Detailed Reviews
We ended up at this resort by co-incidence, during a Thai holiday weekend, with most places fully booked. They are a bit of a walk from the beach and we got one of the last large rooms. They were clean and had air-con. This is not Bangkok, but an island with still many backpackers, so we were quite happy and would go back there. Staff was average, it seem most of the Thais on this island have a bit an attitude. The area is on a party beach. So it is not very quiet until 2 am or so.

This guesthouse is a good choice for backpackers on a budget that want a clean room with AC. It's really basic rooms, double bed, hot shower. It's aprox 7-10 min walk to the beach up/down a hill but for 1000bath it's worth it. Though it was clean i still felt like the bed had flees or beg buds, we got bitten on the legs. Overall a nice choice for travelers on a budget.

My wife and I booked this place for around 700 baht per night. We stayed for two nights and i would say that was plenty.
The place was not bad, as clean and nice as it should be for the price.
Pros
Cheap
Decent room
Great Wifi from Room
Quiet
Beds are moderately comfortable
Cons
Tons of mosquitos
Shower is next to toilet
not near anything
Conclusion
Decent place to stay for the price, but I would recommend spending the extra 500 baht to stay at jeps right up the street.

When booking one month in advance, calling to reconfirm a week before check-in, one would think that the two rooms that we had booked would be waiting for us. Not the case at The Lost Resort.
When arriving with spouse and parents at Koh Samet, carrying all our bags up the road to this place (far from the beach), we are greeted by the rudest Englishman I've ever met. When it turns out that they don't have our booking, he don't apologize and try to make up for it. Instead, he has the decency to tell us that we should know better, than to book with his staff (!) instead of booking through the website (one would think that calling twice and receive a confirmation twice would be enough!). Cause after all, according to the owner, one can't expect more from a place where you pay 800 THB/night. And this is coming from the owner himself!
When it turns out that it's a long weekend and a music festival going on on the island, and everything is fully booked, he refuses to help us with calling any of the other hotels, always coming back to the same thing - that it's ours, not his (!) fault!
I have never met a man being so rude or so unhelpful in my entire life. He himself apparently had no belief in the place he's running, or the staff he's hiring, calling them (in our faces) idiots, drunkards and other impolite things.
After arguing with him for 30 minutes, realizing that we would get nowhere, we decided to go to Tub Tim, where we managed to get their last two bungalows for 600 THB, and were greeted by smiling Thai management and staff.
I would not recommend The Lost Resort to anyone!

We had never been to Koh Samet before, and didn't understand that many people who go do not make reservations in advance and that there are many properties that operate on a first-come first-serve basis.
So, we scoured the internet for places that took reservations. Since we were going in the high season, we ended up with either 1) expensive places out of our price range 2)well-reviewed affordable places that were full or 3)The Lost Resort. The Lost Resort had a favorable description in a couple of obscure places (wikitravel, a two-year-old travel blog) so we thought it would probably be just fine.
Well, we arrive, follow the owner's directions to the place and find that although it was advertised as being "quiet and away from the noisy beach" it was instead on this inland road that was traveled at all hours by noisy motorcycles and trucks. Also, it was old, very shabby, and basically looked like a nasty motel on the inside. It looked like the kind of room popular with drug addicts and hookers--stained walls, ancient creaky bed, dim, yellow lights. The sheets were threadbare and patterned, and the towels were navy blue. This may not sound like a big deal, but if you're using colored or patterned linens, it's much harder to tell how clean they are. We spent the first few hours trying to find somewhere else to stay, but to no avail, everywhere else was already booked. Luckily we were only there for two nights. The breakfast served at the hotel was nothing special, and much better food was available at the beach. Next time we know better. Also, I suspect that the positive information I found online was either severely out-dated or created by the owner since he has the advantage of being a native English speaker whereas many of the other places in Koh Samet are Thai-owned.

Arrived on Samed after a long trip up Thailand from Ao Nang, Krabi. The sun was setting as we took the half an hour boat ride from the mainland. We arrived in darkness and the hunt started for a place to stay. We took a taxi to Silversands area of Samed and viewed a couple of places when we were approached by a British guy called Dave. Being british I took comfort in this and he said he owned a place up the road we could take a look at. We agreed and hauled our bags up a steep slope for about 10 minutes when we arrived at the foot of about 20- 30 steps into complete darkness. It was like deliverence meets thailand very creepy. Anyway Frankenstein (sorry Dave) showed us up to the rooms. After a long day of travelling the dull, uninterseting, cell like rooms were actually quite appealing. After an our or so of arriving there was a power cut the whole property and island for that matter went into complete shut down and there was a thunder storm. I knocked at Daves place down the hill for advice on what was happening he was very laid back and seemed totally uninterested. I was bitten to bits by mosquitos as aircon was down. It shouldbe called the last resort never mind the lost resort. It was too remote, dark and felt very unsafe..!!!

I'm writing this review because I think that this resort deserves better reviews. Ok, it is not a five star resort, but it is one of the cheapest (weekday around B 800), with a really nice and clean room. It is basic, but has a nice bed, tv, aircondition, and a private bathroom.
De staff is very friendly though. We did our laundry there and it was finished the same day. And the first day we had some problems with the water and toilet, but they fixed it immediatly.
We think the location was actually really great (if you don't mind to walk for five/ten minutes). It is not near the beach, but really close to two beaches (we really liked the tubtim beach), so you don't need to rent a motorbike or take a taxi, what's quiet expensive though.
After two nights we had to leave, because of the wheater. Otherwise we would definitly stayed one more night here.
We really recommend this place, especially if you're on a small budget!
One thing: no breakfast options. But wasn't a real problem for us, because we took a breakfast on the beach (recommend bamboo cafe).

Great place, it is what it says it is at the end of the day, a lost resort tucked away waiting to be found. It is one of the islands original long standing resorts and offers a reasonable clean practical room at a very fair price. I like the fact that this place has stayed true to it's roots and hardly changed over the years. At the end of the day if you want a five star luxury resort then you should have gone to Phuket instead of Samed, most people don't appreciate that the Island is only 7 km long and back in the day there was no electric ...so all you folk wanting your free wifi passwords and depending on gps to get around should consider yourselves lucky, back in the day you would have never been able to exist on this island. David the owner is a safe guy and has lived on the Island longer than most of the locals, adding to the community spirit and respected by those who know him. On long weekends when there is 'no room at the inn' give this place a try and your normally lucky enough to get a room.

I stayed 6 night here and I liked it. Everything functioned very well. Friendly staff and friendly owner. I paid to much though, 1200 bath pr.night. 7-800 would be more to the standard, not even breakfast included.
I enjoyd the little walk to the Beach.
PS, With a good mosquitocream I had no problems at all.
