Walter and Zita greet your with their lovely hospitality to this stunning spot on the lake. This is a perfect spot for a family with Unit 2 having 2 rooms, a fully-stocked kitchen and unparalleled views of the lake. Comfortable beds and reasonable prices. Book early as it is hard to get in here! The star-gazing guide and info provided by Walter really made the stay so much more enjoyable!

We had a really nice stay at The Chalet. Walter and Zita are perfect hosts, the apartment was really nice with direct access to a sunny garden. The Chalet is fully equipped with washing machine and dryer, daily room service is provided as well.
Perfectly located for walks around the lake and no 5min walk to local restaurants. No need to visit the observatory...just get out on the street and you have a fantastic views of the Milky Way!
When you plan to come to lake Tekapo and Mt McKinlay/Denali- stay at The Chalet and you won't be disappointed :-)

Our daughter wife & myself spent two nights at Unit # 2 here at this unique property , a truly wonderful experience!!. The Chalet is a small group of units and part-cottages on the shore of the beautiful Lake Tekapo, units are located very close to the lake . The town is only a 10 minutes walk away and there are several restaurants and a cool trendy 4 Square supermarket to top up your supplies.
The view from the rooms is priceless & the night sky is a special surprise awaiting you if the conditions are perfect
The beds are very comfortable, rooms were clean, also a full fledged laundry is available on site should you need it. As for the host, Walter& Zita, I can only echo the comments made by previous reviewers - a charming, helpful and informative couple.
we have travelled quite well over the years, & would not hesitate to recommend this property or return with the rest of the family if we had a chance

Zita and Walter are so friendly and welcoming. We stayed in unit 2 with a great view of the lake on our patio, directly across the road from the lake front. We enjoyed the star gazing map offered by our hosts and stepping outside our patio door to enjoy the beautiful night sky was a magical experience. The underfloor heating in the lounge area was so warm and the unit was exceptionally clean and well catered for. Extra blankets and even towels provided for The Tekapo Springs. Together my expectations were exceeded. Thank you Walter and Zita I would definitely stay again upon my next visit to Tekapo.

We spent two nights here, staying in Unit 1. It was a truly wonderful experience. It is a small group of units and part-cottages on the shore of the beautiful Lake Tekapo about 100 metres away. The local ‘town’ is 10 minutes walk away and there are several restaurants and a supermarket there.
The view from the Chalet is world class, without exaggeration. Whoever put that lake and those mountains there had a great eye for design.
The accommodation was comfortable, stylish and well maintained. There is even a laundry. As for the host, Walter, I can only echo the comments made by previous reviewers - a charming, helpful and informative gentleman.
I can recommend this accommodation without hesitation to anyone travelling to Tekapo.

The reason I don’t give this 5 stars is because the owner insists on a 2 night stay. The lake is beautiful, a stunning visual treat but that plus the cafe on the mountain, is Lake Tekapo. The town, if you can call it that, is souvenir shops and cheap restaurants. If you can stay at the Chalet for one night it’s very good, if not stay for an overnight stop elsewhere.

We had an amazing stay at the Chalet at Lake Tekapo. The boutique motel offered a uniquely homely feel in a spacious setting with fantastic amenities. Located on the lake-front of Lake Tekapo, a convenient walk across the footbridge to the town, but just far enough away to avoid the crowds if you need some quiet time, the location couldn't be better. The fantastic units and location are supported by two amazing hosts Walter and Zita, whom did everything to make our stay a purely positive experience. We will definitely be back again!

On recommendation from family, we booked in to stay at Henkel Hut (part of The Chalet Boutique Motel) for our stay in Tekapo. We stayed here for 2 nights and cannot recommend this place enough.

The views from the Hut are amazing with uninterrupted views of the lake and mountains. The hut itself is very comfortable and well appointed. It has small kitchen too so you can self cater and enjoy your breakfast/lunch/dinner on the deck with amazing views.

Walter was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful too and made our stay really enjoyable.

Thank you so much for having us, we will definitely be back again!!

Friends recommended we stay at The Chalet and so pleased they did as our 2 night stay in Unit 2 was the highlight of accommodation on our South Island holiday. Walter was a charming and very knowledgable host and nothing was too much trouble for him.
The views were outstanding, The Chalet itself was exceptionally clean and comfortable and the garden was so attractive - even the lupins were out!
Have strongly recommended to others.

Staying at The Chalet in Lake Tekapo felt like being home. It was the perfect accommodation choice. So close to all the interesting places and restaurants. Walter & Zita were so welcoming and made us feel like old friends who came to visit. We were at The Henkel Hut and it was so lovely, comfortable, warm, tidy and has the most stunning view.

Sorry to read this, when did you actually email us. We normally try to respond in at least 24h. Our email provider just handed our email account over to a new provider and they seem to have some teething problems. We are in the Sandwich and at their mercy at the moment. Yes, we are running The Chalet since 1987 , hence we are having a lot of loyal returning guests. And we are working very hard to make sure all our guests can experience a very pleasant stay. please resend us your email again or call #006436806774 Just give us a chance, please. Kind regards Zita from LAKE TEKAPO

Can you advise how you check availability ? Thanks
Answer from Vera W
Singapore, Singapore214 contributions22 helpful votes
You have to email or call them directly. They are not big hotel chains where there’s online booking. The boutique accommodation is managed by a Swiss family FYI.
Answer from Zita S
Sorry for the late reply....Yes all apartments/cottage at The Chalet do have super king size beds / some have additional single beds plus queen size sofa beds in the livingrooms. All super king size beds can be converted into 2 single beds. Ideally you let management know at the time of booking request, (email) , and we'll advise you best suitable apartment, availabilities etc. We would love to welcoming you here at The Chalet. Happy travelling, kind regards zita
