Spent yesterday in Alotau, off the ship Coral Princess.
A predictably hot & humid day and during a walk along main road, back to the dock we happened across the hotel, a welcome stop for some shade, a cold drink and a great view over Milne Bay.
Super friendly staff, from security on the gate to the lady in the outdoor bar hut.
Good selection of beers including the PNG owned South Pacific Brewery range.
Large garden & lawn area, more like a park than a beer garden.

Really good staff at what is now the Alotau Bay Hotel. Some of the best smiles in PNG. The rest of the place is average, with the exception of the sunset view, which is terrific. Food was ok, with some reasonably large portions. Recommend if you’re transiting to Tawali.

When there's a power outage, they run an electric generator, which makes and extremely awful noise. And when there's not, you have the noise of the AC, which we could not turn off.
Wi-Fi does not work properly. It disconnects all the time and when it connects there's no data.
At the dorm bathroom there's no lid at the toilet. Unbelievable. And other things are broken there too.
The locker did not work either.
Other things are OK. Service is very good. there's a bar at the beach and a nice restaurant with terrace. The swimming pool was clean.

The location is ideal with beautiful views of the bay and close to the markets and town. The staff were excellent, friendly and helpful. Although the hotel was very busy with a political conference, they made time to ensure my visit went well. The room was good, bed comfortable good amenities and a view of the bay. The restaurant provided good service and good food. The prawns were lovely, white, plump and firm. I would certainly stay there again and hopefully I will some day.

This review is of the restaurant where we had drinks on a hot day; well I guess every day is hot in Alotau but all the same we needed a drink and this was the place to get it.
The service was great and very friendly; island friendly - extremely warm and welcoming. The drinks were ice cold with prices that were much lower than I was expecting. They take Visa too which was essential for us as we had none of the local currency. The restaurant had a pleasant atmosphere. What we saw of the rest of the hotel seemed nice; this is a place we would happily stay.

For Alotau this is probably the best hotel around in the area. The staff are very friendly & helpful. The rooms are basic (or should I say beach style rooms), yet they are extremely clean. The food was ok and I felt safe whilst staying here, which for me was very important. I would definitely stay here again when next in Alotau, there truly isn't much choice out here ..... Wifi would be an asset, but that will probably happen in time.

We were in Alotau on a cruise ship stopover and to be frank, there is little to see or do in the town but nevertheless we had a good wander around, visited the market, some shops and the Milne Bay war memorial. This is a relatively underdeveloped country and it is clear that there are high levels of poverty and there are security guards on most of the larger stores and at the banks and post office which suggests that crime may be a problem. However we wandered around freely, never felt threatened and our interaction with the locals was all positive. We wanted to have lunch in town and the International Hotel seemed to be the only reasonable option. It has a great location with well tended gardens leading down to a small promenade overlooking the sea. There is a bar in the garden area where we lingered for a drink before going into the restaurant which is light and airy. Service was a little slow by western standards and the cuisine whilst very acceptable to us would not suit everyones tastes. But, hey, you need to have a sense of adventure when visiting such places. All in all, the hotel is a very pleasant environment and we enjoyed our brief visit.

I arrived by P&O Cruises and only had a few hours in Alotau. We had a very nice and informative village tour in the morning. Our local guide is nice enough to show me around in town center in the afternoon. He did this all voluntarily and for free, so afterwards, I decided to buy him a drink at this hotel.
Though I did not stay here, I can see it is a nice place to stay if I decide to come back to Alotau again and stay here for a few days. It has a great view across the Bay (Milne Bay) and the swimming pool is clean. The beer is cold and the service is friendly.
