Very sneaky, very smart thieves and scammers. When you move out, they will look for every small piece of dirt and spot they can possibly find, then tell you it just so happens to equal your security deposit. This is how they steal people's money. Apartments are not supposed to be in brand new condition when you leave. It's only expected to be undamaged. I've been renting apartments for 15-20 years, and this has never happened before. Only in Hawaii baby 👍

We’ve stayed here for a week, and the owner was very rude and blunt, asked him to changed our towels after 3-4 days of using the same one as they didn’t supply anymore which we left at the front for someone to collect which were never collected, bins started to get full and they didn’t supply any information on what to do when they do get full, seeming as there isn’t any cleaners that come in the room and do it for you, I found it ridiculous how we also asked for toilet paper and he was on the phone talking, saying he would bring it up in half an hour when we didn’t have any at the time and we needed to go to the toilet, I highly do NOT recommend this place, yes it’s a good location and we were happy to get our own supplies but it’s common courtesy for someone who is paying good money for them to do what they are required to do in a hotel. You’d be better off paying a little extra and paying for a hotel that has decent service.

Beach is a couple blocks away, great restaurants nearby. Older building but well maintained. Short walk across the bridge to Ala Moana Shopping Center. Biki bike rental nearby. ABC 1/2 block. Grocery store 1 block.

Built in 1971, apartments are now individually owned and we stayed in 702 via airbnb. Affordable compared to everything else. Clean and neat, but very limited on space. Convenient location and near to most things.

The Big Surf is an older building, but it makes up for it with the view. On the top floor you have a great view of the beach and ocean. Old style slat windows were great touch to keeping it close to what it was life when it was new. The furniture is on the sparse side. The staff was easily by phone and responded to every need. For a furnished rental it was great. Could have used more towels and an extra set of sheets. The kitchen had all new or almost new appliances. Good place to come home to after work.

My brother-in-law booked this condo for its central location and affordable price. Unfortunately those are the only pros to renting from this building. The building itself is very old and run down and our suite was in a similarly poor condition. My room had some sketchy dried brown stain on it that looked like either dried food or feces. Because of this, we made the decision to go to the local Walmart to buy new sheets. The final straw was when we found a dead bug in the pillow as we were changing the pillow cases. I will say though, that the owner was quick to answer our panicked phone call and graciously gave us a full refund. However, if you want to avoid the hassle of having to find a hotel last minute like we did, I suggest you stay anywhere else but here. So gross!

These condos are individually owned and rented out. Overall the building is very poorly maintained. Our unit, 1105, was just OK. On the positive side, there were plenty of towels....er, that's about it! The unit was not clean, the kitchen was lacking in resources, eg only two glasses, the shower is awful (despite being recently renovated) and the whole place is in desperate need of being painted. Sadly I cannot recommend this unit.

I stayed at the Big Surf Hotel ,its a nice clean hotel ,quiet and has really nice guests ,it is a affordable hotel in a HIGH END neighborhood with no homeless t speak of in the area like near the expensive hotels.I felt safe walking around at night It has many nice restaurants in the area and you can walk to Wal Mart ,the Ala Moana Center, and into Waikiki in minutes The rates are very reasonable and it is not a cookie cutter hotel ,the i bedroom suites for 2k a month is the best price in town for snowbirds and the weekly and daily rate are the best. We go out early and come home late . It nice stay their if your looking for the best deal in a safe environment in Waikiki

i stayed there for about a year and it was bad experience. the stuff is almost never in the office to answer complains and the charge an arm and a leg for cheap motel. plus when i was moving out they didn't refund me full deposit and made an excuse that i painted the wall. the wall had a big hole before i even moved in and the dust in ventilation system looked horrible like nobody ever cleaned it. so i don't recomend this place

We booked to stay in apartment #1401 in Oct 2012. From the moment we walked into the apartment we had problems. > No hot water >No kettle to BOIL hot water for the dishes >Leaking toilet in bathroom >Only a few light globes in the apartment that worked >Ants in the bedroom and bathroom >only two cereal bowls for 5 people and the rest of the crockery was old ,cracked and chipped >disgusting tea towels supplied that had to be pried open >exposed wires hanging out of skirting in main bedroom >dirty furniture >outdoor furniture too dirty to even sit on >tired ,thin towels >mattresses in the bedroom disgusting We contacted the owner almost straight away. She said she would send out the caretaker. He didn't even bother to come over but when she rang us back she said that he had sorted everything out...obviously not the case!! We told her this but she did not offer to sort anything out. 2 members of our party moved out as the thought of spending even one night there was unbearable . The 3 of us that were left stayed thinking that maybe the owner would come over the next day with clean tea towels, some spare bowls , apologetic and offering to fix the hot water system. NOT THE CASE. The next day the 3rd person moved out. My husband and I followed as by the 3rd day, still with no hot water we were desperate. We informed her that we were moving and that we would like a refund. She said she would only do this if she could rebook the room which was highly unlikely that this would happen at such short notice. So hence we all moved out to the hotel next door at greater expense to ourselves. This was in Oct 2012, it it now Jan 2013 and we have only been forwarded a portion of our bond. This woman is incouragable. She very rarely replies to my emails and when she does she blames us for using all the Hot Water and for leaving food on the benches. Which is ridiculous seeing as the ants were there on our arrival and there was never any hot water to start with. I hope that anyone out there thinking of booking this apartment reads this review first and saves themselves the holiday dramas that we had to go thru
