In a destination that’s famous for being popular, the Shoreline is comfortable in its own skin. The hotel — 135 rooms over 14 floors — has a scale absent from most Waikiki Resorts, and the 1970s design creates a contemporary feel. Accommodations are bright and well‑appointed.

Hotel's Favourite

I stayed at the Shoreline twice in 2022 for a total of 15 nights and couldn't recommend it more highly.

The location is fantastic. Right off the main streets of Waikiki so there is peace and quiet, but it is just a few minutes walk to my favorite restaurants, stores, and the main Waikiki beach.

The amenities are thoughtful, with a Sodastream filtered water station that I utilized heavily, a rooftop pool, free snacks and Dole whip upon checkin, and daily specials like yoga, cotton candy, and popcorn.

The staff are all friendly and helpful, and room service did a great job daily. Justin at the front desk made sure I had a great stay.

The hotel is vibrant and the vibe is friendly. The value is also great for Waikiki. I've stayed in numerous hotels and Airbnbs in the area and from now on will continue to stay at the Shoreline Waikiki.

This little hotel, just one block from the beach, features small but upbeat rooms, with comfortable beds. What you get is pretty basic, a mini-fridge but no microwave, two small bedside drawers rather than a full dresser, and the air conditioning doesn't go on high if that's what you like. But, the staff was lovely, I liked being able to open my sliding doors to a small balcony for fresh air, room was pretty quiet, I quickly got used to the bright decor and found it cheerful and overall it suited me just fine, especially since it was significantly less money than the other hotels recommended on trip advisor. Tips: I'd avoid rooms ending in 28 or 30 as they border the elevator shaft. If you are staying more than 4 nights there's a 5 nights for 4 deal.

Aloha Sarack, Mahalo for staying with us at Shoreline Hotel Waikiki. We like to say that Shoreline is everything you need, with less of what you don't. Microwaves aren’t placed within each room to optimize space and keep the counter-tops free of large appliances. If guests need a microwave at any point during their stay, we’re happy to bring one directly to their room at no additional charge! Shoreline's air conditioning is a "going green" initiative, so our room temperatures are auto-regulated to conserve electricity. This is coupled with our special keycards that activate/deactivate the A/C and lights when inserted or removed from the key slots. We're so glad that you found our bright and lively decor to your liking, staff friendly, and price worth the spend. Would like to add that if staying 2 or more nights, you automatically get a complimentary amenity tray full of local snacks. When booking longer stays, guests can receive great discounts via our Offers page. If traveling back to Hawaii, we'd love to have you back at Shoreline. We offer discounted rates for return visitors, so feel free to contact our front desk for more information. Mahalo & a hui hou (thank you and until we meet again), Julie Tabarejo Director of Experience & Events

This location has modernized in a fun and charming way. Funky lights with stuffed birds and modern furniture accent the lobby and take advantage of the older architecture. This, with the colors and lighting on the floors, makes this tiny structure much more exciting than its drab, smaller neighbors who sometimes charge more. The staff is very helpful, and, while our last minute reservation was initially rejected, the manager coming on duty quickly came to the rescue and made sure we had a room as well as took care of the breakfast vouchers we paid for. The rooms are wonderfully modern by Waikiki standards: still small by mainland perspectives but roomy by European sizes. The space was cean, comfortable, and had a bit of sass (the mini-fridge was labeled "it's Pau Hana somewhere"). They also provided refillable water pouches and a purifier to refill them. Overall, a great place to stay if you're ready to relax into Hawai'i vacation life with just a quick walk to the beach. Oh, and the restaurant next door is great for breakfast, and seems to have a constant line (use your jetlag for good, and get up early!).

First, the hotel is unusual: colorful, bright, roomy. Every room has a balcony and especially rooms in higher floors offer a great view towards the ocean! There are comp snacks in the room plus water, coffee & tea and fruit infused waters in the lobby all day round, beach towels are available, a pool on the rooftop, workshops are being offered and employees are all very friendly and helpful. Josh, the receptionist, was the pure delight and as repeat visitors we got an upgrade to a suite in the top floor. It's not inexpensive, but compared to many other hotels in Waikiki it's worth its money.

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Shoreline Hotel for one week. We would have left the first day and gone somewhere else but we paid in advance and Shoreline would only return 50% of our money so we stayed.

Everywhere we went in the hotel it was dirty including the bathrooms in the lobby, the elevators, the carpet in the halls, our room etc. The clean area was the lobby itself. The room itself was small for the price we paid. There was no microwave in the room. You get two free bottles of water everyday but the bottles are only about 4 ounces so they are very small. The walls are paper thin and you can hear everything happening in the other rooms on your floor. The pool is on the roof and you must use the stairs to get to the 15th floor from the 14th. If you have trouble climbing stairs you won't be able to use the dark murky pool that awaits you. Be careful when entering the hotel. The steps leading to the front door are broken and dangerous. Once again if you have trouble with stairs this could be a problem for you. If it has been raining be careful when you make it to the top of those stairs because the pavement at the top is very slippery. Even the cheapest hotels I have stayed in offer some kind of food in the morning but not the Shoreline. The hotel only provides coffee and they had no creamer the last two days. The staff at the front desk couldn't careless about our concerns. Only housekeeping workers seemed friendly at this hotel. The decor was old and nasty. I feel like this hotel got stuck in the 1970's.

Our stay at this hotel was absolutely horrible. You have been warned. Stay away from the Shoreline Hotel. I know I will never return.

Aloha JimiTheHobo, Shoreline Hotel Waikiki staff does their part to welcome and care for guests as if they were our own family. Each are trained to do their very best to address all concerns and issues in a timely and professional manner. Since your girlfriend booked the reservation through Airbnb, in order to receive a full refund, you must cancel through Airbnb at least 24 hours prior to the reservation, in accordance to their cancelation policy. Following check in, it is hotel policy that early checkouts are subject to a fee. Your girlfriend’s reservation was not paid in advance. A hold for the total amount for the reservation was placed on her credit card at check-in. This balance was then charged upon checkout, in addition to the infractions incurred on her reservation for smoking in the room. Shoreline Hotel Waikiki takes the upkeep of our property seriously. Our staff works hard every day to guarantee our lobby, rooms, and other facilities clean and comfortable for all guests. This includes daily housekeeping services, but also deep cleaning for guests who violate hotel policy and state law by smoking in rooms. This policy must be acknowledged and signed by all guests at check-in. At your request, our staff readily serviced your room daily to provide new towels, refresh of bath amenities, etc. to ensure the room continued to be to your liking. We understand that size matters, that’s why we offer different room categories. While one double bed may work for some, others prefer the size of our king rooms or junior suites instead. The Shoreline Hotel Waikiki’s rooms are comfortable and within the Waikiki industry standard of square footage. You are correct – microwaves aren’t placed within each room. This is done to optimize space and keep the countertops free of large appliances. If guests need a microwave at any point during their stay, we’re happy to bring one directly to their room at no additional charge. Most guests can’t hear noises from other rooms – some even say they can’t hear the elevator when others use it. However, we’ll double check the room you stayed in to make sure everything is good to go. Unfortunately, our walls weren’t built to block out loud disturbances from other guests. In these situations, we highly encourage guests to give the front desk a call so we can address the issue right away. Two free water bottles are offered to our guests daily. If you need a bit more, our refreshment station is available 24/7 in our lobby, which includes multiple flavors of fruit infused waters, hot water, tea, and coffee. Creamer is a popular add-in for the refreshment station and can be refilled by our staff. While we keep a close eye on it, there are times in the past that it would empty before we could restock. Since your visit, we’ve changed the type of creamer available which needs to be replenished less often. Unfortunately, we can’t control the weather. If we could give all our guests sunshine and blue skies year-round, we would! This sometimes means our rooftop is met with gray and cloudy weather, which gets reflected into the pool making the water seem less clear. Our pool filtration systems are closely monitored to maintain top-notch cleanliness of our picturesque pool setting. Although we wouldn’t recommend swimming in the rain (burr, it’s cold), the water is still safe and clean to do so if you must. Shoreline Hotel Waikiki is ADA accessible. For those who may find the stairs challenging, our staff is trained to operate a chair lift at our front entrance, just to the left of the stairway. Our entrance stairs feel the brunt of daily use from eager travelers and heavy suitcases. We admit they’re in need of some attention. Although our stairway isn’t as bright as the rest of the property, we can assure that it’s up to code. Our maintenance team continuously repairs steps as they are damaged. During rainy weather, we put large, yellow caution signs out for everyone’s safety. We’ve found our guests are off exploring well before the sunrise or trying one of the nearby breakfast restaurants in the early mornings. For breakfast, lunch, and dinner, Shoreline partners with Heavenly Island Lifestyle to provide healthy, organic dishes made with locally sourced ingredients at a 10% discount. When guests return from adventuring, snacks, drinks, or local food items are offered complimentary in the afternoon. Check out the calendar of events for more information. Regarding the furnishings, it’s unfortunate to hear that these weren’t your style. Our custom furniture and design came to life just two years ago during a complete renovation. Since then, we often have our décor cleaned to maintain their signature neon color and cleanliness standards. The key to keeping our items bright is regular upkeep and it’s been doing us well thus far. We live vibrantly at Shoreline Hotel Waikiki and our shine isn’t for everyone. We understand that this property isn’t what you were looking for and appreciate you giving us a try. Mahalo, Julie Tabarejo Director of Experience & Events

Had a five night stay. The lobby and room decor is funky and the complementary newspapers, water coolers and tea and coffee are welcomed and in room treats are super. Beds comfortable and hotel fairly quiet. Location is excellent. However, I do expect used cups and tumblers to be refreshed daily (never changed during our stay, and we used them daily). Bathrooms are careworn, with unappetizing gunk in the grout around toilet and along tub. Not sure how thoroughly bathrooms were cleaned because of residual water spots on fixtures. Shampoo and body was replenished but not hand or bath soap. Unpacking limited to what you can hang in the closet - no chest of drawers in the room. I do not like living out of my suitcase particularly for those many days. Our room location gave us daily access to the aroma from the restaurant next door. Never enough beach towels and beach chairs (the later are literally on their last legs) to go around.

This is an ideally located hotel - 5 mins walk to the beach and basically in the centre of everything within walking distance .Staff friendly and helpful .
Towels ,chairs and umberella's provided free for the beach .
Looking a little tired and in need of some updates in the rooms -i.e rusty door bolts on the patio door window that did not work ...... but again for the price and location in Hawaii cant really complain .
Does not provide a laudry service except dry cleaning BUT it has a connection with a hotel just around the corner that does have washing facilities for $2.50 (coins only) you can use
Would recommend

Aloha, Just stayed for number of days and am very impress on the value this hotel offers. This had to be one of the best value 3+ stars hotel closest to the beach offering superior services (this is from all department from the front desk to house cleaning). Rooms are clean and they will make up your room by placing sign asking for cleaning; It’s not a traditional hotel as decors are funky, but you are not staying in the hotel all the time as plenty to do while in Waikiki. Also if you book directly with the hotel they will waive the resort fees (not sure how for how long and many hotels in Waikiki offers this, at least $30 saving per night). Ask for a high floor room as if you are lucky your room faces the beach you can relax on balcony watching sunrise or sunset. If one is to find something to complaint, its lack for beach chair and umbrella for use or rental. But for the resort fee saving you can easily go to Walmart and buy a beach chair and umbrella for $100 (around $50 per chair and $50 for umbrella). A must is have breakfast at Heavenly at it’ highly rated and lineup to get in every morning. This will be my go to hotel from now on. Again to all management and their hotel team thank you as your overall hospitalities makes my trip enjoyable. Mahalo

The website sold me on the hotel, but it’s a lot smaller than what you see. The queen room was also quite small. It’s a nice place if you’re looking to stay at a budget friendly place in Waikiki, but don’t want to settle for something un-renovated. The hotel is beautiful but not necessarily my travel vibes, I also prefer showers versus tub, and an updated bathroom overall, with the tile looking quite old and dirty. The tv was also quite small. Unfortunately the ac only worked on highest setting, it was very loud, like a window unit volume, so not very comfortable trying to sleep with it on. The headboard was dusty, leaving me to think it was awhile before this room was cleaned. The day after I checked in, I noticed there was shaved hair on the bathroom vanity. I went down to the front desk on my way out to ask housekeeping know to clean this. The lady said that housekeeping was going to service my room during set hours, she never communicated to housekeeping to address it, seeing as they missed it already. When I came back, my room was serviced but they did not clean the hair, as I had asked the front desk to address. I already had no help from the beginning so I justes cleaned someone’s hair off myself. The faucet also drained very slowly, to the point that if you left it on it would’ve overflowed, didn’t report this because didn’t feel like front desk would have addressed it like last time. I really wanted to like this property, the renovations look great, but it’s almost like a high end hostel vibe. Also, I had unloading dock view, the alley way where unloading is done, so the noises weren’t stellar.

Aloha RobinInTheHood, Mahalo for taking the time to review your stay. Shoreline Hotel Waikiki is in the heart of it all, nearby Waikiki Beach, shopping, dining, etc. We went through a renovation nearly two years ago. Our rooms got quite a bit of love including new carpet, furnishings, paint, bath updates, etc. Is there something that was amiss in your room? Please let us know so we can ensure this was addressed since your visit. The early check-in option was discontinued mid-2019. As such, you should not have been charged for it during your stay and early check in wouldn't have been applicable for reservations beyond the expiration of the program. Early check-in is dependent on the available rooms, based on occupancy and guests who check-out. If the program was still running and we did not deliver, we sincerely apologize for the mishap. We understand the importance on delivering on our promises and how important it is to our guests and their travel schedules. Thank you again for the review. We hope that you will give us another try in the future. Mahalo & a hui hou (thank you and until we meet again), Julie Tabarejo Director of Experience & Events
