The Sheraton Princess Kaiulani garners appreciation for its prime location near beaches and shops, as well as its cleanliness and range of amenities, including a pool and live entertainment. However, guests have noted the rooms could benefit from an update and some find the noise from nearby activities disruptive.
While the service receives high marks for its friendliness and attentiveness, opinions are mixed regarding the hotel's overall value, with some reviewers mentioning high costs for extras and a need for improved amenities.

Detailed Reviews
Visited Hawaii to celebrate my mother’s 60th birthday/ early retirement. Check in was fast and easy. They provide you with a handheld wifi device that basically gives you access to free wifi all over the downtown strip. Check in staff had arranged to surprise my mother with sweets and a bottle of champagne the day of her birthday. Parking was $25 US a day, which you paid at the end once you’ve checked out of the hotel.
Beautifully located on the Waikiki strip. Everything was within walking distance (beach, malls, restaurants). It was very busy with lots of tourists during the day and was safe to walk alone at night.
Room- we stayed in a city view double room. The furniture seemed a little dated but the room itself was very clean. Bathroom was simple, a little small but clean. The balcony over looked the strip with a partial view of the ocean.
Pool was a little small and would be quite busy with lots of families/little kids, very limited seating/lounge chairs were available. The pool closed a little earlier than I had hoped for, around 6pm. There’s a cocktail bar/restaurant by the pool. They had drink specials for the day and would provide seaweed dusted popcorn with each drink purchase.
Overall the hotel itself was nothing special. But I would definitely recommend and come back and visit again solely based on the hotel’s location.

We spent 2 nights here, one of which was Halloween, before we boarded NCL/POA cruise from Honolulu port. We were located in the Tower. The room view, the cleanliness and comfort were all very good. I'd rate this hotel average, as I think most, if not all of them, are woefully overpriced. This stay was part of an airfare/hotel package our agent booked through Apple. The location of this hotel was very good - we were able to see the Halloween revelers within a short walking distance from hotel, on Kalakaua Ave. The location is also very good for walking to take in the various sights. The historic Moana Hotel, built in the 19th Century, was nearby and we had a view of this spectacular Hotel from our balcony. The outside pool area had a bar and cafe service area that was very nice. One complaint I had was that we spent a long time waiting to get on elevators at certain times. Even though I rate this as average, I don't really have negative things to say about our specific room or the hotel itself. Again, I think the tourist hotels are NOT value priced. Also, I thought a continental breakfast would have been a nice addition.

Alright, so sorry but this one might be pretty long and winded-- but hopefully it's worth it for those of you are looking at where to stay in Waikiki!
For starters when we arrived there were some problems with the check in process. This is was not the staffs fault what so ever though! My card was being declined because of the purchase being too great, and there wasn't much I could do because my bank was already closed at this point (I live in SC, it was like Midnight there by the time we arrived for check in). I have major anxiety and after the 15 hour flight day, I was exhausted and an a panic attack was bound to happen at the smallest inconvenience. The staff there was extremely patient with me through my breathing exercises and though I felt like the worst kind of guest to have they never once treated me as such (and I know just how "fun" it is to work with a crying customer lol).
Once all of that was done and we were finally checked in the room itself was very nice! It was a pretty standard hotel room. Two Queen beds, mini fridge, bathroom ect. But the VIEW was amazing! From our room we would see both the Diamond Head AND Waikiki Beach! Since our clocks were way off we were awake to see the sunrise almost every single day we were there. It was honestly breathtaking.
Every day the beds were made, towels replaced, and some goodies left of us on the counter. The house keepers even went as far as to fold some of the cloths we'd left laying around! A bit unusual, but appreciated none the less as I'd never had a place fold our clothes before!
We got breakfast vouchers with our room for each morning. The breakfast buffet was a favorite of ours! Each morning we'd go down and be seated with a fresh cup of coffee ready for us. There was just something really nice about sitting in the fresh air with a nice cup of joe to start the day. The buffet had a wide variety of fruits, soups (Yes, SOUP), rice, fish, eggs, bacon, sausage, cereal, juice bar, and even an omelet and waffle OR pancake station. Really it had all the works.
The Splash Bar was a good place to relax after our days. The drinks they served were *chefs kiss* (this is internet slang for amazing). The Lava Flow was my go to. It was basically just a sugar slushie with some coconut rum in it but dang it was good. They also served food at the Splash Bar too, my favorite of which was the coconut shrimp. I must have had that shrimp at least 4 times while we were staying there. It was so tasty it stopped me from wanting to to other restaurants!
Our check out was at 10am but we weren't going to be picked up to leave the island until around 3pm. The front desk let us check our bags for free so we didn't have to carry them around. Since we didn't have our bags we were able to roam the shopping centers and beach for a while longer before saying goodbye. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone coming to the island for the first time.

I am currently staying at the princess kaiulani, and I am so disappointed! We are a family of 6, we have 2 rooms with 2 double beds each room. The beds are so small that our feet stick out of the bed and not comfortable to sleep in. None of us have had a decent night sleep since we got here. From day 1, we got here at 9.30 asked for early check in and got told to go sleep on a banana chair by the pool, till the rooms were ready. I asked if they could please contact me when our rooms are ready as my children were asleep on the banana chairs. We hadn't slept for over 30 hrs as we had an evening flight from australia and had been awake since the day before. They said they could not guarentee it would be ready before 3.00. However I kept going back to fromt desk and at 1.45 1 room was ready. The other not until just after 3. Since then we get woken up most mornings cause housekeeping want to clean our rooms. Why not clean the rooms that want early check in, I don't understand? The toilet has been blocked, they took the shower screen and didn't return it, we had to ask for it back. We have plastic glasses in our bathroom no soaps ect on arrival, the coffee cups are paper cups, what happened to glass? I plugged in the hotel hairdryer and smoke was coming out it's so old, it went red but there was no air coming out. I had to take it outside. What happen to 3.5 star and customer service. I did go down to concierge and ask for queen beds, apparently this hotel only have double or king. $80 extra per room per night for a rollaway. After paying a fortune to stay here and resort fees, I am questioning for what? I don't see anything special about the "resort" Nothing is included for the bonvoy marriott members, no breakfast, only a discounted price which is still $23.00 from $28.us dollar $35 Aud, due to the current exchange. I did ask what is the point of being a member when i joined in Fiji 3 years ago and they said breakfast included for adults children 12 yrs under pay child prices. I stayed at the Fiji resort and they were amazing. I have stayed at the sheraton on the park in Sydney a gift to my husband, from friends for his 50th birthday. They were both fantastic service and inclusions, here in waikiki however, I'm finding that their member get no benifits. I would have booked else where had i read the reviews. They take advantage of being under the sheraton umbrella, but they don't seem to have the quality the sheraton is known for. We are here till Tuesday morning, the rest of our trip has been amazing, very expensive for food and activities, but a beautiful place. Friendly people everywhere.

Aloha srdaga6, Thank you for taking the time out of your vacation to provide your valuable feedback. It is our priority to deliver a high standard of service to ensure our guest enjoy the stay. It seems we have not met your expectations at this point in your vacation. Since you are still in-house here at the hotel, I would encourage you to speak with a manager in regards to the issues your are experiencing so we may still have the opportunity to turn your accommodations around to a better stay. I will pass on your comments to the appropriate hotel teams so we can use your feedback as a teachable moment to prevent these issues from happening in the future. Once again, thank you for taking the time to let us know about your current stay and I hope one of our managers will be able to speak with you while you're still here. I spent the last week of January at the "PK" as it is commonly known. It was my 5th or 6th stay there and it was excellent as always.
Perhaps due to my Marriott Bonvoy silver elite status, even though silver is not a high tier, I was upgraded to a "Premier Oceanview King" room in the Ainahau Tower, which had been renovated and had a great lanai with an absolutely stunning view of the ocean. You could sit on the lanai and watch surfers, catamarans and outrigger canoes all day.
I find the service at the Princess Kailuani is always exemplary. From the General Manager to the front desk to the room attendants and breakfast buffet staff, they are all hospitality professionals, many of who have worked there for decades, and they provide a friendly and welcoming environment and courteous service.
The hotel has a lot of history and has a nice Hawaiian vibe. I know some reviews are not great because of the age of the hotel, and I think the hotel acknowledges that it can be a challenge to keep everything up to standards when they are anticipating closing the hotel in a couple of years for a full makeover.... but they certainly try.
Other notes:
-The gym is decent and well used and has a nice outlook over the pool.
-You get 15% off food bills with Bonvoy membership (any level)
Overall, Hawaii hotels are expensive and I find this one to be great value. It's right in the heart of Waikiki and although it's not on the beach, on average you save at least $100US per night compared to even the least expensive beachfront hotel. And the pool desk will lend you beach chairs as well as towels for when you head across to the beach, and they bring bottled water to a designated spot on the beach three times a day.
I would recommend the place for sure.

After reading the reviews here, I had my expectation level at knowing you get what you pay for. My expectations were exceeded and I really enjoyed my stay here. Parking was easy. The pool area is relaxed and beautiful. I appreciated having waitstaff at the pool. There are chairs and towels available for the beach. Staff also come a few times a day to the beach with bottled waters and fruit. The breakfast buffet food was great and also had a nice ambiance along with the Splash Bar. Both are fairly priced for Waikiki. I would definitely return. This was in a prime location just across the street from the beach but was much more affordable than the beachfront hotels. It was a great value with location and some typical resort amenities, but a little easier on the budget.

We had a great time in Oahu, and this hotel is in the heart of Waikiki, and was extremely convenient in several ways. It is right behind the much more expensive Moana Surfrider, which we considered. Ultimately, we decided against it to save a grand, and went with the Princess Kaiulani, and I’m glad we did. When we travel, we don’t wind up at the hotel for large periods of time. We aren’t in need of oceanfront views, or lots of amenities for this reason. We are just not there to enjoy them or use them, so why spend money on them?
True to form, we basically just slept there, and used the pool to kill time between activities and reserved dinners. We did pay a little extra for a pool view (other reviewers reported it was quieter on this side), but our room had a small view of the ocean, which was an unexpected but welcomed treat!
The room was spacious, with comfy beds. That could be because we spent hours hiking or sitting in the sun, or both, so we crashed every night. They gave us two bottles of water every day, and coffee. They also supply shampoo/conditioner/soap and lotion. There is a fridge in the room, but no microwave.
You get pool/beach towels. You are given pool cards at the beginning of the stay, which you give for fresh towels. You can exchange dirty towels for fresh ones, or get your cards back. It’s a nice, easy system.
One thing to note, which I wish I had known ahead of time, or told at check in, but didn’t know until like our 4th day because I overheard another guest asking for one, is that if you are a Marriot/Bonvoy member (which I am) you can rent a beach chair for free the entirety of your stay! If you aren’t a member, then I think it’s a nominal charge.
There is an ABC store right in front of the main entrance, and then another near the pool entrance, which is incredibly convenient to stock up on drinks/sunscreen/food… just about anything you need. The ABC stores here are much fancier than the ABC stores where I’m from.
Lots of dining options near the hotel, and beach access will literally take you 5 minutes from the time you leave your room. So easy.
The only real con here, and it’s not the hotel’s fault, is that on some nights street performers set up shop in front of the ABC store near the pool. It can get pretty loud, but not a real issue since we were pretty exhausted by the end of the night. To be fair though, due to jet lag, for the first couple of nights we went to bed at like 9pm, so it’s not an entirely obscene hour to be playing music. Couldn’t tell you what time they stopped playing cause we were out like lights.
Would absolutely stay here again. We had a great stay.

I really don’t know where to
Start.
Just spent 40 nights at this hotel due to work commitment and really wished we booked elsewhere.
Checked in on a Saturday night, titanium bonvoy member, they do not recognise your membership at all. It’s the only bonvoy hotel in the world that they don’t do this, shocked was an understatement.
No points or breakfast vouchers offered at check in, they were more concerned about the resort fee which is an absolute joke.
Parking $42 a night and your lucky if you’d find a space as the westin resort over the road uses most of the spaces.
The whole management team from hotel manager, general manager to deputy managers are an absolute disgrace and all need to go on a customer service training, all they are interested in is MONEY.
Half of the check in desk staff are absolutely useless and don’t have a clue what they are doing. Only a handful could answer questions rather than going off to the useless management team to ask them.
The bell desk don’t have a clue what’s going on, don’t want too help anyone.
The breakfast is awful, same choices for the whole stay, no healthy options at all. Very overpriced.
Rooms are very old and dated, needs updating asap and a paint, think the hotel hasn’t been touched since the 70s.
Rooms only cleaned when requested
The only positives were the staff at the splash bar were all excellent, the cleaners for the rooms were very helpful and polite,
Apart from the good Location book
Elsewhere because you will be disappointed.
I expect the usual managers response we will give the feedback to the team, it’s not the team that need the feedback it’s the management. I will be in contact with bonvoy also as this needs removing from there list as it’s shocking for anyone never mind members.

We just recently stayed there for a week. The hotel is located across the street from the ocean but have rooms that are considered to be ocean view if you lean over the side of the deck. The rooms are fairly small but I didn't come to Hawaii to sit in a hotel room either. Our party was a little concerned when we first got there because we found hairs in the shower and toe nail clippings on the floor so we were concerned about the cleanliness of our rooms. The front desk had them re-cleaned and so we felt better about that.
Due to covid the hotel had closed the bar and any place to eat inside of the hotel. they did have a little stand up beside the pool where you could get a few pastries at breakfast but that was about it.
I have no complaints about the staff they were very friendly and accommodating.
We had the pleasure of meeting the general manager of this hotel. he was a very nice gentleman and went out of his way to make us feel welcome and even took us across the street to tour his other hotel which in hindsight 20/20 I wish we would have stayed..
All in all it wasn't that bad and it is in the heart of the Waikiki Beach area and just a short walk from all the restaurants and shops so if the price is right I wouldn't pass it over.

Aloha!!! What can I say! We booked a 5 night stay in the Skyline Partial Ocean Dbl, Guest room Ainahau Tower. We arrived a little after 9. Check in/Check Out was a breeze and the staff was amazing. The hotel is a bit older but very clean. The room was also very clean and housekeeping did an AMAZING job of refreshing our room and keeping us stocked with water. Like clockwork we would leave out in the morning and by the time we made it back for an afternoon refresh our room had been cleaned. (During the time of our visit, you had to request for daily housekeeping services.) So glad we did. The beds and pillows were sooooo comfortable. Some days I wanted to just lie there all day. Lots of amenities in the room except a microwave. Water pressure in the shower was good and the water was hot. I liked that there was a table and 2 chairs out on the little patio area. The elevators were a bit slow. I think maybe two out of the four elevators were working consistently. This hotel is right across from the beach and really close to the trolley stop. It's also centrally located to a lot of good restaurants, bars and shops. Make sure you hang onto your towel card that's used to check out a towel for the beach or pool as it's noted you will be charged if not returned. This hotel is on one of the main roads so you are likely to hear traffic noise and nightly entertainment which didn't bother us too much. All in all this hotel is in a great location, reasonably priced compared to other hotels in the area, clean, and staffed with some amazing staff members. I cannot wait to come back and visit. Mahalo for an amazing experience.

I stayed in remodeled room beginning of May 2024. The bathrooms are remodeled, ie. new paint and shower curtains. I have never stayed prior so I can't say if shower, toilet, counters are new or not but they were in great condition.
There are ramps from the driveway entrance and all guest rooms are accessible by elevator.
You should check with the hotel if they have accessible bathrooms though as our shower was over the bathtub.
No but there was plenty of room on the beach at The Moana Surfrider which is right across the street. It is also a Marriott Hotel and you can charge food, drinks, etc to your room. You can rent beach chairs by the day or week from the resort. We saw lots of folks with private umbrellas but there weren't any rentals that we noticed.
Coffee machine but no microwave or jug
