We stayed at the Alohilani in 2019 and enjoyed it, so we decided to stay here again in March 2023. We were spending the second half of our O'ahu trip at a high-end resort, so we wanted somewhere a little more budget-friendly in Waikiki. The location is directly across from Kuhio beach. Although it's across the street, it's only a few steps and a higher floor will make you feel like you're closer to the water. While not the fault of the resort, this part of the Waikiki strip is very busy and loud 24/7. Even at night with our door closed, we could hear the street below. There is a large population of homeless people in this area, however, we never felt unsafe. The service was friendly from when check in to check out. We we not asked if we didn't assistance with our bags when we arrived, but we only had carry on, so we were fine. But the service at the front desk made up for it. Everyone we encountered throughout our stay was friendly. The pool is great! The drink service at the pool was great and the mai tais were delicious. We loved the treats being handed out around the pool by Jones. Fun fact - we originally met Jones at the adults only pool while staying at the Sheraton Waikiki back in 2015! The downside to the pool is the amount of kids. The chill, infinity style of the pool seems more appropriate for an adults only setting and wasn't as enjoyable with kids screaming and running around. It also gets quite busy on the weekend and can be difficult to find somewhere to sit. The entrance to the pool is strange, you walk into the stairwell to get there and doesn't feel like you're about to enter a beautiful pool area. The rooms are okay. They are starting to look tired, and are small in size. The bathrooms are the worst part of the room as they are very, very small and not totally renovated. We originally booked an ocean view king, but ended up upgrading after one night to the oceanfront king instead. While the original room did have a view of the ocean, it was only if you lean on the lanai and the adjacent buildings made the room very dark. The view from the second room was much better, but the bathroom was worse. The original room had a renovated standalone shower, whereas the second room had a tub/shower that was clearly from before the hotel was the Alohilani. The hallways are also starting to look pretty worn down and the elevators are incredibly slow. Be prepared to share the elevator with at least 4 other people each time. There are shops in the lobby of the hotel. I purchased some jewelry at Kolohe and had a great experience, and you can't go wrong with an ABC store on-site. There's a coffee shop next door to the hotel, the wait times are long, but the coffee is great. There is no room service at this resort. Housekeeping is every other day. Because we changed rooms after our first night, we only received housekeeping once and it was the very basic service you could expect. We enjoyed our stay, but feel that we are no longer the target demographic for this hotel. However, I would recommend for the pool and view.

Hotel's Favourite
The location of the 'Alohilani was absolutely stunning, perfect, and easy for beach access, shopping, and dining. I loved we were able to take advantage of the partnership with Beach Candy so we could have complimentary rentals of things like coolers and floats for the beach. There were a few too many kids in the pool and hot tub, and it would have been a better experience if there were adult-only hours for the hot tub after 7pm. It was hard to enjoy Champagne and a romantic experience with little kids jumping in and screaming. The front desk was very nice and accommodating, and went out of their way with recommendations from everything as off-resort breakfast and nail salons. I was never able to get the concierge on the phone, but there was a texting service that was helpful. The rooms were fantastic- clean, with comfy cozy bedding and lovely Japanese-style toilet/bidets. We stayed for three nights and it was a way better experience than our previous five days at airbnb's. Absolutely lovely.

One of the best hotels I have stayed in. Food is great and amenities are top notch! For couples, family, friends, business, or even solo I will recommend all day, everyday. It is also very close to the beach if the pool is not enough for you.

We felt like we were at the White Lotus, but w/o the murder & drama! We couldn't have been more pleased w/ our week's stay. The staff was amazing, especially at the Longboard on-site restaurant. Attention to detail in service made us feel totally pampered. Location is perfect w/ access to the best of Waikiki: beach; shopping; zoo; aquarium, etc. Alohilani gave us a thoroughly Hawaiian experience in all of the best ways.

The lobby and fitness room are nice. The rooms, at best, are average. The bathroom vanity is open to the room instead of part of the enclosed bathroom. Maid service is only every other day. If you shower daily, piles of towels remain in the room. Throughout our stay, there was a foul, sewage smell in the elevator area of the lobby.

Great food, staff and location. Surf right across the street. Or grab musubi care or poke a block away. The Infiniti pool is great. Loved grabbing dinner with live music at the Swell bar by the pool. So easy to go out after. Will come back def.

We had great expectations of the resort. However, our arrival experience at check-in was really bad, with super rude service. We were charged $100 extra without explaining the reason, while we had our confirmation email with the total amount translated into our local language. We also got extra charge for leaving the car on the valet (on top of tips of course). The employee at the check-in was not in the mood to assist us and welcome us in Oahu, so we had to talk with the manager (we asked twice to talk with her as we experienced another issue at the hotel). I would not recommend it. People in Hawaii are amazing, and they want to help, apart from the employees of this resort.

This hotel was booked through WestJet vacations. The problems started from check in. They actually started at pickup at the airport, but I’ll deal with WJ for that. We had to wait over 15 minutes just to get checked in, as there wasn’t enough staff on at the front desk, and we arrived at 8pm. You ALWAYS had to wait at the front desk as they usually only had 2 people on, and good luck trying to talk to a manager, we never saw one the whole week! Upon arrival we were informed of the $48.00 USD daily resort fee that had to be paid up front, plus all the taxes that went with it came out to a whopping extra $400.00+ USD charge with absolutely no explanation as to what it covered or if we received anything for that. Then we were informed as well of a $300.00 USD “incidental hold” onto your room! To then go through the rest of the week and see how old and run down this hotel has become, I see no reason why this hotel has a 4 rating or why it’s #44 out of 100 in Honolulu. The rugs throughout the hotel are old, threadbare and look disgusting. The balconies are rusting, old and desperately need painting. The bathrooms need a desperate update, as do the rooms. The sink in the bathroom never drained properly, the tub plug wouldn’t go down all the way, so if you wanted a bath, you had to use a face cloth to jam it in the drain to stop the water. The mattress on the 2 queen beds were lumpy, and both had a hollow where people had been sitting on the edges. All the plugins are sideways and almost totally inaccessible due to furniture in the way. The in-room fridge either froze everything, or was too warm…no in between. The chairs on the balcony were like rocks, and the “wonderful” side table was a chunk of wood they painted white! There were spider webs in the corners where the walls met the ceiling throughout the room. The worst thing about the rooms was the glass in the windows/sliding glass doors…they were all single paned, so you heard absolutely everything! It was like sitting outside 24/7! The food/beverages at poolside are very expensive and just blah! We booked a spot for the buffet as the website said it was open, yet it wasn’t and it had to be booked online at Open Table instead of at the hotel or restaurants itself. All the prices at the restaurants at this hotel were just ridiculously expensive, plus they have little or no Gluten Free options! After day 3 we found out we had 3 credits daily to get chairs, umbrellas etc. for the beach, however the items you signed out had to be returned each day by 5pm, and the place to get them was over 2 city blocks away! I have travelled extensively over the past 25 years, all over the US, Canada and Europe, including other Hawaiian islands, this was one of the worst experience ever! For the amount of money we paid to stay here for a week, I was expecting a hell of a better experience than the one we had. The pro’s of this place was its location to the beach, the view, the heated toilet seat! 😁 The saver for us was the great priced restaurants around the hotel. The other great thing was the amazing housekeeping staff, they really did an amazing job! Unfortunately, overall, I was sorely disappointed and I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, and definitely would not go back.

We had an incredible stay at Alohilani Waikiki resort. The entire staff was so friendly and accommodating, especially Micah in the longboard lounge and Jones at the towel bar at the pool. We also loved the live music each night at the pool. 10/10 recommend staying here!
