We spent five days in Alotau attending the Anzac Day commemoration. The hotel is under going an expansion and the main building and surrounds could do with a refurbishment. Our twin room was basic but nice and comfortable however, the air-conditioner is old and could not keep the room cool. The bathroom is old and tired looking with broken fixtures, door handle and lock. There is a generator outside that is incredibly loud when it comes on which is frequently due to the many power outages. The Wi-Fi wouldn't connect, the pool was small but clean and refreshing, staff friendly and helpful and the food was good however, the menu could do with more on offer especially for vegetarians. There was a lot of garbage thrown around near the fenced-off water area which I pointed out to the manager suggesting perhaps some bins. There is a good market a short walk away which we visited a couple of times and went on an over-priced tour of some of the WWII sights which we suggest hiring a car.

Spent yesterday in Alotau, off the ship Coral Princess. A predictably hot & humid day and during a walk along main road, back to the dock we happened across the hotel, a welcome stop for some shade, a cold drink and a great view over Milne Bay. Super friendly staff, from security on the gate to the lady in the outdoor bar hut. Good selection of beers including the PNG owned South Pacific Brewery range. Large garden & lawn area, more like a park than a beer garden.

When there's a power outage, they run an electric generator, which makes and extremely awful noise. And when there's not, you have the noise of the AC, which we could not turn off. Wi-Fi does not work properly. It disconnects all the time and when it connects there's no data. At the dorm bathroom there's no lid at the toilet. Unbelievable. And other things are broken there too. The locker did not work either. Other things are OK. Service is very good. there's a bar at the beach and a nice restaurant with terrace. The swimming pool was clean.

Really good staff at what is now the Alotau Bay Hotel. Some of the best smiles in PNG. The rest of the place is average, with the exception of the sunset view, which is terrific. Food was ok, with some reasonably large portions. Recommend if you’re transiting to Tawali.

Me and my friend stayed at AIH for two weeks. It’s a wonderful place, with gorgeous view on the sea and harbour, super calm, safe and central location. We spent a lot of time by the pool which was perfect. The staff was incredible, so helpful and nice we felt at home and would have loved to stay longer. We definitely recommend this place for your stay at Alotau. Thank you again for everything AIH!

The location is excellent if you are attending the Kenu and Kundu festival as it is walking distance. The rooms are comfortable with views or glimpses of the sea. The food is average. We had attempted to book through the hotel web site twice with no reply. We then booked three nights through booking.com. When we arrived we were bumped for the first night. they offered to find alternate accommodation or a site shed (see picture below). Eventually after asking to speak to the manager we were offered a room of inferior quality to the one we had booked. The arrogant receptionist made it clear that it was our fault as we had booked through booking.com. We were not given an apology or a refund. We were paying $300 per night.

Spent couple if days in Alotau and stayed at Alotau International. Room is basic, but clean and spacious. Wifi worked ok. Hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. The continental breakfast is terrible though. If you want an omelette you will have to fork out an additional 20 K.

For Alotau this is probably the best hotel around in the area. The staff are very friendly & helpful. The rooms are basic (or should I say beach style rooms), yet they are extremely clean. The food was ok and I felt safe whilst staying here, which for me was very important. I would definitely stay here again when next in Alotau, there truly isn't much choice out here ..... Wifi would be an asset, but that will probably happen in time.
