We took the catamaran, and while it was expensive to go private ($600~), the two men on board were great! Delicious food and plenty to drink (alcoholic or not). Snorkeling was ok, the private beach we docked at was beautiful (VERY hot sand- bring flip flops!) Double and triple check with the hotel that you are getting what you paid for. We booked a sunset tour and when we arrived, the hotel said that there were no sunset tours that week and put us on the 8am. Not what we paid for! We were disappointed to miss the sunset cruise and dinner.
As for nightlife- there is very little, if any. A chill restaurant/bar on the beach (Limonada). And,the bar at the hotel that is very low key. The hotel bar is relaxing, lovely bar/lounge with good drinks, but mostly dead at night (post-dinner hours) and no upbeat music. We had the place to ourselves every night after dinner hours. You can take a ride to nearby towns which are 20-45 minutes away. There are some more upbeat places there with music, game nights, slightly more lively atmosphere and more people to converse with. Expensive hotel transportation, though, so its best to hire a car if you are looking to be social.
