getaway for us. The resort is clean/well-maintained, there are plenty of pools/loungers to choose from (everything feels secluded enough already so getting the preferred membership didn't make sense to us), and the food at the main buffet is delicious and fresh for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We also loved the variety of restaurants available on-site: Mexican, Italian, French, Asian, Japanese, Seafood Grill, and Steakhouse (I've only ever had 2-3 options at other resorts). We also loved the variety of pool bars and bistros throughout the resort to get drinks and food from during the day while lounging at the pool or beach. The entertainment each night is top notch with the largest selection of performances that I've ever seen at a resort. The staff are all very friendly, kind, helpful, and seem to enjoy their job very much, all of which contributes to a wonderful atmosphere (huge shoutout to Danna Corea at the gift shop for being such a welcoming person to us on our first day by talking to use about Costa Rica, helping us throughout the trip as we shopped, and wishing us a sweet farewell on our last day). There were many weddings on-site during our stay on the weekends but we didn't mind at all since we were celebrating our own wedding as we were "just married" so this only added to our celebration. The beach to me personally was the best part of the hotel as I love wild & secluded nature and Playa El Jobo delivered on both of these. There are also exotic animals all over the resort that live in harmony amongst the staff and guests, which we loved (we saw monkeys, parrots, iguanas, and more daily). Overall, the Dreams Hotel has a very unique and comfortable layout and is located in the mountains/hills near La Cruz in a small gorgeous bay in the Northern Guanacaste Province so for us as newlyweds, this made our honeymoon that much more enjoyable and special! We would recommend this hotel to anyone and we look forward to coming back to celebrate anniversaries in the future!! Thank you so much for a memorable experience that we will never forget!!!

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
Our experience at the Dreams Las Mareas, an all-inclusive on the Pacific coast in the northwest of Costa Rica, was probably the best of any of the Caribbean hotels in the chain--Dream, Secrets, etc.--we have stayed at in the past with the family during winter break. The hotel is a cut above the others we have visited in Punta Cana or Mexico with respect to rooms, design, amenities, quality of restaurants and general atmosphere.
There are about 360 rooms but we never felt crowded. There were always lounge chairs and the beach is a stunning natural cove that surprisingly was under used, probably because the abundant and well-designed swimming pools, with numerous drink and food kiosks, kept most guests there.
Staff was super helpful and pleasant. Because we were a group of ten, sometimes dinner seating was difficult and the staff at any restaurant would use their communications system to find a restaurant to seat us. With six grandchildren, the World Cafe buffet was naturally a hit. Surprisingly, the food was the best buffet food we have encountered and the manager, Donald, was very accommodating in finding seating for us.
The excellent accommodations come with a price--the hotel was more expensive than other same name all-inclusives in, for example, Punta Cana. The hotel, near the border with Nicaragua, is about a 90 minute ride from the Liberia airport. Because of its location, it may require an hour and half to two hours to travel to the Combo or nature walk tour starting points. And you can expect to pay anywhere from $150 to $200 per person.
The hotel does weddings and can do two simultaneously. Because of the U-shaped design of the hotel, no building is exempt from the noise. Fortunately, and to the credit of the management, noise stopped promptly at ten. We had weddings on only one night, a couple of corporate dinner receptions on others that were quiet.
Transfer companies often prefer cash or may add a 13% surcharge for cards. The Amstar tour managers on site will take cards without the surcharge. Some of the outside tour operators may also ask for cash but also may be a bit more flexible in, for example, the ages they allow on the ATVs (expect $100/ATV for a 2.5 hour tour).
The chance to see another country was a plus. The hotel itself was a surprise after a 90 minute ride through the back country which does not prepare you for what you will encounter. Adults and children both thought it was one of our best vacations.

Every single detail about this resort was on point. I stayed in a swim out room in the Preferred building. They have a separate check in space with food and a bar from 7 AM to 10 pm. Room service is super quick. They have recyclable glass bottles of water in the room (no plastic trash). There was a toothbrush, toothpaste, a razor and shaving cream included. Because I had a swim out room, I also was given sunscreen in the room and incense, bottle of premium whiskey. My pool was cleaned every single day. Each and every restaurant was amazing. The food choices and the service were all impeccable. Wide selection of spirits at each bar. Staff was so helpful and pleasant. Everything was clean. Not a SINGLE toilet issue the entire week. Conference facilities were great. Architecture, furnishings, decorations and landscaping were stunning. Suggestions for dishes aside from what I was considering were always fantastic. The room had a doorbell, which was so pleasant. The water pressure in the shower was strong. There was always a cart available to drive you somewhere that felt long to walk. There were weddings while I was there and the different set ups were beautiful. The regular pools stay open until 9 if you don't have a swim out room. They will bring drinks to you from the restaurant. Can't say enough good things about this place. I was worried from reading the previous reviews, but they have worked out ALL the kinks

This is a very nice resort! We stayed in a premium ocean view room- building 3. Very clean! Resort is almost 2 hrs away from liberia airport & most roads are rough getting here. I prefer adults only resort but most rooms I wanted were booked for my dates. (this is my first time in Costa Rica so I wanted to do a big resort all inclusive) The staff are friendly & helpful but language barrier is sometimes a problem. I will say they are not quite as accommodating & go overboard like secret resorts or sandles resorts. The food is really good here. Did breakfast buffet in morning - my husband loves the fresh omelettes. We did do the preferred package & allowed us in the premium lobby w/ light snacks, lunch, & good wine, liquor which we used everyday & for happy hour. We tried all restaurants in evening. I like that they have a dress code- pretty casual but still nice that they don’t allow sloppy dress at dinner. The beach is small but beautiful! There are tons of pools but staff doesn’t do a good job of monitoring the people that just throw their towels on the chairs and take off for the day. Our first day we had trouble finding chairs & towels. Excursion desk was great too!

I was very disappointed in this resort, as I have stayed in resorts in Jamaica and Mexico. You need to have a comfortable bed and great food, which this resort was inconsistent with. My bed was horrible. It was hard and the comforter was rough. The outdoor patio furniture was dirty and it didn't look like anyone washes it. My son's room had mildew/mold in his bathroom, which we reported and no one did anything about it. He constantly had bugs in his room including on his bed and again no one responded. The hotel needs updates from the roof to the details of the building. The public restrooms were not cleaned and there were leaks from the ceiling. There was poor communication within your organization with no telling the guests that a restaurant randomly closes per week, which your staff said they do not know until the night of, which doesn't help the customer. The food was NOT consistent, the buffet had cold food and your staff allowed for flies to land on the food, which is unsanitary and repulsive to watch. It appears that your organization just places staff anywhere that is needed from wait staff to pool service. Wait staff has a specific skill which specializes on the customer's need from being proactive and engaging with the customer, which few of your wait staff had. There was one AMAZING waitress at the buffet Evelyn who was your best asset and was extremely attentive! She needs to teach EVERYONE. Some of your staff would say hi, others acted annoyed to be working. The cocktails were watered down. I was very disappointed in this resort. As soon as I entered the place I was given a sales pitch to attend an information session the next day after I traveled for several hours on unpaved roads riddled with potholes. Customers do not want to be poached, we want to relax and be upsaled for more to pay after we paid for the resort. The laundry service was outrageously priced and should be included with the resort as many others offer it. If you don't want to offer it, then have a laundromat for us to use.
The best part of the resort was the pools! the Music/musicians that you had! The saxophone player was fantastic! and the singer you had Jose was great. Your dancers needed to have current choreography and were not synced. It was like I was watching an elementary school dance rehearsal. It would help if you had more activities for young teenagers. Great DJ at night and a good music selection, which catered to various age groups and genres of music

Hello, Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback about your recent stay. We are sincerely sorry to hear that your experience at our resort did not meet your expectations, especially given your positive experiences at other resorts. We deeply regret the discomfort you faced with the bedding and the issues with cleanliness on the patio furniture and in your son's room. We will address these issues with our housekeeping and maintenance teams. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the inconsistent food quality and the communication lapses regarding restaurant closures. We strive to provide a consistent dining experience and will be reviewing our processes to ensure better communication and food handling practices to avoid such issues in the future. It's disappointing to hear that some of our staff did not meet the high standards of service we aim to provide. However, we are pleased to hear that Evelyn made a positive impression. We will be sure to recognize her for her exceptional service and will look into providing additional training for our staff to enhance their customer service skills. Your feedback about the entertainment, particularly the music and musicians, is greatly appreciated. We are glad you enjoyed these aspects of your stay. We will also take your suggestions about the dancers and activities for young teenagers into consideration as we continue to improve our offerings. Thank you again for your valuable feedback. We hope you might give us another chance in the future to provide you with a more positive experience. Sincerely, Dreams Las Mareas Team

We had a lovely room but were disappointed with the location. We booked a tropical view room I was expecting to have view of the lush trees but our room looked on to the gym, there was a small tree shielding the view so that people in the gym couldn't see us but we ended up never using the balcony. (Room 5627).
We seemed to have issues with the housekeeping services, some days no towels, the room wasn't cleaning and they didn't check we had bodywash and had to call them out on multiple occasions which was wasn't what we expected for what we had paid for this hotel.
The resort is very beautiful and clean and tidy. the staff were very friendly our only comment on that would be that we didn't appreciate the sales chat we we were checking in after a very long journey we just needed to use the toilet and get a drink not to be signed up for some meeting to be spoken to about timeshares.
The pools were nice and we had no problems getting a sunbed each morning but by about 9am most of them are gone or have towels on to reserve them.
We enjoyed most of the restaurants we tried and I personally enjoyed being able to have a omelette freshly cooked each morning at the buffet.
Some of the entertainment was good and some not so good. There seemed to be activities going on that you could take part in during the day and we took advantage of the guided walk with Antonio one morning which was really nice.
I made use of the gym each morning at 6am and found it to be very good with enough equipment to do a good workout.
On the whole we did enjoy our week at the hotel we just felt that there was some room for improvement for the price we paid.

The complex is beautifully located, very well maintained and beautiful. The staff are helpful and courteous. The complex has a lot to offer and excursions from the complex are easy to book. The food in the various restaurants was varied. It was just always very loud and, above all, very cold due to the air conditioning. The World Cafe offers a buffet. There was always a lot of variety, but the hot food was cold. The coffee in the morning was quick, but if you ordered tea etc. you sometimes had to wait half an hour or it didn't come at all, even after asking several times. The chairs could use a cleaning. The room cleaning was OK, but I think there is still room for improvement here too. No attention was paid to ensuring there was enough toilet paper and the towels were not regularly refilled. Some of the clean towels still had stains. If you were unlucky and were still in your room when the cleaners came and you said they should come back in 10 minutes, they didn't come back and you didn't get any cleaning for the whole day, if that happens 5 times in a 14-day holiday, you get angry. The loungers at the pool were reserved early in the morning with towels. For me, that's a total no-go. They should be a bit stricter here so that people who aren't out at 7:00 a.m. also have a chance of getting a lounger by the pool.
The New Year's Eve program was fantastic. An all-round successful celebration. Everything was perfect and gave you an unforgettable New Year.
All in all, a wonderful holiday, but unfortunately one or two things weren't right and could perhaps be improved.

We arrived at the hotel after a 11.5 hour flight. We had to sit in coach at entrance whilst they processed the coach in front .When we were allowed in we were not given a welcome drink . We checked in and was taken to our room by a friendly porter. The next day we explored hotel and grounds plus the beach and found it to be everything you would expect in costa rica. The restaurants are very nice but some are not what I would call 5 star. We went to the asian restaurant and the service and the food was good but you had to use the same cutlery that you used for your starter for your main course. That is not 5 star dining !!!! We went to the bistro four times as it was our favourite restaurant and the staff were excellent and I would recommend the crepe suzette as a pudding as the waitress does a lovely show with the gravy boats and quanttro. We visited the italian twice and both times it was very good. The steak and the fish restaurants were good and well worth a visit.Cannot comment on the sushi or japanese restaurants as we did not visit but people seemed to be having a good time. In the evening there is only one bar available unless you pay an exorbitant price to join the 'PREFERRED CLUB'. Unfortunately they ony serve drinks in plastic beakers. My wife asked for a prosceco and was served it in a plastic cup which she refused and after a discussion got a glass .Dreams advertise top shelf premium drinks as part of the 5 star experience but omitted to say you would have to drink it from a beaker. We had a conversation with our TUI agent and after that you got prosceco or wine in a glass but all other drinks were still in plastic beakers. Not 5 star again .There was only one person going around serving in the evenings so we had to stand in line to get a drink for 10 minutes some times. There was no where to go to have a quite drink as everyone had to use the bar .The disco room would be better used as a sports bar as disco was not that popular and the ballroom should be reconfigured as it is not used. Not 5 star. The same problem at the pools and the beach only one person going around offering drinks .Not 5 star. The positives are the location is excellent and the wildlife around hotel is great. There is a nature walk through the mangroves accessed from the beach, turnleft 200 yards just past lilo is a gate leading to walkway through mangroves .Humming birds and herons and all sorts plus a look out tower. This hotel caters to a lot of weddings so be prepared for a lot of large wedding parties and it is ony a couple hours flight from USA so lots of young people . Overall I would say it is a good location and the hotel grounds are excellent but it is not 5 star .The overall experience needs addressing. This is the fourth dreams I have visited and the setting is the best but unfortunately the experience at the hotel is the worst and it could be so much better. I expect to get the generic response from the hotel but this is my honest opinion We had room service one day and found it to be very good as we were on an early start.
