I can't review afternoon tea on its own as there isn't a listing for the afternoon tea which is in a balcony lounge so giving its its own heading so hopefully people who are searching will find it that way. Have eaten at HWAK a couple of times and always enjoyed it so decided to try something different and have the afternoon tea and it was a lovely experience. Its of course, in line with hotel prices, however, food was delicious, served on a three tier tray. You get a huge choice of teas, however being a coffee drinker, I stuck to the filter coffee which was happily refilled. I made sure I didn't have lunch so could enjoy everything on the platter. A couple of other tables weren't as wise and were defeated so although pricy, you certainly feel the portions are generous. The little fancies are super fun, the sandwiches and scones delicious and the ambience of the lounge overlooking the courtyard is lovely. Its a small area so it feels cosy and not crowded. Service was lovely. Its a great special occasion treat. Highly recommended.

Hotel's Favourite
The hotel is a tranquil beauty with unmatched service. One of our favorite hotels and we have been staying for the last 30 years. Always beautiful and great service. The pool area is relaxing with beautiful views of Diamondhead and the pool temperature perfect. Rooms perfectly appointed and great service throughout the hotel.

I could not fault this hotel at all. We enjoyed a perfect holiday with wonderful staff throughout, so helpful and attentive. We stayed in an Ocean View room with a private lanai which was just gorgeous. This room had a Partial Diamond Head view and a broad sea view. The beds are dreamy, the decor is cool and fresh, spacious bathroom with a separate automated toilet. And a decent sized hairdryer, yay! We enjoyed a lovely dinner at Orchids Restaurant and breakfast and lunch at House without a key. Both restaurants have seating either inside or outside. Each night there is complimentary Hawaiian entertainment in the garden with a very old kiawe tree and ocean as the backdrop. Beautiful. A must do is to go to the Halekulani Bakery. Wow! Such an amazing selection of pastry delights within. I highly recommend Halekulani for your next luxury holiday in Waikiki. You wouldn’t get any better elsewhere.

I've written a review like this for a 5 star spilt stay that we took in Costa Rica and TA people seemed like that, and so I thought I'd title our 9 night/10 day Hawaiian trip the same way for anyone interested in a comparison of three different five stars on Oahu and The Big Island for our 25th anniversary trip. We'd initially planned for 4 nights in Kauai at the new 1Hotel resort and 5 on the Big Island at Auberge's Mauna Lani Resort, but the weather in Kauai looked pretty bad two weeks out and so we pivoted to Oahu for four nights and the Big Island. I was able to book three nights at the Four Season's Ko Olina resort, but the first night was sold out for a corporate event. And so we decided to spend one night on the famed Waikiki Beach to say that we saw it, and based on reviews here and the five star rating, we booked one night at the Halekulani. We arrived around 2pm and were greeted warmly at the reception. No welcome drink or Lei, but, we did note on our reservation that it was our 25th anniversary and the resort did send us a lovely bottle of champagne after we returned from our the pool/beach experience as we immediately changed into our suits and headed down to the pool once our luggage arrived....which it did immediately. The room was nice, we were on the 10th floor with an ocean front view. And you do have a lovely view of the ocean, the surfers out on the reef, the entire pool/resort area. However, looking immediately to the left and we had a full view of the back end of the Sheraton I believe. And so, it just becomes apparent immediately how over developed Waikiki Beach is. We headed down to the pool and this is where the five star service really slipped, as in...no service. We went to the towel attendant and he kindly set us up in the chairs/table area we pointed to. We mentioned we'd like to order a drink and some food. A pool server came over and handed us a menu and as we just began to peruse it, said, "Are you going to need some time." Well, yes....as he'd just handed it to us 3 seconds ago. So he said he's be back in a couple of minutes. And here's where it went sideways. After about ten minutes, I saw him sit down with guests and begin to chat. I totally get that. We've made friends with servers at resorts over the years and chat with them, especially if we've been there a few days or more. But he just didn't get up....and so I went back to the pool attendant and asked if someone could come over so we could order. He had an earpiece on and thought he could let someone know. But nope, another 20+ minutes went by, and we gave up....decided to try the beach. Also, another note, the loungers and chairs at the pool, and on our balcony were what you'd find at Home Depot....no cushions. Not horrible or anything, but not what you'd expect at a five star resort. We saw a sign that said, "no beach access" on a gate that appeared to lead to the beach, so we headed back out to the lobby where an employee told us to head out front and go to the left or right and there were "paths" that led to the beach. Ok, we thought...a little weird, but we did this and walked down a path that was clearly where the employees of the resorts go to smoke/vape on break, and also where some sketch homeless people hang out. Two of these homeless gentleman seemed to lock on us (we had tourists written all over us), got up from the chairs they were sitting in and got right behind us. I pulled on my husband's backpack to alert him, and allowed them to pass us, and they kept glancing behind at us. We did make it to the beach, but this part of the famed Waikiki Beach wasn't much of a beach. The water was washing right up to the building on the right, and in front of the Halekulani, there's barely a beach, no chairs, no towel service. And we knew if we'd set our backpack down to take a dip, it would have been gone in a second. So....that was that. We headed back to hotel only to find out that our room key would provide access to another gate to the beach that we didn't see. But, it didn't matter. I would not have felt safe leaving my belongings at the beach, *or* even at the pool as people walk in off the street to go to restaurants....etc. Still hungry and thirsty, we headed to the bar and realized that only from stool level can you even see the ocean. You can't see the ocean when laying on a lounger or sitting at the pool....it's all obstructed by hedges. They're nice hedges, but they do block the view of the ocean. We enjoyed a couple of drinks and a flat bread at the pool. When we arrived back at our room we realized we had received a bottle of champagne, and that was very kind of the hotel to send. We had reservations for House Without a Key for dinner, but realized we'd be close to the music but decided to stay in and enjoy room service on our balcony. From there we could actually hear the music just fine and had a nice view of the ocean. Room service was good and the server was lovely. In the morning we decided to skip breakfast at Orchids and do same as the night before and enjoyed a lovely breakfast on the balcony. Again, we had a lovely server. Check out was efficient, right from the TV in our room and we departed around 9am with a guide who took us on a tour of Oahu and over to Pearl Harbor before drop-off at the Four Season's Ko Olina around 2pm. I wish there was a 3.5 star option for this place as it's not quite a 3, but also not a 4. Nearly everyone we encountered was lovely and except for the pool service server, it was all good. However, the location on the beach, the slightly dicey feel when it came to feeling safe at the pool/beach area would steer us away from the Halekulani in the future. I did fill out a survey and the manager immediately emailed me back saying that he would communicate our concerns to those who needed to know. I really, really do not like to diss on any resort/restaurant, but I do feel like many of us count on these reviews to book travel. And so I wanted to be honest in this review. And I should also note that I didn't complain to management while we were there. They'd already sent us a bottle of champagne for our anniversary and we knew we were only there for one night. If we'd had a multiple night stay, I would have for sure let them know. And now...on to the Four Seasons Ko Olina where we spent three nights, for anyone who'd like to follow along. I'll post that under their name.

Best hotel experience we’ve had in years! This is a superb facility in a wonderful beachside location. Within easy walking distance of Waikiki restaurants and shopping. Our ocean view room was small but very well-appointed with large lanai . LaMer is a must-try restaurant with impeccable service, elegant atmosphere, and expansive views. Lewers Lounge is a great place for after-dinner drinks with jazz and a very comfortable old-school ambiance. If you are lucky, Maggie and Dean will be performing - Maggie on the piano and vocals, Dean playing bass. We aren’t wealthy, so we had to save-up for this experience, but it was well worth it.

Just returned from the amazing Halekulani. This visit was different as I was there to scatter my late husband's ashes, per his request. We had stayed at Halekulani quite a few times previously. When I arrived there were roses and a lovely note in my room, they provided me with rose petals (a lot) for the ash scattering and did many other amazing things to make my stay wonderful. The room was beautiful and, per my request, was the room my husband and I stayed in last year. This was the BEST hotel stay I have ever had. A fabulous place with an incredible staff and a lot of ALOHA!

AMAZING HOTEL. i am 80+ years, have traveled world wide for 50 years, and been fortunate to have stayed at many of the best hotels in the world. Halekulani is a wonder, from the smiling helpful persons when you arrive, to the front desk, check in and to a beautiful room--mine overlooked the ocean surf, Diamond Head and a pool with thousands of shining white tiles forming an underwater orchid. Top Management here has trained the entire staff with professional courtesy and competence. There are three restaurants and a great bakery open at 6 am. All are beautiful. My favorite was the House with No Key, named after a Charlie Chan novel and film. However, the Orchid was the best, for breakfast and dinner. Service is impeccable, no waiting for Juice, coffee, refills or anything else. Housekeeping-Superb. The long trip was mitigated by a Delta non stop from Atlanta ( 9 hours ). If you want a magical, beautiful, friendly, luxurious hotel. THIS IS IT. You not only have Honolulu, Waikiki but you can drive through the pineapple groves up to the beautiful north shore, including watching the 30 foot waves at the Banzai Pipeline. Traveler from Vero Beach, Florida.

Fantastic hotel, albeit way too expensive. They had so many great little touches, from the turndown service, the little quotes left in our room, the way they arranged our toiletries in the bathroom, the lens cleaning kit and case they left in our room once they knew we wore glasses, etc…,When our room was ready, we were escorted to the elevators and given a complete rundown of where everything was in the hotel. By the pool, we were escorted to the most luxurious chairs I ever laid my butt on. Expect to pay 22.00 for a mixed drink, plus tip. Overall… great experience!!
