My experience at Casa de Santiago was simply perfect, even better than what i expected. The House is an ancient family manor with many of the original forniture and interiors, is amazing.
The outdoor area and the garden is just beautiful, with many trees and plants and flowers. The best thing is to enjoy the garden and the amazing pool!
Altough the very best thing of Casa de Santiago is the welcome of Joanna and Artur, the two guys who manage the house. They are the most kind and warm hosts, they’ll make you feel part of the family!
But the icing on the cake is the amazing breakfast they make, with fresh fruit from the garden and the most delicious yogurt i ever had! They make it themselvs! Yogurt home made!! Just amazing!

It is an amazing hotel where you feel at home but at the same time in a sophisticated and very good taste environment. The room was excellent with a very good bed (so comfortable!). For me it is the perfect place to stay in Alentejo in Portugal. You can either choose to stay in, relaxing or go to the beaches near by. We had the most amazing breakfast, full of fresh fruit, fresh juices, Alentejo bread and a big variety of food. The staff and the hosts were very friendly and always available to help us and to provide us with a fantastic experience. I will return for sure! It´s my favorite hotel in Alentejo.

I agree with all the reviews except the one that said "it could be better, renovation needed" which is absolutely NOT true. We found our entire experience delightful, charming, unique. Please stay here and enjoy feeling like you've lived in Portugal since the 1600's! (It's a great halfway stop between Lisbon and the Algarve. Don't expect a lot from the rather so-so town (there's a cooking school to attend somewhere at a hotel in Santiago but we heard about it too late. Maybe it's on Airbnb Experiences?) but we had a better cooking lesson in the kitchen at Casa Santiago anyway.)

We are so happy to have found this wonderful place. We did a road trip and have been driving all day and wanted to experience a historical guest house. The service was incredible. The house is beautiful and completely available to you. When we arrived they parked our car and brought our luggage to the room. They even upgraded us to a bigger room as we were the only guests that evening. We were offered some water and freshly baked banana bread that was delicious.
the room was beautiful and comfortable and spotless. There was a heater in the room that helped as it was a bit of a cold evening.
the breakfast was incredible. Home made yoghurt and jams and bread, what more can you ask for.
I highly recommend this place and the wonderful service.

Francisco, the owner, is truly passionate about the property that has belonged to his family since 1797. We were lucky enough to get a tour from him around the house and it’s the kind of experience we love. Every room was impeccably clean and tidy, FULL of charm and authenticity. Every single renovation was done in a beautiful way considering the original aspects of it. Can’t wait to bring our families next time!

Todas as comodidades numa casa com história e muito elegante, em pleno centro histórico da cidade. O pequeno almoço muito bom . O quarto amplo e as camas muito confortáveis. Os proprietários encantadores. Uma experiência a repetir e a recomendar.

My wife and I stayed here one night on our honeymoon, on the way to Lisbon. Francisco greeted us, and immediately had a small lunch prepared for us by the pool. The hotel is an old house which has been renovated, so it is not a modern hotel. However, Francisco did everything he could to make sure our stay was great. He set up a dinner reservation at a great restaurant for us in town, and encouraged us to go to the Santiagro Fair (where we saw Ana Moura sing!). We enjoyed our stay here.

The staff is very welcoming and the house owner is there to receive you. The concept of the house is to make you feel like you’re staying at a friends home so... there are no locks in the room doors. The breakfast it is very good and they have a fresh baked home cake which is so “granny’s home” and helps you forget that the beds are too small and you couldn’t stretch your legs all night or you get your feet out of the bed. Toilets need improvement and wasn’t very clean. Room cleaning also needing to be better, smelled like old dusty fabrics and when you seat on the couch there is a cloud of dust all over. But... is a friends house so it is not polite to complaint. The garden it’s cosy and nice although was too cold to get in the pool. The house is full of personal family objects... maybe too many causing too much visual confusion and you are free to walk all over the house. Big renovation it’s needed. In general it was nice but not to repeat.

Dear Silvia Thank you for your feedback. Its always good so that we can improve our service. We just want to clear out some questions: There are locks in the rooms and every room has their own key. Just ask for them! As for the cleaning and the dust, we find it a bit strange, since everyone praises our clean house, but we will be even more rigorous on that subject. As you said at the beginning, the concept, and the reality, is that Casa de Santiago is a family home, and we want that our guests feel at home, so we have personal objects around the house, that transmit the warmth and comfort of a real family home and not a "unpersonal" hotel. And everyone loves it. We are really sorry that you couldn't feel that way! Thank you for your suggestion for a big renovation...we will do it, but we have just finished to renew a 200 year house and we will wait a little bit to do that again! Kind regards

We spent two nights here in April and were fortunate to have found this gem. The house has a really historical feel to it and is run by Francisco, whose family home it is. The house is just in front of the castle and church, which provide a backdrop to the very beautifully designed garden and which we could see from our room. We spent a couple of hours in the sun in the garden, though it was too cold to use the pool. All of the staff were very available, extremely helpful and welcoming and there is a real feel of staying in a friend’s home. There is good WiFi in the rooms and we didn’t mind not having a tv in the room as we don’t tend to watch in on holiday. There is no kettle in the room either, though this was not a problem at all as staff were happy to provide us with hot water and tea bags on request. Overall, this was a very special stay.
