No words can express how wonderful Zawadi Hotel is! Booking this hotel was kind of an afterthough of our month long travels and it ended up being the most amazing part of our journey. From the moment we contacted Zawadi, their communication was seamless and impeccable. We were very apt to go scuba diving the morning we arrived in Zanzibar and they arranged with Rising Sun Dive Center everything! We didn't have to worry about a thing except to go diving! In order to make the dive, Zawadi had our taxi drop us off at the dive center and then Zawadi and the dive center took care of all of our luggage and personal belongings. When we were done with our 2 tank dive, Rising Sun dropped us off directly on the beach in front of Zawadi Hotel, and we were warmly greeted by Isaack with 2 fresh cocounts in hand and cold towels! This was the most special arrival ever! And all of our luggage were already neatly placed in our villa! The villas were incredibly spacious, clean, and effortlessly decorated so that the views of the Indian Ocean could take center stage. The food was incredibly fresh, flavorful and delicious! The chef catered to my gluten free sensitivity and I never had to worry about my meals having gluten in them. But by far, the people who helped us every day are the ones that made our stay truly memorable. Evelyne, Isaack, Iddy, Bernard, Raza, Iddy, Ally, Innocent, Hamad, the chef and everyone else we forgot to name, are stars! Everyone we met were incredibly kind and made us feel like family. We can't wait to come back! Much love to everyone at Zawadi!

The BAB's (5 fun girls from Upstate NY) went on safari and 2 were able to extend our trip to relax and be spoiled at Zawadi...our 'Safari under the Sea'. We are SO glad we did!! Evelyne, Noa, Bernard, Iddy, Mabula, Innocent & Azzy all made us feel welcome. The luxuries were evident from the entry in hospitality to the amenities provided in our guest room...large comfortable bed, soft pillows, beautiful, large bathroom soaking tub, private separate LARGE walk in shower & separate toilet/bidet room... complete with private patio overlooking the Indian Ocean including our own outdoor hot tub, lounges and hammock swaying in the tropical breezes... The food was delicious and included varieties with tropical flavors as well as favorite local cuisine. If you aren't that adventurous, Hakuna Matada, chef was very accommodating. The Zawadi team is a professional group who excel at customer service and hospitality. Always a smile and ready to assist! The drinks were plentiful and had lots of tropical mixies to choose from. Always fun to try new & different concoctions. Snorkeling (including mask, snorkel & fins) plus a boat ride to the blue lagoon was all included in our stay. Clear kayaks are also included - we were able to explore the ocean floor during low tide and see all the coral, shells and fish as we paddled. This resort and its team get 2 thumbs way up!! Whenever we are able to come back to Zanzibar, Zawadi will be our home away from home. <3

The Zawadi hotel is amazing! The site and attention to all detail is wonderful. The villas are spacious and meticulously maintained. The bathroom was luxurious and enormous. We spent much of our time simply sitting and relaxing on the veranda of our villa enjoying the expansive view of the Indian Ocean. The staff look to fulfill your every need and it was wonderful to feel pampered. Dining is also next level, with delicious food at every meal. I cannot say enough about this experience and would happily return!

Our 4 nights at Zawadi erased any question we had about traveling so far for a beach getaway. We arrived here after 6 nights on safari, an ideal capstone to an amazing Tanzania and Zanzibar adventure. The entire place evokes calm serenity. Decor is cool modern, yet comfortable. Facilities are well maintained with noted attention to detail. The staff is friendly, welcoming, and on top of their games … - Evelyne, Noa, and Isaack at the front - Bernardo, Iddy, Ally, and Innocent for food and drink service. - Chef and his kitchen for beautifully presented, delicious dishes at every meal and throughout the day - Mabula for showing us the farm, animals, and attentive pool service - Housekeeping and grounds staff for maintaining high standards for the villas and grounds Many of the 12 villas were occupied during our stay, but we felt like we were on a quiet, private island. The reef protecting the beach area means you can walk out to explore the many tide pools during low tide, and soak in ocean views from your villa or thatch umbrellas on the sandy terraces, while listening to the distance waves crashing into the reef. We loved having our own plunge pool, sunny in the morning and shaded in the afternoon. The main pool is terraced and serene, with direct sun all day. - note the pool loungers don’t have umbrellas. The villas are much larger than expected, with a humongous, comfortable bed, and super spacious bath suite. Complimentary water bottles and beach bag are a nice touch. We didn’t partake in the water activities, spa, or outside excursions, but this is the place for a peaceful, contemplative escape in a lush, exclusive environment.

What an amazing and special place this is. We have been fortunate to stay at top hotels worldwide and the Zawadi is up there with the very best. Having spent 8 nights here we could not find fault at all in anything. The villa was breathtakingly beautiful and was maintained daily to the highest standard by Severina. The food and wine were absolutely delicious, the view of the Indian Ocean will be firmly embedded in our minds forever but what makes Zawadi so special is the people. Evelyn, you have got everything so right. Your staff are well trained and an absolute credit to you. We were greeted with a smile and "jambo" by every singie member of staff whenever we saw them and addressed by name. This hotel runs like clockwork and that doesn't happen by accident! Other organisations should spend time at Zawadi and see what excellence looks like. Evelyn, Noa and Bernard are natural leaders and have created something very very special. When we left the hotel to go on various tours we were always greeted with "welcome home" and that is exactly how it felt. The waiters in the restaurants need a huge slap on the back - always efficient, polite and courteous. Special mention to Iddy, Ally, Raja, Innocent, Mr M - sorry if I've missed anyone - you were all fabulous. The food is outstanding with menus changing daily. Thank you so much for a perfect stay and would love to return in the future. Anybody looking to book this hotel - just do it! Honestly you will not be disappointed.

This is a fantastic place to unwind. The villas are very spacious, clean and the terrace has a fantastic view. Staff and food are amazing and I really enjoyed the all inclusive concept. I went on the complementary snorkeling trip and was surprised how great it was (there is a lot to see). Their own spice garden and the little farm are beautiful. There were only two things I was unhappy with: traveling alone it was not advised to walk alone on the beach during low tide (I appreciated that the hotel told me though) and there is a string with a coconut outside the villa to indicate „do not disturb“. I always forgot that I had put it up and in the dark tripped over it every night when I went to dinner. These are small things and did not have an impact on the otherwise relaxing holiday I had at Zawadi. I absolutely recommend this hotel and will definitely come back.

We had a wonderful stay at Zawadi. Our room was spacious, sparkling clean, luxurious and had a stunning view of the Indian Ocean. The property is beautifully maintained and plenty of seating for the amount of guests. The entire staff was willing to do anything to make our stay as special and easy as possible. Shoutout to Evelyn and Noa for putting together a great team and running a great boutique hotel + Bernard, Iddy, Raza and the rest of the F&B crew. We would highly recommend Zawadi to anyone looking for a romantic, luxurious beach vacation in Zanzibar.

Just returned from having spent 10 days at this resort booking at very short notice. We flew with Kenya Airways from London via Nairobi and got our visas on arrival as suggested on the Zanzibar TA discussion forum with our forms downloaded and completed in in advance of our arrival. We sailed through with our luggage collected and out of the airport within about 20 minutes of touchdown leaving those who hadn’t and those who had e-visas still queuing! This is a fabulous little Adults Only resort, expertly run by Evelyne and her deputy Noa with F&B team overseen by Bernard. The resort is kept immaculately clean and tidy by gardeners and cleaning staff and they all really can’t do enough for you. The resort is All Inclusive, food always seems to be available and is of a very good standard and all a la carte. Breakfast breads, croissants and pastries (so delicious and home made) and fruit platters are brought to your table and there is a “main course” option to choose from. Lunch has a selection of starters, a pasta dish and some mains choices, always with vegetarian options. Dinner was similar and you can have as few or as many courses as you wish (and down or upsize portion size if so inclined!) Sundowner drinks and small nibbles are brought to your room around 6ish together with the evening menu and if you’d prefer something different Chef William was always happy to oblige. Afternoon tea (if you can manage it, we never could) is served 4ish. Menus changed daily but some items did reappear over our 10 day stay. I’ve attached some lunch and dinner menus pics to give an idea. The wine selection with several types of white, red and a rose and a fizzy wine were quite decent (think £8-12 per bottle standard in the UK) and glasses were frequently topped up. We had live music from local performers at dinner a few times which we really enjoyed. We arrived late morning but were taken to our villa straight away. It was absolutely huge with a massive (at least 7’ wide) but very comfy bed together with very comfy pillows ( I’m fussy when it comes to pillows!) We were a bit concerned seeing all the mosquito netting over the bed but needn’t have been as we didn’t get a single mossie bite during our stay and didn’t see any other guests with them either, a first for us for a tropical holiday! Their was a bottle of sparkling wine and fruit platter waiting for us, such a nice touch! There’s a mini bar with full bottles of white and red wine, Coke, Fanta, Sprite , 2 types of Beer, cider, milk and soda water plus nuts and a kettle. There is a water cooler so plenty of nice cold drinking water literally on tap! The bathroom had shampoo/conditioner, body wash, liquid soap and hard soap and re-filled daily. The shower pressure wasn’t the strongest but did the job. There was a salon style hairdryer but the only place to plug it in near a mirror was in the bathroom so I was sometimes a sweaty mess after drying my thick hair as there’s no a/c in there! The plugs are 3 pin UK type and plenty of storage but no drawers, not even bedside ones. The TV has about 16 channels but mainly News, Sports or Music, no entertainment channels as such. We didn’t use the plunge pool as it was always very warm and our terrace had lots of lovely shade with fantastic views but sun lovers would need to move elsewhere as it was completely in the shade from about 1.30pm. Clean towels for your sunloungers (very comfy with thick padded cushions btw) are left at turndown service and it’s no problem if you want extra. Sweet treats are also left together with a little scroll informing of low and high tides and best times for snorkelling. We were strongly advised to stick to these as there were very strong currents outside of them. There is a concrete walkway from the beach accessible to the snorkelling area at low tide seen on the attached pic. You can walk along the beach in either direction at low tide but do wear beach/reef shoes (hotel will loan them to you) as there are many rocks/stones sharp corals in the sand. There is a nice swimming pool with surrounding loungers that takes advantage of the sun all day (drinks can be served to your lounger) and massages are provided in the little spa area which are well recommended; reasonably priced and wonderfully executed (than you Safia!) There is a little gift shop, book exchange and a small gym. We took a private day trip to Stone Town arranged by the hotel and had a very nice day out with a friendly and informative driver/guide. If you have time, ask to be shown around the gardens and farm at the rear of the hotel, it’s great to see how the hotel is growing its own veg and herbs and the donkeys are especially cute! We had fantastic weather during our stay, every day the forecast said rain a possibility but apart from one day when it was a bit hazy in the afternoon we had wall to wall sunshine with temps in high 20s but it did become hotter and a lot more humid during the second part of out stay. Staff said the best time to visit is July, August and September. We had an evening departure flight and we were very kindly allowed to keep our room until our departure at 4.30pm which was much appreciated as it made for a very relaxing last day. Some things to note/areas for improvement: 1. We sometimes like a drink before and after dinner, there is a great cocktail menu as well as a Gin one and all spirts are branded (included in the AI) but the bar area was almost always empty and devoid of atmosphere despite the hotel being mostly fully occupied during our time there. A change of lighting (ambient low level instead of the overhead ones) for example and having some music in there would go someway to alleviating this and make it a much more inviting place. 2. Milk. There is no fresh pasteurised milk in Zanzibar, only a slightly sweetened (with a bit of a sour aftertaste) locally produced UHT milk which does not go well in tea (or coffee according to Mr W) so you may like to prepare for a caffeine free stay if you’re fussy! 3. The wines seem to change daily, sometimes the waiters weren’t too sure what was available so it would be nice to have a daily menu printed to accompany the food menu to avoid confusion. E.G one evening we had a nice Pino Grigio (white) asked for it next evening and when they brought it to the table it was a Rose and it was the only one they had that evening. 4. Some of the waiters were very softly spoken so it made it difficult to hear them sometimes. 5. The hotel is set back from the main road behind high walls and gates so completely safe though there is nothing close by to walk to. The access from the beach is also guarded but we never saw any beach sellers nearby during our walks as the beach cove gets cut off at high tide. 6. This is not the place to come to if you like plenty of daytime or evening entertainment. It’s extremely quiet and low key which is just what we wanted! Overall we had a fantastic time and would recommend without a doubt to those looking for a quiet stay in stunning surroundings in a lovely spacious private villa with friendly staff to look after you and those not afraid to put a few pounds on with the delicious food!
