Huge disappointment, from A to Z unfortunately, with only a very few positives to report. Overall, the resort seems to be under a lot of economic pressure, due to low number of travelers, and that has unfortunately impacted services and business approach. It started with the shuttle service, for which guests are being charged, that took almost 2 hours (instead of one) since after airport pickup other guests needed to be picked up from an oil palm plantation that was located in the opposite direction. They could have easily been picked up in advance, instead of having all other travelers driven 2 hours back and forth. Upon arrival I was informed that the resort made in error with my invoice - which I had pre-paid - now more than doubling my room prince. Not even a small discount was offered for an error totally beyond my control. I ended up paying 3 full extra nights that were ‘overlooked’ during booking. Rooms are not up to standard. The most annoying thing is that the floor is shared with the adjacent bungalow and hence all movement, steps and everything else (!) happing next door is also felt in your bungalow half and vice versa. Zero privacy is the result. Food quality is average and over the Christmas holidays hordes of day tourists arrived, playing loud music on the beach and ruining any aspirations for a ‘getaway’ holiday in a ‘remote’ resort. Some days we sat on the back porch since loud day tourist groups occupied the main dining area. Not even the highly paying longer term guests were prioritized. We needed to pay for an expensive day trip by boat to a remote little uninhabited island just to have a day of calm. The large dive boat is broken dawn, rusting at the jetty and used as bunk bed hostel for large package groups. Divers are being taken out in small boats. There is no safe in the room. The list is long, but unfortunately this is the bitter truth and experience we had. Avoid going during holiday season, try the off season - if at all - as you will otherwise get the opposite of calm, remoteness and nature you have paid for. No value for money. Staff other wise friendly and carting. There’s a local replacement cook that is much better than the expatriate regular cook. Cocktails are good, though expensive.

Room Tip: Avoid high/holiday season since the resort will be overcrowded by day tourists. As for a bungalow...

Tawali's location is really peacefull and amazing, surrounded by untouched wilderness and crystal clear water. Spacious and comfortable rooms that might deserve a slight refreshing. High quality service for housekeeping, meals, guided tours... We were not yet OW certified at that time so we only snorkeled but it was already great ! We will definitely come back to explore diving spots there.

We were looking for a Christmas break away from Port Moresby and found it at Tawali! Alotau (Gurney) is a short flight from POM, and were met by the bus for a 90 minute shuttle to a small dock where the Tawali boat was waiting to take us to the resort 15 minutes away. Lunch on arrival, shown to our room then were snorkelling on the (excellent) house reef by 2pm! We were there for 3 days - saw the skull caves and nearby waterfall, went on a day trip to a nearby island, another snorkelling morning - had a great time! Food was also plentiful and tasty and all staff warm and welcoming. Highly recommended!

We traveled here with a young family in October and it was amazing. From the moment you get off the boat the warm welcome and friendly staff just make it special. A huge thank you to Nozaki who was so helpful in assisting with our booking and ensured everything was in order for our perfect holiday. She even checked and alerted us that the special airfares were still available on a number of occasions. Traveling with young kids the staff were exceptionally thoughtful and offered for our dinner to be served earlier than the standard 7pm start. This was such a thoughtful gesture and never have we ever had such a attention and special treatment in the world. The food was great and a very big variety with 2 of us being vegetarians chef Benson did an outstanding job and there was plenty to eat and a very good variety. Outstanding fresh seafood every day. Snorkeling off the beach was great as well as the kayaks. Definitely do the skull cave day trip and remember to bring along some toys and clothes for the village kids as they are really friendly and it's pretty remote there. Definitely a highlight of our PNG experience and highly recommend Tawali for the most unforgettable stay. Lovely resort, untouched remote pristine location and amazing staff.

If you are looking for great diving, untouched reefs, friendly local people and options of several land tours Tawali is your place to go. We have been diving several interesting places all over our planet. Tawali offers beautiful coral reef with incredibly lot to see. You will mainly find small stuff, so get your macro lens ready. Our last dive at Tawali (Luvadi Beach – Muck) offered us a huge number of extraordinary species, which in average you will see in a week of diving, just outstanding. Which house reef offers Mandarin fish and of course much more. Diving is relaxed, not industrial, the dive guides are really taking care of you and are pointing to all the interesting stuff, without being pushy. I personally recommend a night dive with the dive master Nozaki, start with the Mandarin Fish and keep on going for almost 90 Minutes. Or Alberto, who really tries to find all sea horses, nude branches, hairy ghost pipe fish, squid and leaf fish to mention only some. Looking into the blue you will see some sharks, turtles and several napoleon. Finally, I like to say, we really enjoyed our one week stay. Everybody was taking care of us, we definitely got spoiled. Our great thanks to the whole Tawali team.

Enjoyed the peaceful environment. Was met at the main wharf by the Resort Manager and a staff who assisted us to the resort's reception where we were given drinks and given a visual tour of the resort. The room was spacious with very comfortable beds. The views of the reef around the resort are just magnificent! I could look at that view all day! Tried out the pool although it would need more TLC cleaning-wise. However, would love to visit Tawali Resort again to go on hikes and cave visits.

Tawali Resort is stunning! A group of fifteen of us were there for a long weekend with several kids 4yo - 12yo, young adults, and older adults, and everyone was engaged the whole time with interesting things to see and do such as swimming in the pool or in the sea, snorkelling, going on a hike, playing board games, visiting a waterfall and skull cave, picnicing on an island, fishing, watching traditional dancers.. such an interesting place to stay, and we all had a fantastic time! The food was absolutely sensational, and the staff were wonderful. The rooms are very big and spacious. I found my mattress a bit hard and uncomfortable but no-one else had that problem. Airport pick up and drop off were efficient and the drive both ways was comfortable. Highly recommended. I would love to go back!

Very Nice resort with great snorkeling right in front of the swimming pool, the tour to the coral garden is amazing! Skull caves were very interesting, restaurant serves very good food, Nice clean rooms with good bedding, and all the necessary things. The road from the airport is brand new so a easy drive to the resort! And at least very friendly people!! The only thing I would recommend is to book thruh booking.com, room with full board, I paid way to much! If you book only the room , you have to pay for the food and that’s really too expensive!

Superb location (but takes awhile to get there) Excellent diving, although staff seemed unfamiliar with some of the sites and so not all turned out perfectly. Lots of excellent diving very close to resort. Marvelous cultural experiences and easy walk to local village Accommodations very good
